According to Albert Breer of our sister paper, the MetroWest Daily News, the Patriots have agreed to a five-year contract with first round pick Laurence Maroney. Terms were not disclosed.

Maroney will be on hand in the morning when the team holds its first practice of training camp.

“It was real important to get Laurence in,†agent Vance Malinovic said. “We wanted him to start his career on the right foot.â€

Good to have Maroney in on time. Even if Dillon is a stud again this year, (and I do expect him to have a solid season) a backup we can count on when Dillon needs a breather will be refreshing.

The Patriots got some good news last night when rookie running back Laurence Maroney agreed to a contract, according to a team source and a source close to Maroney

Also, if you read this article, more whining by Branches agent.

``I don't know when that's going to happen," Chayut said. ``He recognizes, from his perspective, they're not doing right by him and he's disappointed with the team."

Why is it when a player gets what he wants and leaves a team for a big money contract, the player and agent come out and say "Hey, it's a business, and we have to do what is in our best interest."

Yet when a player doesn't get what he wants contractually, all of a sudden it is no longer a business, it's personal.

IMO, you can't have it both ways
