Though many experts considered Miami the early favorite to land Manning, he never had them as his priority.
A source close to the situation said Dolphins management had to enlist the help of Dan Marino just to secure a meeting with Manning.
The Dolphins' brass did not deal with Manning directly and was frustrated last week when it could not pin down a meeting with him through his agents at Creative Artists Agency (CAA).
With the clock ticking, the Dolphins asked Marino - their legendary former quarterback and a golfing partner of Manning's - to please call him personally and try to persuade him to meet with the team.
While Manning flew to Tennessee, Denver and Arizona to tour their facilities and meet with players, coaches and executives, his meeting with the Dolphins on Monday was conducted in his hometown of Indianapolis, and with only coach Joe Philbin and other members of the coaching staff present - not Ireland or Ross.

Yeah I can't see Miami at all; why would Manning want to go to a team in rebuilding mode?

Denver was a Playoff team with a well below avg QB, in a weak division; Arizona isn't too far removed from a SB appearance in a division with only one other good team and some great weapons; Tennessee had a good A++ RB and some good WR's.

All three would appeal to Manning for a shot at a ring over the Fins.

I said all along that the AFCE was out on principle because of us, and the Dolphins and JETS were not even on his radar in addition because of ownership and management. Ditto Washington. Mediots spin this storyline crap that has no rational basis whatsoever for the same reason they never honestly assess these organizations - can't write them off and limit your audience.

I think the Tennessee thing is almost a similar deal where he had to let them in because of the whole owner tugging on the Tennessee heartstrings baloney. Whether having ownership potential dangled has now actually made them a contender remains to be seen. Not that Jacksonville and Houston shouldn't have been in the hunt as well just on principle.

AZ always made the most sense unless he really is NFC adverse. Denver makes a ton of sense because of Elway and his need to find a way around Tebow and because they are sitting on a ton of cap space and Fox is a defensive HC. Seattle would have made a lot of sense too being off the beaten path with a rabid fanbase that isn't demanding, but he either doesn't like rain or doesn't like the situation with an absentee (nearly invisible) owner ergo a FO and HC who probably don't have a ton of security.

Thats funny. Peyton will most likely stay in the AFC South and play for the Titans, it makes to much sense for him not to sign there. It also makes to much sense for peyton not to sign with the dolpheeens.

I guess any team that has had a legend of a QB is not where Peyton wants to play.

For one reason or another, this post made me laugh. Maybe it's because I forgot all about that guy.

Either way, thanks PWP, that **** was funny:D

It's hard to imagine what these marathon meetings with teams must be like, especially with the Miami coaching staff flying to Indy. This would've made a great reality series on HBO.

Somehow, it's difficult for me to imagine Marino "begging" anyone for anything. That guy has been "**** of the Walk" wherever he's been for his entire life...even on the CBS set.

..and Mods, please don't censor that word. It's a legit metaphor, referring to a Rooster.

What would be even funnier at this point is if Manning takes in all this information and then decides that all of them are jokers and none of them are worth the risk of long term injury, and just retires.

That's some sad sh#t....combine that with the asinine move to trade a WEAPON like Marshall(maybe their only offensive weapon) for NO apparent reasons. The doofins continue to be the laughingstocks of the NFL!

He wasn't traded for no apparent reason. He was traded because he's admittedly unstable and unable to stay out of trouble and too much effort as well as money to invest in a headache no matter how talented let alone when you are starting over with a whole new staff and QB. Chicago's new GM now has egg all over his face for opting to cater to the overhyped QB they traded too much for three years ago that he inherited so he could reunite with his troubled personal binky who happened to be in a bar fight 24 hours earlier that the league is now investigating.

Getting rid of Marshall was the smartest thing anyone in that franchise has done in years. Trouble is ownership remains delusional about landing coveted talent on the sidelines or under center because no one smart enough to effect the outcome in Miami is interested in joining that franchise because Ross' ownership is such a joke.

it's the Titans or Denver because the AFC south and west are both weak Divisions that can be win with a 10 or 11 win team you are not winning the AFC east with 11 wins because of the pats thats why Peyton did not want be play for the fish

Apparently Peyton is in Durham NC (which is about 20 minutes from me) to meet with the Bronco owner?

NFLN reported that the Fins are officially out of the running for Manning and that he's going to do a workout for the Broncos and Titans. Not sure about the Cards.

Didn't they say last Wednesday or Thursday he was going to decide within a week. Just make up your mind already.
