I was just listening to Mort's interview on Mike and Mike and he said the audio the Dolphins used wasn't network audio as they claimed it was. He contends sources have always claimed the Dolphins were using mic'd up defensive linemen to record Brady's audibles.....

no kidding. this is such bull****.

Every team in the league does this (tapes signals)
this is getting completely out of hand.

And the only possible excuse for BB doing this when Mangina knew, after he was warned, is because EVERYONE IS STILL DOING IT.

there is no other explanation for why he would continue to do this.

I hate to break it to Mort, but mic'd up defensive linemen IS network audio. Teams aren't allowed to have recording devices on the field...

Only if the network is miking them up.

I don't think he was referring to the segment "mic'd up", but rather the team putting microphones on the players to steal the calls.

Wasn't it reported that the Dolphins bought the audio, though? Is it possible that one team mic'd up their defensive linemen and then sold the audio to the Dolphins? Wouldn't that be even worse than what's happening now?

The difference here is that the Patriots are good and the Dolphins aren't. The more I see come out, the more I think this really is a league sting to get radios for defensive players. Or a Belichick plot.

More power to Saban. He knows what Belichick does. He didn't snitch. He got even. I can respect that.

To Saban I say : ROLL TIDE.

To Mangina I say : MEOW

They're not allowed to have video either. Who's saying the mics were league authorized, kind of the point you know.

Hence the second part of my post, Fixit.

"Teams aren't allowed to have recording devices on the field..."

Just like I find it laughable regarding the claims about the audio frequencies during the game. Those frequencies and the equipment are set up by LEAGUE officials. They aren't set up by the teams. And they are turned back into the league after each game. So that things like what the Jets claimed happen, can't happen.

Teams are also not allowed to have video playing equipment in the locker-room or in the coaches booth during the game.

This is what is so funny about the entire situation. Its nearly impossible to steal calls during a game with a video camera and have that information be usable for the same game.

I'm sure that Mort was implying that what the Phins did was OK.

The Phins didn't get punished last year. The Pats shouldn't get punished this year. A warning, yes.

I guess I'm not following what you're saying. The issue is whether or not the Dolphins were miked. You said that mic'd up is network audio, and that recording devices aren't allowed on the field.

So are you saying that the Dolphins miking their own players is impossible?

That's the point........ Sabin STOLE audio by miking his own defensive players (which there is no rule against) and recording audibles. He did not use bootleg Network sound. He made his own.

Same thing that the Patriots just did, except one difference, they've been specifically told not to do it. That is an league infraction and it will be punished.

BB is guilty of hubris possibly, but of cheating no

Violated league policy.......... Cheating, might be a little strong at this point.

Stealing signs isn't cheating to the NFL. How tough is this to understand?

Assuming this is true, it makes me question why the Patriots would do this during the Green Bay game last year. Did they plan on playing GB in the Superbowl?

It goes far beyond that. If the NFL had merely said they couldn't go after the Phins without proof, and then they threw the book at the Patriots, I would have been fine with that.

Instead, the NFL came out and expressly said that it was perfectly legal to steal the signals off that Phins tape and then employ it in a game.

This has been my position all along, although i suspect BB has something else in mind and very definitely knew this was a possibility.

Thanks for the short post. Go rest your brain. I'm sure it's tired from all the thinking you've been doing.

Don't you get it. BB taught Saban how to cheat back in the day. Figured I'd get it out there before a national "columnist" does.

Pete Sheppard just said something to the affect of "Zach Thomas now says he knew all of Brady's audibles last season" on WEEI.

    More From Mort:

David (Miami): Why is there such a big commotion now over the Pats when Zach Thomas practically openly admitted that the Dolphins were stealing signals from the Pats last year? Is it simply because the Pats got caught, while the Fins didn't?

Chris Mortensen: Yes, and what's interesting is that Thomas let it slip that the Dolphins had gotten some TV audio that helped them decipher some audibles and line calls. of course, Nick Saban and Bill Belichick have coached together and are bosom buddies, so it was ironic that the Dolphins shut out the Patriots that day...and Belichick never complained. The word is that this particular tactic involves wiring some interior D-linemen with microphones against a divisional opponent and matching up the video so the next time you play, you might have a big competitive advantage. I believe the Dolphins' incident was one of the reasons why the commissioner sent a stern warning to all teams.
    ====================================================================================================================

Pretty sad! BB kept the code of silence, yet his other ex-coach Mangini rats him out and that's the ONLY reason the Patriots are getting shafted while the Dolphins didn't.
