As there was already a link for the Sporting News 7 Round Mock, I thought I'd share the Todd McShay/ Scouts Inc choices for the Patriots from his 7 Round Mock (for those who don't get ESPN Insider).

#21 A Cromartie DC Fl. St.- As he already has his own thread, I won't go to much into detail. I have a little problem w/ the thought BB & Co. would use a 1st rd. pick on someone w/ only 1 career start, no matter how athletic he is. Still on board- D Williams M Lawson B Carpenter L Maroney

Concur on the risk concerns, Manny Lawson for me.

#52 Brian Calhoun RB Wisconson- Not a bad pick when you consider how much time Faulk has missed the last few years. Still on Board- D Tapp, J Klopfenstein, M Anderson, M Stovall, D Bullocks G Jennings

Faulk eats this kid for breakfast, Joe Klopfenstein is my favorite if NE gets Lawson, otherwise take Tapp.

#75 Gerris Wilkinson ILB Georgia Tech- I could see this. I might be looking WR myself (though BB seldom seems to listen to me). Still on board- M Stanley, D Hagan, P Watkins, P Haralson

Silly rabbit, MLBs are for 4-3s. Stanley would do the most for team depth, but I like Haralson as an option.

#86 Brandon Williams WR Wisconson- I know I differ from many on this Board, I like this pick, esp. @ 86. Nice quickness & return skills as well. Still on the board- J Avant, J Trueblood, A Smith, M Drew, G Whimper

He came off my board after I read he held a whine-a-thon on the sideline in the Shrine Game. Drew for Special Teams, he'd be a great gunner.

#106 Stanley McClover DE/ OLB Auburn- Going solely on stats (I haven't seen him play), He seems like he might fit. Still on the board- T Jennings, R O'Callahan, F Matua

Going solely on stats, I take Mincey, I've seen him play. Jennings if he didn't have the off-field history would be interesting.

#118 Charles Gordon DB/ WR Kansas- Fast. Good kick returner. "W Blackman-esque" all purpose player. Still on the Board- L Williams(miami), B Marshall (Cent. Fla.), R Edwards (Perdue)

Not bad, but I'd take Marshall - DB, where are you getting the TO attitude story?

#136 Kai Parham ILB Virginia- Good Production. Worked in A Groh system. 5.1 40 ???? OK for 5th rd I guess. Still on the board- M Maxey (miami), B Cofield (Nwestern), G Riggs Jr (auburn), J Mincey (Fla), W Mathis (fresno) M Hass (oregon)

How can you pass up Hass? And I'd take Cofield before Kai, you could start training Mike Wright to be Willie's repacement.

#191 Josh Huston K Ohio St- Best available kicker most likely. Still on board J Wyche (Syracuse)

Jeff Glas (North Dakota)

#205 Kendrick Golston DT Georgia- I must admit that I haven't heard of him...

There is a good reason you haven't, wasn't there a cheerleader they could draft to warm the bench?

#206 Dan Stevenson G Notre Dame- Developemental pick. I could see it. Still on Board K Ellison (Oregon), M Vick (VA St), R La Casse (Syracuse).

Could have got him as a UDFA for camp fodder, Ellison or LaCasse.

#229 Marcus Green DT Ohio St- Training camp fodder most likely. Left on the Board- F Roach (Bama), S Havner (UCLA), B Smith (Missouri), A Jennings (fresno st)

Roach for camp fodder, Jennings will be there as UDFA to compete with Maurice Drew.

Call me pessimistic, but I really think Lawson will not be there at 21. There's buzz around him now and some see him taken as early as 11(!) by the Rams.

4/27 Mock draft was updated.

Patriots Selections
21. New England Patriots (10-6)
Top five needs: ILB/OLB, WR, DC, RB, DT
The pick: +Antonio Cromartie, DC, Florida State
The Patriots have several needs on defense and they could also use this pick on a wide receiver should Jackson or Holmes slide. While linebacker is a bigger need, there is far more value where the Patriots select in the bottom half of the first round. Cromartie is a bit raw and rusty after starting just one game at Florida State and missing the entire 2005 season with a knee injury. However, Cromartie is healthy now and he possesses an outstanding combination of size, speed and athleticism. New England's coaching staff has done a good job of developing secondary players quickly (see Eugene Wilson, Asante Samuel and Ellis Hobbs) and there's no questioning Cromartie's upside.
Other scenarios:
• Trade up, targeting OLBs Greenway, Sims, Wimbley or Lawson.
• Trade up, targeting WRs Jackson or Holmes.
• Select best available DC: Hill, Williams or Joseph.
• Select best available DS: Whitner or Allen.
• Select RB Maroney.

52. Abdul Hodge, ILB, Iowa
75. (from Balt.)Travis Wilson, WR, Oklahoma
86. Montavious Stanley, DT, Louisville
106. (from Det,) Leon Washington, RB, Florida State
118. +Omar Jacobs, QB, Bowling Green
136. (from Oak.)+Kai Parham, ILB, Virginia
191. Josh Huston, PK, Ohio State
205. (Comp. Selection) Todd Watkins, WR, BYU
206. (Comp. Selection) Jeremy Bloom, RS, Colorado
229. Marcus Green, DT, Ohio State
