Hey all ... I know many of you get this via the great web site www.bostonsportsmedia.com every week, but thought I would post the link here as well. It's my weekly "10 Things We Learned Yesterday" column, an extensive look back at that week's game. You can find it every week on the Metro site. Here's the link to this week's edition:

Metro - 10 Things We Learned Yesterday

    Thanks!
    Chris

Nice one Chris, thanks for giving the link.

One request (and I apologize in case you have already done it and I missed it): is it possible to add your insight on how our safeties performed following Rodney's absence?

I know it was a devastating blow the last time it occured but hope that the coaches had that in mind when developing schemes and training Merriweather/Sanders for this year. Want to know if that was the case or not.

    Thanks,

First, thanks for the nice words on the column everyone. I'll make sure it's posted here every Sunday night/Monday morning. Now, as for the safeties, I think they did a pretty good job on Sunday. I have yet to watch a tape of the game -- going to do that tomorrow -- but my first thought was they didn't do anything to draw attention to themselves in a good or a bad way. And I think that's a good thing. I will say I think more pressure is on Sanders -- he's been here longer, and he will be asked to assume more of a leadership role with Rodney out.

Thanks for the feedback Chris. It will be wonderful if you can confirm or add more to it, especially on Sanders played that crucial role, once you watch the tape.

Your points on various small things that the average fans can't/don't notice help us appreciate the nuances of the game. It will be worthwhile to read that before guys like me happily thrash the players for their 'no-effort', 'poor-tackling' etc. :)

I do check BSMW and your column is one of the ones I look for. Don't mind at all seeing you post a link here, since I was busy yesterday and missed it. In fact, it's a better discussion lead-in than most of the threads in the main board (though that has improved a whole lot lately -- not sure if that's because of 2 wins or Ian and the mods pruning threads).

Some aspect of Cassel's play will likely be one of your 10 things every week -- he's the story of the season -- so I wonder if a good storyline at some point might be the development of his ability to look around. Lately, Cassel has focused first on Welker, then on Moss. Faulk, of course, is the first read on certain plays. Will he get enough time and have the presence against the Colts to get to his third read? Is he getting better at looking off safeties, at finding all his receivers. By the end of the season, can we expect Gaffney, Watson, Thomas, et al, to get more receptions per game?

    Patsfan37,

Thanks for the nice words. I did notice that about Cassel -- his ability to find his second and third (and even fourth option) is really starting to become noticeable, especially after the Chargers game. However, I thought Cassel's first fourth-quarter comeback was a bigger story on Sunday. But rest assured, if Cassel continues to progress, it will be "10 Things..." point some time during the season. I do think more receivers will start to get more catches, especially the tight ends (as long as they remain healthy).

I'd be willing to bet Faulk and Watson start to climb "oh crap, we need to cover them too" meter for other teams in the weeks to come. The Pats need to make teams expect Ben to block and then burn them with a late route, imo.

You know, you would think so, especially about Faulk. You would also think that some team would figure out after a while that you can't put a linebacker on Faulk in pass coverage.

I appreciate the link a lot as my time to haunt the board has been harder to find this year. Another fine job Chris - when you watch film do you get access to coach's tape or do you join us DVR warriors behind the TV camera?
