Wonderful, you get fined now if you don't spend money that the government wants you to. What's next ? Getting fined for not wearing a seatbelt ?

I would like to know the cost of this for an individual and family as well as its proposed impact on the small businesses of Massachusetts. Seems like a good idea, kinda like the senior drug prescription benefit, however the devil is in the details...

No, that's not a good idea. Too many drugs, too many unecessary drugs, too many old people.

This is another great achievement by the liberal state of Massachusetts. I have not yet read an analysis of its expected impact, but my guess is that it will be good for economy, and more importantly good for the working poor. We might lose some of our uncaring small employers, but that will only create opportunities for others.

All joking aside, any good links to the details of this plan? I've heard lefties and righties both screaming in agony over this one, so perhaps there really is something to it after all.

What's so bad about universal health coverage? We have it and have the 4th biggest economy in the world. It isn't perfect and there are big problems with bureaucracy, but I'll take that over people dying because they can't afford healthcare. I personally find it sad that there are some who find that acceptable. I guess you call it "lack of personal responsibility" or liberals' fault.
For those of you who didn't read the article (as there are often posters who reply to threads without reading the links), it was approved by Mitt Romney. Indeed, he took credit for most of its ideas.

Maybe if you get a job instead of sitting in front of a computer every day alone in your room, you might get better health care.

RETIRED, I have good health care, but Medicaid is better, they walk into a hospital or dental clinic, show them their card and everything is FREE, when they are done they give them free baloons and lolipops

I have to pay for supplemental and I don't get any lolipops.

Just another reason not to live in Massachusetts.

Increased health care is a good thing.

Penalizing those who choose not to participate - well, that's just Facist.

    Nothing is for nothing
If it's free it's no good
You get what you pay for
    Free washing machines never work

Do you want the Socialist Lefties telling you what Doctor you have to go to while they go to their own "Private Doctor"

If you need surgery do you want wait in line for it.

If it's to good to be true than it's not true.

Why do many, many border line Canadians come to Maine for their Heart Surgery. Now, people from Mass will be joining them.

    "Hello, this is Dr Blood"
    "Dr, Dr, please help me"
    "What's wrong"
"My husband is turning blue, there's funny stuff coming out of his ears and he can't breath"
"OK, be calm, we have an opening next month on the 22nd, bring him in we will have a look at him"
"F--k you, I'm bringing him up to Maine"
    click.

How on earth will this be good for the economy? And if you chase "uncaring" businesses out of Massachusetts, who or what is going to replace them?

Personally, I don't consider a small business owner that simply doesn't want to go bankrupt to be "uncaring".

And watch, one of the impacts of this will be that many of those "working poor" will be let go, and/or have their wages reduced to offset the cost of your socialist experimentation. "...another great acheivment..."

It remains to be seen, BlueTalon. As is the liberal state of Massachusetts is in many areas one of the leading states in terms of education, salary, health, and other measures of quality of life. So far, Massachusetts has proven itself to be a better example to the nation than some of the newer states that contribute far less to our nation. If Massachusetts is a model liberal state, what would you say is a model conservative state? Maybe we can do a comparison?

Um, Massachusetts is FAR from a "leading state in in terms of education, salary, health, and other measures of quality of life." Recent census data shows that Massachusetts is one of only TWO states that have lost population. Businesses - as well as people - are leaving the state left and right.

Post Script: Massachusetts is among the best in the country - if not the world - in private education. Public schools, on the other hand, leave quite a bit to be desired.

I'm not judging the quality of any of these links, but basically found them by doing a quick search of things like "state ranking taxes" or "state ranking education," etc. You'll see that the liberal state of Massachusetts is truly one of the best, and that doesn't include it's fantastic history, beautiful landscape, great universities and museums, world-class sports teams, etc. It's interesting that the liberal state of Massachusetts is one of the first in the nation. I guess we've evolved further than most other states!

So which conservative state would you say is most successful?
