Did you read the whole article?

It says the Phins are asking for draft choices.

Re: Jason Taylor to be a Free Agent!

Not all that surprising. Who wouldn't love to see him in a Pats uni!

Re: Miami to trade Jason Taylor

If people haven't been watching the Dolphins, they aren't sitting back and waiting for several years down the line to compete. Parcells wants the Dolphins competitive this year. That means they aren't going to help a division competititor beat them twice this season.

Besides, if the rumor proposed trade of Green Bay's 2nd and 4th are true, the Pats are not going to trade for Taylor. The Pats have lower 2nd and 4th round picks than the Packers. That means the Pats would have to offer more. Even if the Pats had higher picks, I think Parcells would happily still go with the Packers because he would rather get similiar value and get Taylor out of the division.

Parcells and Belichick may have buried the hatchet, but neither will help the other get wins. Belichick is closer to Saban and he and Saban didn't do any favors for each other.

From PFT:

But, as Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports reports, a divorce between Taylor and the Dolphins is coming.

Per Cole, the team and the player have agreed to an amicable split. But, as we've pointed out, no one has consulted with Taylor about whether he'd accept a trade to Green Bay (or anywhere). So don't look for anything to happen soon. "

"An amicable split" doesn't require draft choices...does it?

It does in this market. Have you seen the trades going on out there? Parcells would be stupid to just cut Taylor. At worst he could probably get a third round pick for the guy based on some of the trades that have happened in the last few days.

Re: Miami to trade Jason Taylor [merged]

lets trade a 3rd and a 5th rounder for him thats what everybody seems to be going for now. Come on BB do it! Imagine Adalius Thomas and Jason Taylor on the outside!!!

That all depends on Taylor being a willing participant. Like Moss last season, Taylor may be able to dictate his destination by saying which team he would be willing to negotiate with. That would force Miami to trade him, or possibly even release him. I believe his salary cap hit is like 9 million this season for Miami. I doubt a team will trade a 2nd rdr for 1 season of Taylor. That trade would be contingent on signing another deal. So Taylor's assent seems crucial.

Would have to know what they agreed to. If the agreement was based
on a trade only Dolphins liked then that is not 'amicable'.

If Jason wants to go to a certain team then Dolphins would have to agree
if the agreement is amicable. The Dolphins may in turn require something. Who knows what they agreed to other than to split.

It would seem Jason has a lot of freedom in this decision.

Perhaps they split and Jason agreed to dissolve any obligations in the
current contract. That may free up millions for the Dolphins.

I think Jason would love to play for the PATs and if so he may have requested he be able to choose any team he desires.

Re: Jason Taylor to be a Free Agent!

Reading comprehension is a lost art.

"Beyond that, the stated price of a second- and fourth-round pick for Taylor is low."

That Mo is the writers opinion. That Mo is not what the
'amicable agreement' was for sure .....since we have no idea what they
agreed to other that it was an 'amicable agreement'.
Jason obviously has his idea what agreement he would be happy with.

Give it up, you're just looking sillier now. Amicable isn't a synonym for free, because if it was he'd be a FA now. The alternative would be acrimonious, in which case he would be demanding a trade and they would be refusing. Then his only option is to retire, and he can't play anywhere...

There are no obligations to disolve in his current contract other than salary which disappears when he leaves, whether by trade or by being cut. But they will have some dead cap he can't disolve either way too, so that is why they will try to trade him rather than cut him. The only way they cut him is if he strong arms them into it by threatening to start chiping. He won't do that because he spent his career in Miami and is a face of the franchise player. They will either lower their demands (including settling for a later pick in 2009) until they find someone he is willing to play for, or eventually they will cut him loose, but probably not before July.

the whole article:

That’s why an Internet rumor that made the rounds Saturday about Taylor going to Green Bay makes some sense. It’s premature, but it’s logical. Beyond that, the stated price of a second- and fourth-round pick for Taylor is low. Heck, if Justin Smith can get $65 million from San Francisco, the Dolphins should be able to get at least a first-round pick for Taylor.

Dolphins agree to set free Jason Taylor before Draft

Portion of Miami Sunday Herald article:

Dolphins, Taylor to part ways?
Jason Taylor and the Dolphins have agreed to amicably part ways between now and the NFL Draft, according to a report by Yahoo! Sports.

Within the past two weeks, since being named a contestant on Dancing with the Stars, Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor has already left Miami to move into a home in Los Angeles where he plans to stay until his time on the show ends.

Now, however, it appears he might not be returning at all -- at least not to play football.

Taylor and the Dolphins reportedly have agreed to amicably part ways at some point between now and the NFL Draft on April 26, Yahoo! Sports reported Saturday night on its website. There is no animosity between the two sides, according to the report.

Three individuals close to Taylor said Saturday they were not aware of such an agreement, but the notion certainly isn't far-fetched. It also isn't much of a surprise. Taylor has privately expressed his frustration with the constant rebuilding projects in Miami, and he isn't interested in being part of another one.

He also has placed emphasis on his post-career plans recently, which was reinforced by his decision to participate on Dancing with the Stars. Taylor's preparations for the show already have begun (it begins March 17), and his responsibilities might not be fulfilled until mid-May.

If that were the case, Taylor would miss much of the Dolphins' offseason training program -- something that hasn't thrilled Miami's new staff, considering Taylor is supposed to be the team captain and leader.

But that doesn't mean Taylor and his current bosses aren't getting along, which is emphasized in the Yahoo! report. Instead, both sides have different plans for their futures that have led to a possible -- and seemingly inevitable -- split.

That said, Miami isn't likely to simply cut Taylor loose, the same way the team waived Taylor's brother-in-law, former Dolphins linebacker Zach Thomas. Vice president of football operations Bill Parcells has not been able to justify letting his best player leave without getting something in return, which is why the team could soon enter into trade talks with potential suitors for Taylor.

That shouldn't be overly difficult, given that Taylor seemingly has several more productive years left in his career. But finding a suitor that fits Taylor's desires might also be a requirement, since Taylor also could opt for retirement without the right fit.

Taylor has toyed with thoughts of retiring for the past two years, and it remains an option if indeed he felt his post-career plans in Hollywood were promising enough to leave the game.

So while the Dolphins and Taylor have reportedly decided to part ways, such a notion doesn't necessarily mean either side knows exactly how that's going to occur -- whether via trade or retirement.

Whatever the scenario, it continues to appear more and more likely as if the Dolphins will soon also be without another longtime face of the organization. First, Thomas. Now, likely Taylor.

...

Pace also visited the Jets on Saturday, and he is expected to decide between the two teams by Sunday. While he seemed to be leaning toward the Dolphins, he said Friday he was excited about the potential of playing opposite Taylor.

Word of Taylor's looming departure could cause Pace to either lean away from the Dolphins because he won't be playing with Taylor -- or it could cause him to believe he'll have more opportunity to succeed.

Either way, the end of an era in Dolphins football appears to be nearing close as Taylor's future with a team he spent 11 years playing for appears bleak.

Re: Dolphins agree to set free Jason Taylor before Draft

It still does not mean we will get him, he is more a DE than a LB, and DE is probably the biggest strength on our team

Re: Dolphins agree to set free Jason Taylor before Draft

I think he could be a great OLB in our system. I wonder what it would take to get him? 3rd rounder this year & next?

Im not saying we cant use a Jason Taylor, just wonderin how he would fit in the system, I mean I guess he could be a OLB, and he has played under Capers system, when he won the defensive player of the yr.. But he is not getting cut, and he is not getting traded to the Pats, this is not wes wekler, and cam cameron is not down there anymore..:D
