I think this is a good idea and on a national level would be the right thing to do.

LePage: Maine will no longer waive food stamp work requirements

    http://www.pressherald.com/2014/07/23/lepage-proposes-work-requirement-for-food-stamps/

It's really tough to ague against a work requirement considering it exempts the disabled and those with dependents.

And it would balance out Bernie's bill nicely, wouldn't it?

I've always liked the idea of tying welfare (and like) benefits to work reeducation for the able-bodied. A lot of people lose their jobs due to outsourcing or some sort of other "disappearing act" for their skill set. In those cases, give them new skills that are relevant to today's work needs and put them back out there to earn money for them and their families. For those who have needed work skills, I favor a work requirement.

    What is the counterargument?

There aren't any Nik...which is why we likely won't get many comments from our liberals.

Just my gut feeling, so let's see.

If a parent has a healthy under-achieving child, do they offer sympathy and tell them its ok or do they get on their ass?

Jerry Springer show viewership will plummet and Attorneys who make their living off workmans comp injuries, asbestos/lead paint, whiplash from car accidents and carpal tunnel syndrome wont have an audience or new clients.

20-30 years ago, grocery stores used to be fairly empty during the week. Now you go there and everyone of all ages is shopping 7 days/week.

    Many using food stamps....

Not sure where you're coming from or going to, PR. The work requirement IS a national law (federal)

Individual states have been able to request a waiver since 2008, depending on the amount of unemployment in their state. They are also free to drop the waiver at any time.

The change will save approximately 4.4% of the food stamp benefit in the state of Maine.

Somalis are slowly turning Maine into Somalia.
The Bleeding Heart Goof Balls are now afraid to walk the streets of Lewiston late at night but the idiots still want to turn their city over to these people, moonbat is the perfect name for a liberal.
    News
There are Little Mogadishus all across America, but few places have been hit as hard by Somali Muslim migrants as Maine whose generous benefits system is struggling to cope with the Somali settlers.

Lewiston Mayor Robert E. MacDonald has written sharply about the Somali welfare invasion and its impact on Maine natives.

The liberals in Maine are TERRIFIED of this....Fighting tooth and nail to halt anything for welfare reform in our state.I personally KNOW 4 to 5 welfare recipients that are all in their early twenties that just keep the public money rolling in but do not work....Drinking and doing drugs are considered as healthy hobbies as far as the Maine liberals are concerned. And the law will only affect about 12,000 people anyway.....I don't give a crap if it affects only TWELVE people....Stop WASTING my money on deadbeats and illegal aliens!!!!Liberals have had control over Maine for so long that its considered NORMAL for our state to be fiscally broke.Lepage has been the best governor we ever have had.

By state's choice, yeah. The individual states are the ones who enforce the rules and request the waivers. If the state requests the waiver, it's on them. They're the one's who've decided to override the federal law.

Take a look at the number of states that have waivers....none should have them. and the law should be enforced in the same manner our immigration laws should be enforced.

In America it's what we do, Create Laws than never Enforce Them, Guns are the biggest example of this but of course there is a reason The Gun Laws aren't enforced, you all must know what that is (not politically correct to mention it)

The answer is simple...stop providing support to immigrant families. I know when my ancestors immigrated here, they didn't get any gov't support.

America does not invite to emmigrate here to live off taxpayers.

I know a woman in Mass in her mid 50"s who has never held a job in her life. Went through all kinds of training paid for by the state of Mass and never had enough ambition to get off her axx. Always had an excuse.

She sponges off the state puffing on cigs all day in subsidiesed housing pissing and moaning about her aches and pains. Now she claims to be in too poor of health to work.

Work is good for the soul. It keeps you out of trouble and give you a sense of purpose. These people should be doing something. Working for church ministries, charities etc. to serve others.
