    That Mattapan shooting was terrible....

Last night I was watching the news and people were talking about the mother
of the 2 year old. They were saying she was a great mother.

Maybe she was a good mother....
All I know is If the baby was in bed at 1am, he would still be alive.

    I am a father of a 4 year old boy & a 3 year old girl.
They go to bed at 7pm.

I feel bad for that little boy....

Horrible story ... is that the neighborhood that has had many shootings?

to be honest I grew up in the projects ... looking from the outside in one would say the kid needs to be in bed and I'd have my doors locked. But you kind of get used to it in a weird way ... you don't always feel the danger that is apparent to everyone else. These people lived in a drug infested neighborhood ... sad to say but they probably felt safe.

Unfortunately it is not that uncommon. The link is to a brawl that broke out at a birthday party for a three year old at ONE IN THE MORNING!!!!!! What are they doing up then????

People get shot every day, but no too often is it a 2 year old who
    get's shot outside at 1am.

The media would not dare address this issue.

The truth is...... If that little boy was in bed, he would be alive today.

The truth is - you don't KNOW what the truth is. Don't you ever get tired of passing all this sanctimonial judgemental bullsh!t every day of the week?

You don't know what happened. I don't know what happened. The police don't know what happened.

The truth is - babies get shot in their beds every day of the week, too.

The truth is this particular child was found cradled in his mother's arms - she died trying to protect him. Perhaps she ran OUT of a house and took her son with her rather than abandon him inside. Pehaps she showed poor judgement being in the wrong place at the wrong time and having her child with her. Perhaps she was forced to be somewhere she didn't want to be and rather than leave her child alone, gathered him and brought him with her. Perhaps she was forced to bring him with her. Perhaps she was just stupid. Perhaps a whole bunch of things.......but none of them are the truth because we don't know the truth.

The media does not dare to "address this issue," because the media is smart enough to remain non-judgemental and not start yacking and making things up.

There are lots of reasons that small children are out of their homes during the nighttime hours. My eldest boy sometimes came to work with me and slept in a crib in the manager's office when I was without a babysitter. We left work at 2AM every morning. Mothers sometimes do what mothers have to do to survive - and to insure their child's survival. It must be wonderful to be you and to never have had a situation where you sometimes had to make tough choices. Sometimes children get sick and need to be taken to the ER in the middle of the night. Sometimes you get a phone call which says a family member desperately needs your help - and you bundle up your sleeping child and take him with you because there's no one else to leave him with. Sometimes you go to visit friends at 6PM and you're having a good time, your kid falls asleep on the couch and you stay and watch a movie until midnight.

What a wonderful black and white world you must live in, Joe. Congratulations.

    Let's see.....

Where would the baby be safer.....

In the crib which I assume was inside the house surounded by 4 walls and
    a door.

    or

Or outside at 1am in a drug infested neighborhood where shootings are not out of the ordinary. I know the neighborhood quite well. I am sure I know
far more about that neighborhood and the drugs moved in that neighborhood
    than you.

It is too bad that baby had to lose his life for his mothers poor judgement.

The "Gang Bangers" own Mattapan, Cops keep their guns in their laps when they ride through there, the only time the streets are safe is on Xmas day and there is a Nor East Blizzard blowing through.

there have been plenty of people shot while in their house by stray bullets.

Yes ... he should be in bed ... but these people live in a different environment.

Not saying that's acceptable ... perhaps his mother did not want him to be in the house alone either.

Must be bogus stories - no one is ever in danger in their own home. Ask Joe, he'll tell you.

    Let's see......

There were no shots fired inside the home that night.
There were a dozen shots fired at the people outside of the house.

Where would you put the little boy to keep him safe?

I would put him in his crib, inside the house.

We already know what happened to him for being outside at 1am.

    HE IS DEAD !

    NICE JOB MOM !

The dead men were all found naked, too, Joe. Think they were willfully walking around the neighborhood like that or does it sound more like they were inside and ran out while trying to escape?

BUt you're right - the baby is dead - and that's a shame.

So is his mother. She died clutching him to her chest in an attempt to shield him. Regardless of where she was or what she was doing there, in the end she attempted to do the right thing.

    Nice job, Mom, indeed.

Bullets fly around all over the place and it can happen anywhere almost....but in some neighborhoods it might not be the best idea to be out with little kids in the wee hours of the morning unless there is a good reason. All of those links show that there is no for sure safe harbor. Joe might have been jumping to conclusions about the reason the 2 year old was up but if a kid can get hit inside a house then he's kind of a sitting duck outside.

True...but as I've already pointed out - the three men shot at the same time were found stark naked. Which really seems to point to everyone running out of a house to escape something and having been chased from inside the home.

More to the point, I'm trying to say we don't KNOW what happened or why it happened. We only know that a 2 year old boy and his mother were shot dead. What good does blaming her do? What more harm to you want to befall her? Whatever happened to not speaking ill of the dead - especially when you don't know the circumstances or the people involved?

And by "you" I mean "Joe."

    Mother of the year !

Too bad Mom did not have to work in the morning, or she would have
    had the child in bed.

    Mom work.....????

The mother had poor judgment on her decision to take the boy outside at 1am.

It cost the little boy his life.

Only a fool would defend a decision that cost a child his life.

No, Mom didn't work. Mom was attending school at Bunker Hill Community College- studying to be a police officer.

She'd graduated high school -never been in trouble - was going to college.

    Bad mommy, bad, bad.
