Anyone else you like playing over the next day or two? I enjoy your draft analysis. What a draft class 83; 6 hall of famers; Elway, ****erson, B. Matthews, Jim Kelly, Dan Marino and Darrell Green. Curt Warner might have been too if he didn't tear his knee up. ****erson was probably the best pure runner ever.Apologies to Jim Brown and maybe OJ. But, Walter Payton was a better running back. Because he could catch the ball, block, and even throw it on occasion. All the while being nearly just as good at running the ball.
Over their careers they had the same yards/carry (4.4) but Payton played longer and had more total yards. Payton didnt have the magnificent downfield runs that ****erson had, and was therefore no as exciting to watch, but he very consistently moved the chains, and did a great job in those other aspects of the game.
While you can debate who was the better runner I think it's pretty clear that Payton was the better football player.
