What the hell was Mike thinking? Calling retired champions "washed up" is about as childish a comment as I've ever heard. Coming from a champion like Mike I find that too weird. Was that comment taken out of context? I am disappointed that there is no context in which it was given. I find it very hard to believe that anybody could be that ungracious with the champions who hold the record that has stood all this time.

I remember at the time I was glad that an AFC team did it. Young people don't remember the battle for the AFC to establish an identity but that was a huge agenda for a long time. The NFC did dominate aside from the Dolphins and Raiders (and the Steelers didn't count.) The Dolphins put the new AFC teams on the map.

Do we just forget what these guys meant to the game? Do we just throw them away as irrelevant now that we have our turn in the sun? How freaking ungracious and small of Mike Vrabel. I think the 8.5 have gone to his head.

These guys always talk about Humbe Pie and the High Road and then when they get their buttons pushed a little they are just like everybody that they skewer.

Let's not confuse the Dolphins' players with their coach. Some of the players like Kuch and Mercury Morris are taking opinons that are 180 degrees from their coach. And even their coach has gone back on himself, so who the hell has to complain about those guys? This is perhaps the biggest record in the sport, it's being challenged, and we're going to ruin it by acting like little boys with hurt feelings? Amazing.

Well, Mike, you may be less washed up than the guys who got their first, but I don't know how. The record is still not washed up, and that's pretty relevant. Can you set a record that won't be equalled over the span of seven presidents? I hope you do, but I also hope you have the class to show your respect for the guys that got their first. Give them their last moment on the mountain alone until, and if, you can grab 19-0. Then it's your turn and we know you don't want to be called irrelevant 30 years from now when you're bent over and crippled. You want people to recognize what you did in your prime, so please recognize what they did in their primes.

The '72 Dolphins are not washed up, and their record proves it. Anybody making public predictions about it from the Patriots organization is not welcome in my book. I've been taught to think this way by the Patriots. Are you a Patriots or not?

Shut up. Vrabel was only responding after the 72 Dolphins head coach fired the first shot.

If you don't call them "washed up" then what do you call them? I have no problem with it.

he also said shula is a hall of fame coach and have a lot of respect. the media just stripped out those 2 words. As far the vrabel and the pats go...they have been doing just that for 9 games "Shut up and played"

FrontSeven sounds like a cranky old Fish fan. Cry me a river old man. Just because you play for the Patriots doesn't mean you have to be a robot. Yeah, the 8.5 sacks have gone to Vrabel's head, that's it.

That remark from Vrabs is mild in light of what these turkeys really
    deserve.
It actually it is quite remarkable that the PATs have held their responses
in check for 99% of the time. I guess even Vrabs can have a weak day
    like most humans I know.

Before going on a speculative diatribe questioning the respect of Vrabel I suggest you research the context of such a statement. In addition, instead of basing your supposition on snippets specifically chosen by sportswriters to further an agenda, listen to the quote. Note its tone.

Beyond that, you can have reverence for the history of the game without caring about the opinions of retired players and coaches who are, indeed, actively rooting against your team.

Shula does not get a free pass for making petty, ill-informed comments about a team that is challenging a record once set by his club. I would assume someone so revered would have more respect for himself and the league than to further the image of his club as being vindictive, childish, and egocentric.

I am not in awe of the 72 Dolphins. They will not be equal to the 2007 Patriots when all is said and done. It is pretty hard to take a comment from today and compare it to 72 when the Internet was far from born. What comments were spoken by the Dolphins that year? What about Shula undermining the Baltimore Colts? That little transgression cost a number one pick. Step away from the soapbox.

Vrabel should shut up and play?? It's not like he hasn't been performing. He's been out on just about every defensive snap, and even some offensive ones. Shula went and kicked the dignity and respect of the Patriots right in the crotch (including everything that Vrabel has fought hard for and merited). Can we expect them (the Pats) to sit there politely when everything they've done in previous years is ridiculed. No. If Shula's going to take a low-blow, then he has one coming in return. It isn't irreverence, it's retaliation. His attack was personal to the players, that's why Shula later backpeddled. He realized his mistake. If someone criticized your crowning achievements, wouldn't you react with equal ferocity? Shula isn't all of a sudden beyond reproach in an ivory tower of infinite repute casting criticisms upon "lesser mortals."

As far as I'm concerned, Vrabel can say anything he likes. He has EARNED the right. I think this thread is pretty dumb and I'm not terribly impressed by the reasoning or writing of FrontSeven, at least on this occasion.

I have no problem with what he said. I can understand the frustration. Did you hear those "washed up" peices o' sh!te before the game last week in that stupid ESPN feel good piece.

"Don't call me when you're in my town, call me when you are in my neighborhood" PLEEEEASE, just STFU

Why do I sense a stupid fukcing comment from AquaDouche upcoming

you'd think that Shula would've learned from Marino on how to act in case a cherished record was in true danger of being broken.

To be at honest, my first reaction was "Hmm, that's not very Patriot like" we usually don't respond to such crap, but I'm fine with it.

Shula really was being just obsurd. If anything justified a response, it was that. Would I have still preferred no comment? Sure. Do I have any problem with it? No.
