    SEVEN rookies made the 53.

That is simply amazing to me.

(Mayo, Crable, Wheately, Wilhite, Slater, Guyton, O'Connell)

It's not beyond the realms of possibility that 5 of them will be contributing on gameday in one way or another. Hopefully (and it does seem so), it's a case of if you're good enough you're old enough, rather than if you're young enough you're good enough.

I like Guyton the most because he was undrafted. I think Crable will get a lot of playing time and we already know that Mayo and Wheatley are starting. I also like Slater on kickoffs so Hobbs can mentally prepare on the sidelines to give up pass after pass to 2nd and third tier recievers. I'm sorry, I had to throw that one in there. I can't stand Hobbs, he sucks.

Yeah, I wouldn't call it that. Their secondary probably couldn't stop a high school team. Oh, and their O-line sucks balls.

I think O'Connell will be the number 2 QB in 09.
I already feel better with him in there over Cassell.
FO drafted this guy in the third round when it seemed to me
they could have used another O lineman or TE but they
took O'Connell when they already have two back up qb's on the roster.
They must see a lot in this guy and we're starting to see it too.
I never worried he would be cut though others would differ.

Don't know enough about Guyton but I heard his name alot on the games so good for him for making the team.
Slater has been doing pretty well from what I've been reading here and he seemed to be a special player that BB likes so it was no surprise that he's make the 53.
I got a good feeling about Crable and think we're going to be seeing him a lot, especially in passing situations.
Of Course Mayo would have been a jail riot if he'd been cut.

Funny, THIS was the attitude on draft day:

I am totally embarrassed by this draft for this organization, and last year we were all hoping was a fluke. RK time for some draft board help.

Here is my prediction for two years from now. The QB from SDS makes the team because in another stroke of genius, we drafted Cassel who will be gone. Mayo and Crable will make it. That's it. The rest are gone. Any takers?

    Fellas, time for new scouts!

I guess the sky isn't falling after all. Maybe BB and SP have some idea what they are doing. But, to be fair, it was a TWO year "guarantee".

    No Mood

Now, see, I would difer with you. O'Connell was drafted because he was, in the eyes of the Patriots FO, the best athlete available when their turn came up. Coach has said over and over again that the emphasis is on picking the best available athlete over the needs of the team when the turn comes up. It doesn't mean that occasionally they will vary and actually pick an athlete that they have a need for, but in their minds, overall skills and athleticism trump the kid's position.

    Respects,

I can't believe that Cassel is still around. BB really knows how to piss off fans.

The guy didn't score a TD in 4 games. It's really shocking.

This has been a continuous discussion time and again. The Patriots do not draft by BPA. They do not draft based on need. They draft by VALUE. Which is a combination of BPA and NEED. That is how they have done their draft board for years. Belichick has never said they take the best available athelete regardless of need.

I saw it in game 1 ... the rookies that played then all looked special in terms of ability. Let's hope the coaches get them to the next level or 2.

The best part, and the reason why I love this team so much, they all earned it. Put up or get out.

All of the rookies plus Ventrone deserve it.

For this point of the discussion I will be a "glass half empty" guy. Having that many rookies make the team means only one thing.....we are very thin talent wise!! In the last few years it would have been inconcievable for 2 rookies to be STARTING on a BB defense. I suggest that their first 2 picks were NEED picks(and may pan out that way)as their FA colleagues couldnt beat em out(Hobson/Mayo, Wheatley/Bryant, Wilhite/Webster). What does this mean??
I would say that there wasnt a single player from last years roster who lost their job to a rookie, right? We lost a large number of free agents/salary cap cuts and the free agents we replaced them with either were outplayed or were futher salary cap casualties. To me this inbalance falls on the management not recognizing the value of our FAs compared to the ones available elsewhere. How many FAs we signed in the offseason actually made the team??
    Guys lost/replacements

    Seau/Mayo
    Colvin/Crable
    Samuel/Wheatley
    Gay/Wilhite
    Andrews/Sanders
    Stallworth/CJ Jones
    K.Brady/Spach
    Wilson/Lynch
    Eckel/Jordan

While its nice to get younger/cheaper(I think some of these cuts should leave $$ to resign guys like Vince to long term deals) there is no arguement that we LOST A TON OF TALENT this year.

I think that its more likely that Morris, Jones, Ventrone or Aiken are liable to get cut in the next few days than it is for Guyton, Wilhite or the other rookies to get cut.

we lost a TON of talent???using THAT table above???

uh...we lost Samuel...I'll give you that

Seau is 39, Colvin just got cut, Gay has been an injured 4th DB for the most part , Stallworth became almost invisible by last season's end.

    Andrews,Eckel,K. Brady????????

guess I'm gonna stick to glass half full...you should check your glass, it looks almost empty

Could be, although I'll stay with the idea of at least one more rookie getting the axe. I don't have a firm grasp on Belioli's thinking about the bottom of this order. I'm figuring on at least 3 players getting axed to bring in/back Faulk, Seau and a CB. An OL addition won't shock me, either.

Even with all the youth we still have great experience and talent in the middle ... except for Mayo' youth which could fool the league, the entire middle on both sides is very strong.
