Matt Light and Tom Brady were at practice today according to Mike Reiss ... a very good sign.

Wes Welker walked through the locker room while the media was presnt but declined to talk. Perhaps another good sign.

    Re: Light at practice today

Glad my hunch that BB was merely holding Light out to keep him fresh seems to be coming true ... now if they can just find a competent body to plug in to the RG spot until Neal returns ...

"Wes Welker is not walking through that dooor!!"

wait, wrong chat board... That is all very good news. Maybe felger will shutup on weei now about how the pats are doomed becuase they don't have a good backup qb. While Brady has been QB here, the backup has not been an issue.

    Re: Light at practice today

I doubt that was at all the case..I think Light has been injured..and he's better now..If you can find ANY shred of evidence that CoachB was holding him out for rest..please show it. So..instead of getting an O line in synch he kept Light out to rest him?? I doubt it....If it was for a day a practice here there..yes THAT I do believe and makes sense..and also, I am sure they are extra cautious as well in the preseason regarding injuries..but keeping a player out for 3 weeks?? I don't think so.

    Re: Light at practice today

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that Light was 100% healthy and held out; rather, I had previously speculated that he was a little banged up (i.e. "not serious") and rather than expose him to more contact even though he probably could have practiced, BB simply held him out knowing he'd be ready to go to start the season.

    Re: Light at practice today

Yates is back, too. Our Week 1 OL as of now:

    LT: Light
    LG: Mankins
    C: Koppen
    RG: Yates
    RT: Kaczur

Love the leftside, rightside scares me. Yates has been brutal, and Kaczur has been surprisingly subpar himself.

    Re: Light at practice today

Well, there seems to be some truth to it. I think Light was actually injured, but reports last week were that Light was in the lockerroom and itching to get back. I think he was held out the last week eventhough he could have practiced.

    Re: Light at practice today

Light coming back can actually help the right side of the line. Now Koppen can lend assistance to that side on some plays because Light and Mankins can tie up an extra man.

    Re: Light at practice today

True, good call. Particularly good call considering Koppen has not seemed quite his effective self so far and that's probably the reason why - Light's absence affects the whole line.

Wait... you don't despise Kaczur and think he's got the O-Line skills of Paul Reubens? Wow.

I like Nick for two reasons:

    1. He's from a town like 25 minutes away (which makes him Canadian, eh), and it's got greatness all over the place. That town also birthed the telephone and Wayne Gretzky.
    2. He's a GOOD football player with versatility. He's not starting because there's no competition available. He's starting because he's versatile and he plays well enough to go unnoticed. Which usually means he makes a prime candidate for "whipping boy" when he's knocking the rust off or playing injured.

    Re: Light at practice today

I agree, that's probably what happened.

Let's see, Pro Bowl left tackle is back, without alot of wear and tear on his wheels from camp. Ditto, our All World QB. Welker may not be THAT injured. I'm startin' to get pumped my brothas and sistas.

    Re: Light at practice today

I thought that Kazcur would be an excellent right tackle a few years ago. Remember when he came in after Light went out for the season in 05'? I thought Kaczur did a solid job at LT that season. I think he will be okay at RT if all of the offseason distractions are behind him.

In 06', I also thought Yates (vikings game) and Britt (bengals game) did alright when they started also. Seems like those two have regressed based on this years preseason play. I still think O'Callaghan has some promise too.

I don't think our OL is as big a problem as some people say. One bad game. Remember two weeks before they held the ball for 9+ minutes vs the Chargers to seal the game.

    Re: Light at practice today

I agree, I like all 3 of our young tackles, Kaczur, O'Cal and Britt. I agree Kaczur was great filling in for Light at LT in his rookie season and he's been a solid RT ever since, [though I did argue for selecting Clady going into the season, and potentially moving Kaczur to RG in Neal's absence]. Hopefully his ineffectiveness thus far is not indicative of how his regular season will go. He'll probably be just fine, as Jsn said above, its just "knocking the rust off" and Kaczur had a troubled offseason, so it might take him more time to accomplish that.

Yates has also looked good in the past, but has struggled so far in exhibition games.

    Re: Light at practice today

Small point: Kaczur is not just coming off a troubled year, but he's also rehabbing from an addiction. I'm sure full-swing is just what he needs to kick the shakes.

    Re: Light at practice today

No doubt, a great point that has been somewhat lost along the way [in terms of the coverage of the Kaczur pills story].
