Mankins Update: agent says "deal cannot be worked out - we disagree"

Poor Logan, how can he settle for 7m/year when he has a family to feed?

^^Its not about that. According to the market rate, Mankins has been underpaid for about four years. Yes I know he signed a contract but.......

The guys proven himself to be a turnstyle in the playoffs, screw him and his agent.

Mankins has no need to settle for $7M a year.

It's apparent that this cokcroach is using Logan Mankins as a pawn to further his own media profile.

A professional wouldn't use the language he's using in an interview.

So how is this going to end....If we trade him O-line will be a mess.

I'm sure most agents would rather get paid than be professional. I mean, if Logan gets a $40M contract, that's $1.2M right to Bauer.

Agreed. This agent seems to be the main stumbling block between a deal getting done. I get the sense he made some big promises to Mankins, and now he can't back them up so he's going out of his way to try and blame Kraft.

No surprise here. The decision to tender Mankins as an RFA last season, instead of taking advantage of the uncapped year to craft a deal amenable to both sides, was destined to lead to bad blood.

Mankins is gonna make over $10 million next year, not a travesty. If Mankins really wanted a massive long term contract maybe he should not have had the worst game of his career in the biggest game of his career.

Yeah, one game in the 2007 season is how you should be evaluating him in 2011.

Some of you people... :bricks:

So it seems they did follow through on their offer to take care of him after the 2009 season, only Frank didn't like the numbers (once Evans deal hit the wires...).

Frank didn't think it was such a travesty when his client who was projected to go in the late second or even third round by his own admission got selected with that 32nd pick in the first by these bastards... They could have gone in another direction and let him land on some team with a revolving door QB and coaching staff and maybe he wouldn't be a two time pro bowler living the travesty of only having been given the opportunity to bank anywhere from $24-35M over the first 7 years of his career...for just showing up and doing his job.

Frank wouldn't know a travesty if one landed on him. He should send his resume to the NFLPA. They love some good rhetoric and that seems to be Frank's forte.

Mankins doesn't owe the Patriots anything; neither he nor his agent could control who drafted him, and there's no clause in any contract about gratefulness. If they're going to offer him a contract below market value, he'll find a place to play that the market is willing to pay him at. Arguing that the agent lacks professionalism is ridiculous - an agent's profession is to maximize his own income by maximizing that of his client's. There isn't anything remotely shady about this. Mankins is the best guard in the league - a fact that would be true no matter what team he played on - and deserves to be paid like it. If the Patriots aren't willing to do that, then we'll have to live with the consequences.

Not suprising. I think that given the two tags Mankins has received his agent needs to rework his strategy. I would come back to the table with an offer that was nearly entirely guaranteed money (know your client, right?) at a slightly lower rate than that of Evans. It would take care of the security issue, and would effectively maximize the earning potential of his client. People aren't too keen on doling out 12/yr to a 30 year old guard who hardly ever misses a snap.

Sorry but Mankins is not even close in the league of John Hannah....the two should not be mentioned in the same sentence.

Mankins is a good player but he isn't and never will be at Hannah's level as Bauer thinks.

This is one of the greatest guards they’ve had in the history of the place . . . John Hannah was the other one.

He's saying that Mankins is one of the two best guards the team's ever had, with Hannah being the other one. Unless you want to argue Sam Adams over Mankins, I don't see the problem here.

I think he meant Mankins in the best Pats G since Hannah

He's franchised, hes not going anywhere. I'm sick of Mankins and his agent. Mankins was offered a contract that put him in the top three gaurds as far as money goes. His post season play is not worthy of being paid that kind of money imo.

They tendered Mankins only after he refused their very lucrative offer. One that was close to what Jahri Evans received. Let's not change history now.

The Pats have shown that when you play out your contract and don't ask for silly, absurd money, they treat you damn well.. They've also shown that when you flap your gums to the media about the negotiations, they will just let you stew.
