DE John Abraham signing with Pats

According to Tony Santorsa - Abraham is finalizing a deal with the Pats.

Re: Erica Leigh: Pats finalizing terms with Abraham

Well the Pats got themselves a double digit sack passrusher. The question is does he have anything left in the tank to give at age 34? A gamble, but hopefully a low dollar, high reward risk that we're taking here.

Great, now get Wilson locked up. Then move on to Sanders/Freeney.

Hopefully the results are more toward Cox-Washington than Haynesworth-Ellis.

Hopefully it's a lower contract with incentives. Then we can work on adding Freeney as depth then monitor the Wilson/Sanders situations.

Isn't Tony Santorsa a Bleacher Report writer who used to try to pimp all his blog posts here?

Anybody with actual press credentials reporting this news?

Oh god can I trust this sauce ?! Her sauces may not be real?!

Just kidding she's legit. Hopefully he can find one more year of good play he's been propping his stats against bad teams the last few years. If its more than 2 million ill be pissed might as well get Bennett or avril if your spending 3-5 on an old fart.

Re: Erica Leigh: Pats finalizing terms with Abraham

Hope he can give us a Andre Carter type season...once a pass always a pass rusher. Hope is nothing like Shawn Ellis when he came here.

Re: DE John Abraham signing with Pats

Absolutely no reason to sign Freeney now, not that there was much in the first place. Once Dumervil is cut, I expect Freeney to sign with the Broncos.

Here's one: you can never have too many pass rushers.

Re: DE John Abraham signing with Pats

Will be more as a situation rusher than a full time player at this point in his career solid move.

Sanders would be sweet, fine with Jones, Still want Wilson or Pollard + Talib and another corner.

Re: DE John Abraham signing with Pats

All the more reason to sign Freeney.
We can make the #1 identity of the 2013 Patriots a consistent, ferocious pass rush.
That WILL result in a Championship.

Re: DE John Abraham signing with Pats

Why not? This defense was best when they rotated McGinest, Vrabel, and Colvin outside. I would love to have three starting quality DEs.

Re: DE John Abraham signing with Pats

Would have rather signed Osi over Abraham or Freeney, but Abraham is a nice pick up if he didn't cost too much.

NO! Denard to be locked up is enough punishment for the 2012 rookie class!

Re: DE John Abraham signing with Pats

This is true. However Freeney can no longer rush the passer and anything he is able to do comes with the asterisk that he is letting up 15 YPC whenever teams run at him.
If you're looking for a consistent, ferocious pass rush, that is all the more reason to not waste money on Freeney. He is the complete opposite of that now.

We already have three starting calibre DEs, assuming we sign Abraham. Freeney is not going to sign a vet min contract to be 4th on the depth chart after a HOF career and his name will earn him a gamble from some other team. No, he is going to go somewhere expecting as much money as he can get and a starting role.
