Looking @ the current roster by position...

Find it hard to believe BB is going to allow a rookie, whose strengths are at g/c, to protect Bradys blind side. Dont think we'll be seeing much of thuney at lt. Solder is an above-average lt. Dont think youll see much of him at te-you got the greatest blocking te in history with gronk plus bennet whose one of the best blocking tes in the league. and oh yeah, they can both catch the ball now and then. Otherwise, i agree with rest. i think cooper has a shot at taking jacksons job.

For OL, I think Andrews is a goner as long as Stork projects to be healthy. A couple of the others, like Mason and Thuney are supposed to be getting work at center as well, and there is no room for a guy who plays only one position unless he is a Pro-Bowler.

I actually like the thuney pick. Think he can be a very good interior player at all 3 positions. But strictly super-emergency backup at t. Mason is going to be a stud imo. same with stork if he can stay healthy. since we're on the ol-people forget too quickly how solid cannon was at rt 2 years ago. Hes right now hands down the best backup t on the team, even at lt, where he looks out of position. OL depends on continuity- there was none last year. with solder and vollmer, both above -average at their positions, healthy, everything else falls into place. I think Pats fans will be shocked at how well the OL plays this year-and how much better our running game will be. Brady will have all day to to throw for the 1st time in years. Thats my bold prediction. And that means ring #5.

I believe there are currently 93 players supposedly on the Pats roster (UDFA signings have yet to be announced/made official). I'm guessing Cardona gets put on some inactive list. Assuming all of the UDFAs are signed, who else gets cut?

Slater has been a gr8 ST ace for quite a while, and people looking to cut him always seem to undervalue ST contributions, but I am starting to wonder how much longer Slater will have a guaranteed roster spot.

We've had recent additions like Brandon King, we have Ebner, and we added a couple of more draftees who look to be possible core STers.

I guess the answer is that Slater is still safe for now, but I can now imagine a time in the next 2-3 years where the Pats will move on from Slater, once his skills start to erode.

Fun fact: Slater was selected to the 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 Pro Bowl as a special teamer. It's almost like other teams don't even have ST specialists.

In 3 years he'll be 33. Probably will lose some speed.

Congrats to Slater for being premptively selected 2016 Pro Bowler.

My Roster.

QB 3 - Brady Garo Brissett (I don't think we trade Garo this year unless Brissett shows he is ready. I don't think he will.
RB/FB 5 - Lewis White Bolden Blount Develin - Brown is a hard cut and Foster will be too. Hope he makes the PS as i really do like the player. Great Lewis back up plan as they are very similar.
OL 9 - Solder Vollmer Waddle Cannon Stork Thuney Mason Jackson Cooper - Kline and particularly Andrews are hard cuts here. Kline is maxed out and decent. We can do better and I wish him the best. He will stick somewhere. Andrews is a hard, hard player to let walk. Maybe the hardest cut this year. Particularly with Stork's history.
WR 5 - Edelman Amendola Hogan Mitchell Martin - Washington could easily take this spot but I have Martin taking it for now.
TE 3 - Gronk Bennett Harbor - Pretty much set.

DT 4 - Brown Branch Knighton Valentine - Some Vet DTs could try to force their way on.
DE/Edge 5 - Nink Sheard Long Flowers Grissom - Rufus will be interesting to watch.
LB - 5 - Hightower Collins McCellin Freeney E. Roberts - The last 2 are hard to predict. I just like them.
CB 5 - Butler Ryan C. Jones Coleman J. Jones - 5th guy is a guess of course
S 5 - McCourty Chung Harmon Richards Ebner - Ebner makes it due to STs.

STs 4 - Gost, Allen Slater LS (IDK who)

Notes.

Hardest cuts are Andrews, Washington, Rufus J., Brown, D. Roberts

Again an UDFA makes it and I pick Jonathan Jones - CB.

I expect 2nd year jumps from Grissom who did little last year but will have a role as a pass rushing DT on 3rd down if he can take it.

Waddle is the answer for 3rd OT for this year i think. He is above Cannon IMO.

I'm thinking Valentine may be a guy the Pats look to send to IR so that he can get his body ready to go for next year when we need him.

He has an injury history.

Sourced from Wikipedia, for better or worse. I'm guessing they date them by the year they are played in vs. the season they are in.

Cardona might not be eligible this year.

Could be.

He actually would have a bit of trade value, as a somewhat competent starting center who still is very cheap.

Why spend a 3rd Rd pick on a guy who has to be put on IR?

That is what they were looking at with Jaylon Smith if, as reported, the Pats planned to pick him if he slid to them.

Sometimes the talent is worth it.

Not saying that is their plan with Valentine, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Solder is really still the LT it is an unbalanced line.

Solder - Thuney - Mason - Stork - Cooper - Vollmer

He is like 21 or 22 years old I would hope you could get himself in shape by the end of July.

That's why I wish BB would just list Matthew Slater as Safety and call is a Day.
I wish that you guys would start listing guys like Slater and Ebner as Special Teamers, and call it a day.

I agree with almost all your comments with regard to places on the roster. E Roberts? I give that spot to one of our top STers Brandon King.

Obviously anything can happen with last 6 or 7 roster spots.

Solder - Thuney - Mason - Stork - Cooper - Vollmer

So which skill position player are you dropping? We're almost certainly looking at significant 2-TE sets (excluding Solder) which means you either only have one WR or sacrifice a RB.
