More Americans Added to Food Stamps Than Find Jobs

    10:30 AM, Sep 21, 2012 • By DANIEL HALPER

An alarming data point from the minority side of the Senate Budget Committee: More Americans are being added to food stamps than are finding jobs. The data is detailed in this chart, provided by the committee:

As the chart shows, between April-June 2012 (the most recent three month block for which government data is available), only 200,000 jobs have been created while 265,000 individuals have been added to the food stamp rolls. Additionally, in that time period, 246,000 workers were awarded disability.

Another chart shows that the last three month block is part of a larger trend. The chart, also from the minority side of the Senate Budget Committee, shows that "Workforce Shrinks Since January 2009 While Millions Sign Up For Disability And Food Stamps."

My patterned and predictable response is, 45% of returning veterans are applying for permanent disability... food stamps are an accompaniment to this status.

Perhaps war is more of an issue on our economy than we realize..

These 20 somethings are going to be on the "welfare" rolls for the rest of their lives... get used to it.

The thing is Obama did take over a huge mess. The other thing is some people don't think he accountable for anything. It's either not true or someone else's fault. You see we have the first perfect President:rolleyes:

    embellished numbers,

and the mess with the mortgages had more to do with liberals frank, waters, raines more than it had to do with bush. if these clowns did not fight with bush in 2003 and 2004 , the mortage mess would have not been nearly as bad

    No Jersey Selected

OT: In response to your line above - is it possible this phenomena is related to more people surviving battle injuries than in the past?

i.e. if you walked on a mine in WW2, the time it would take to get you to the hospital would leave you dead. Nowadays, first response is that much better and saving many people who 50,60,70 years ago would have died.

    Just thinking out loud.

As for the thread in general, obviously times are tough, so some increase would obviously be seen. I don't know how these increases are sustainable given all the fluff we spend our duckets on, something has to give.

Also I wonder how much the slow job creation has to do with stuff like the head of the company I work for put in place:

A hiring freeze since last year which will end on Nov. 7th if Obama loses.

More with less has been the company mantra.

45% is a big number but a combined half a million people have been added to the disability and food stamps rolls. How many were returning vets? It explains some of it of course but not most of it I don't think

I wonder if the increase in Vets Applying for Permanent Disability, has to do with a preponderance of attorneys hanging shingles out near the base, advertising assistance to get on permanent disability..

That is a lot of liability, as once you are on.. very difficult to get off.

Obama had control of congress that Reagan never had and has failed.

They also use their WIC cards to buy beer, cigs, cigars, scratch tickets.

Ive seen privatively owned convenience stores do it. They ring up milk, bread and crap like that in lieu of booze and smokes. Once word gets out, people with WIC cards are beating the door down to do business there.

What thing did he improve??.. raised taxes 11 times, and increased the national debt 3 fold..

But most importantly he changed the way we count the unemployed, he waged a war on Grenada without congressional approval, he was the head honcho in the Iran Contra Affair, he waved a big stick in Lebanon after 240 Marines were killed, but withdrew....

Reagan was lucky, he was prez before the internet and the continual news cycling.. if he was president in this day and age, he would be impeached.. he committed more impeachable crimes in office than any other president.

You have to remember the man behind Reagan was Cheney, the man who lived very near to Republican Presidents for 20 years when they ruled this country..
