guess tabloids need to put something on their front page, today's print edition says something to the effect "They're Busted". Jay Fitzgerald, think he is a business writer not a sports writer, plays the damage to the Pats Marketing and BB marketing angle. Just more venom, just more negative press.. guess it is a boring time and there is nothing else to report on.. btw Papi hit a walkoff last night..

A new adjective could be added in front of the word “genius” that’s so often used to describe Patriots [team stats] coach Bill Belichick: “cheating genius.”

And if that word sticks, it could damage the coach’s image and marketability in coming years, sports marketing and business management experts say.

Belichick’s hard-earned reputation as a winner was sacked for a loss this week after a Patriots assistant got busted videotaping New York Jets [team stats] sideline signals during Sunday’s game.

Stephen A. Greyser, a marketing professor at Harvard Business School, said much depends on what the National Football League ultimately says and does about charges that the Pats broke league rules.

“If the words ‘cheating’ and ‘Bill Belichick’ are in the same sentence in an NFL statement, it could have a substantial negative impact for the brand value” of Belichick, said Greyser.

The Superbowl-winning coach has nowhere near the number of lucrative marketing contracts that his star quarterback Tom Brady [stats] has signed over the years. But Belichick does make thousands of dollars giving speeches and appearing at events, industry sources say.

The Pats coach has been praised as one of football’s greatest. Books have been written about him, including the late David Halberstam’s “The Education of a Coach” and local radio-talkmeister Michael Holley’s “Patriot Reign.”

But his image as a gridiron “genius” - and thus his future image and marketability - could be harmed if it’s proven he cheated to win, said Bruce Clark, an associate professor at Northeastern University’s College of Business Administration.

Damage his marketability? Then I guess he'll have no other choice than to stay on for another 5 to 10.

We may come out of this sitting in tall cotton after all. :D

This just pales in comparison to what Jason Smith spouted on his All Night ESPN radio program. He opened his program at 11 PM pacific time by talking about how Tom Brady could barely beat out Drew Henson at Michigan and now its not so mysterious how he has become the game's best at reading defenses and making the quick reads.

Jason Smith 1:35 AM Pacific Time "I've watched every Michigan game for the last 15 years. He was smart. he was ok but had a hard time holding onto the starting job.

All of a sudden you wonder...why is TB that good? The guy was obscure when he was drafted. And now - hey - he is a star."

He also had Mel Kiper on who did defend the Pats to some extent.

Henson had alot of promise, and could have well been a stud QB in Dallas-however, the worst thing Parcells did was yank him at halftime in that '04 T-Giving game against the Bears(and put back an injured Vinny)-otherwise, the score was only 7-7(and it WAS his first start to boot). If anything, it probably damanged his long-term confidence.

I gotta tell you, on the first read that honestly took my breath away that another human being could jump to those conclusions. Wow...just wow.
