Re: Schefter: Pats sign Brian Waters

Pats will need to make a roster move to make it official.. My guess is Wendell to the IR...

Steal and a half. Love this signing. Waters is still in the top 8% of NFL starting guards (PFF rated him the 12th best guard from last season).

Twitter
To those asking about cuts... My guess is Tarpinian to the IR or a DB cut.

Question to those that know about these sorts of things:
What would be the difference between putting Tarpinian on IR before final cuts and doing it now?

Well, KC did lead the league in total rushing yards and in rushing yards per game, so they do some things well. Old but good balls, from a good unit, at a position of weakness...I see no problem here.

Re: Schefter: Pats sign Brian Waters

Well this helps the pats madden team out a lot. Bye 70 overall starter Connolly, hello 90 overall waters. :D

If he can still play at 80 overall in real life its an upgrade.

But it's PFF.

I woke up to this as I read it on roto:singing::singing::singing:

if not anything, looks like a solid vet signing for backup. I wonder who will be moved to put him in the roster

Re: Schefter: Pats sign Brian Waters

I'm a little puzzled by the various IR predictions. If those moves were in the offing, why wait until today? And if Wendell were the cut, wouldn't that still leave the team one interior OL short?

Maybe Tracy White as the cut? As much as I value ST specialists, the roster's now bursting with them: Slater, Tarpinian, Ihedigbo & White. Slater is my lock, Ihedigbo brings the most value of the four on offense/defense, and Tarpinian is 7 years younger than White.

Re: Schefter: Pats sign Brian Waters

Good news.

It would be nice to have access to some scouting reports on Waters - by week 6 we could have Connolly and Cannon in the mix at RG.

Maybe i'll head over to a Chiefs forum and see what they think.

Re: Schefter: Pats sign Brian Waters

Maybe this means they found a trade for Butler.

Re: Schefter: Pats sign Brian Waters

Waters has been on the downside for 3 years now. This wasn't a good signing at all

Re: Schefter: Pats sign Brian Waters

The Pats going for a Pink Floyd reunion? They now have a Waters, Barrett and Wright on the roster. They just need to sign a Gilmour and Mason.

Re: Schefter: Pats sign Brian Waters

Yeah generally Madden people dont agree with Belichick haha. Now without Merriweather, Sanders, and Morris the Patriots have no FS or FB on the Madden roster (although something will be tweaked wen they update with the new cuts. Barrett is listed as OLB.. and a bad one at like 65.. Sergio Brown is like a 62 Overall and he will be starting as of now. Madden ratings people should say - well if BB thinks Brown is good enough to start over Merriweather thats good enough for me - and bump Brown way up and drop Merri way down haha.

Back on topic --

Waters is atleast as good as Connolly and a major upgrade at backup RG if Connolly is healthy enough to go and the starting RG. Fine with this move.

As always, a fair and balanced view from the least effective Jets troll to grace these forums :D

I'm wondering that myself. I suspect it might have something to do with clearing waviers? To put Christian Cox on IR a few weeks ago, he had to clear waivers. I didn't see anything about Ohrnberger having to clear waivers. Is it different for rookies?

The only way it would make sense to keep Tarpinian on the 53 then put him on IR is if you would have to expose him to waivers before final cuts, but not after?

Anyone?

Wasn't yesterday the first day to send players to IR without waivers? So why would you IR somebody today, having had to cut a player to make room for him yesterday? Or do I have that wrong?
