Big bad Kings County, MD cops serving "no-knock" warrant bust down door, blow away innocent family's two dogs and handcuff the owner and his mother-in-law on the floor over a mailed package of pot. Problem is, the owner is the Mayor and the package was being sent unknown to the residents. Even the simplest investigation and the slightest amount of common sense and judgement would have prevented this.

Something has to be done about these fascist police departments, their violent tactics and trigger-happy cowardice. They have way too much latitude and these warrants are unconstitutional. Not sure how they pass judicial muster.

Police departments (with the help of their unions) use fear tactics, reality TV shows, and the general anxiety of the public to keep themselves funded and immune from scrutiny.

Over pot no less. This country has it's priorities so out of whack it's disgusting. I wonder how many tax dollars it cost for these bullies to exercise their small penis complexes.

They really screwed the pooch on this one.

Here's the same story from the Washington Post:

I don't think that they did a single thing right on this warrant. First off, how do you not know that the house you have sworn out a warrant for, BELONGS TO THE MAYOR! At the very least, that would have led them to use some caution. The shooting of the dogs, and the knocking down of the door, is also ridiculous. Most of the time with any of these "controlled delivery" cases, the "package" will be "bugged" so that the Police know when it has been opened. It is a little hard to prove knowledge, when the box is left unopened.

Normally, I would try to defend them, however, these actions appear to be defenseless. The only thing I can think of, is that a snitch set them up, by sending this stuff to the Mayor's house, and told them that the house was booby trap, and had pit bulls. But either way, they were very wrong, can the Mayor sue his own county?
