Just a couple of youngsters so far.
I honestly could care less if mankins pulls this bs again. Im worried about seeing Brady get there with Welker, Branch Edelman etc working with new rookies (who need to get signed and in camp asap) and working with the new RB's to get this offense clicking.
Can anyone enlighten me as to Mankin's situation? Is he still franchised according to the new CBA?
We know Tony Carter won't be one of them.
Yes he is...and he's not happy about it.
Yes, Mankins is still Franchise tagged.
First 3 in that media have seen are Jenkins, Price and Turner.
But Tom E tweets:
The funny thing about Mankins amid all the bluster is it's probably easier for him to report then guys flying or driving in from all over...he never leaves the area code...has been here all along this off season as he was last.
Early work out of CA is that Jackson plans to sign his tender. But we know how accurate the early word can be in his case...
Connolly, Wendell, Ninko, Chung and Fletcher have also arrived so far.
Also Hoyer and Barrett. SMY says 5 have come out in shorts and team tees so there were obviously many early arrivals the media missed.
SMY should have her own thread here to keep us peons informed and up to date with what be happening
I'm excited as hell...been hitting the refresh button every 10 minutes on various sites!
Not sure if Edelman is there but he is definitely in town.
SMY says she was told about 15 players were already inside the building at 10AM.
Robert Kraft just arrived.
Mankins agent sounded a little snippy with Rappaport saying there was nothing going on (contract wise).
Seems today will be largely ceremonial, maybe quick once over with medical staff and coaches and off you go.
According to the twitter and facebook pages of Julian Edelman and Devin McCourty they arrived yesterday.
If I'm Mankins, I hold out because I was disrespected with a measly $10M yearly contract. NOT! If he holds out, watch the Pats put him on the season ending DID NOT REPORT list, just to spite the effer.
Yes, still franchised. In theory another team could sign him to an offer which the Pats would have the opportunity to match; if they did not that other team would have to hand over their 2012 and 2013 first round picks to the Pats. Obviously, almost no chance of that happening.
As far as working out a new contract with Mankins, per the new CBA the deadline to do so is September 20. Once that date passes the Pats would either have to franchise him again or he becomes a free agent when the new NFL year begins somewhere around March 1.
Franchised players holding out during training camp has pretty much become standard operating procedure, so it wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Mankins does not report. However, once the season starts I definitely expect him to play; there's a huge difference between the weekly paychecks he would be passing up this year and what he was forfeiting by holding out last year.
SMY reports her day is complete as the GOAT is in the building...
Hows his hair?
Someone was bound to ask.
Branch, Chung, and Woodhead there.. According to Jeff Howe.
