For those of you who actually like statistics and find comfort in facts -

In the United States fewer than 40 people died at the hands of terrorists in the 10 years since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. That compares with about 140,000 other murders during the same time.

Try the figures worldwide, the difference here is they paid a steep price for attacking the US.

For some reason murders, highway deaths and even cancer deaths don't cause a lot of people to sense any fear it will happen to them. Are they too routine?

Anyway, as far as deaths to terrorists it should be noted that many attacks have been thwarted or abandoned because of the "unfounded fear" I'm not jumping in with both feet endorsing the Heritage Foundation but they have a point

Exactly... the entire Homeland security and war on terror is nothing more than a subsidy for the defense and intelligence industries.

Not too mention a nice introduction in loss of freedoms to get people used to the government interjecting in your life.

So the effectiveness of measures taken prove they aren't needed?

We don't know what would have happened if we did not respond at all (like in the 90s).

I am quite sure there is a lot of waste. However we are at war with a large group of people who want to eliminate our way of life.

Can anyone provide a valid reason for Americans to join the Islamic Jihad? For the life of me, I've tried to figure out the answer. I just can't think of any rationale where someone would put a false religious belief (Jihad isn't really part of Islam) in front of their loyalty to their fellow country men & women.

Yet we've had several examples of people who have chosen to do exactly that. They put their religious beliefs in front of their loyalty to their own country...even when their beliefs are based in false doctrine.

That's always been the part of organized religion I just don't get.

P.S. I'd still love to see an American version of the Mossad.

No idea why, but people of all religions will believe stridently in things the religion doesn't really teach. Part of it is (willful?) ignorance.

People in this country just don't have the first idea about statistics or how things work. 35,000 die annually from influenza and no one cares, but when one kid gets EEE, it's makes headlines.

I think any American who joins The Islamic jihad does so because they HATE AMERICA.

I too would like to the Mossad in America, all over America.
