In case anybody still has to wonder about how detached and aloof most of the media "talents" live, here's Dave Letterman squeezing out a half-arsed attempt at an apology for his piling on hate-mongering toward Sarah Palin (and, by extension, those who like her).

It's been obvious for decades but now it all comes out now clear as rain: Letterman is a total jerk. A butt-head if there ever was one.

Letterman re-addresses Palin: 'I had no idea [Willow] was there'

    June 15, 2009

David Letterman re-addressed the controversy surrounding his jokes about Sarah Palin's family during the taping of CBS' "Late Show" on Monday.

Letterman said he had no idea Palin was at the Yankees game with her 14-year-old daughter, Willow, when he joked about her getting "knocked up" by player Alex Rodriguez last week.

"I had, honestly, no idea that the 14-year-old girl, I had no idea that anybody was at the ball game except the governor, and I was told at the time she was there with Rudy Giuliani," Letterman said (direct video link). "It’s not your fault that it was misunderstood, it’s my fault. ... So I would like to apologize, especially to the two daughters involved, Bristol and Willow, and also to the governor and her family and everybody else who was outraged by the joke."

If the right discontinued the inordinate attention to the left coast media, would anyone notice???? There are only so many ways to beat a dead horse, the infatuation with all things that are perceived to be some type of political message, when all they are is entertainment serves to perpetuate and validate a who gives a f.. message.

Who benefits from all this.. Letterman and Palin.. neither of whom will make any serious decisions that will effect my life.

It's always interesting that when a more "conservative" person is mocked, denigrated, laughed at, or otherwise treated like shiit, to some it is "no big deal", it "doesn't affect" their lives.

Yet, if the person being mocked, denigrated, laughed at or otherwise treated like shiit is from the left side of the spectrum, THEN it suddenly becomes a "hate crime", it is a "phobia", it is worthy of Congressional committees and judges saying "Well, if the legislatures won't address this issue I will legislate from the bench".

It's very revealing how a hypocritical two-faced standard raises its ugly head whenever a more conservative person steps out onto the big stage.

A knee jerk patterned response, Letterman has a select audience.. as do many of these people, most people outside of this circle do not give a rats ass about what happens in this venue.. however, whenever there is something negative or derogatory about the right wing the subsequent righty response is lets get our depends in a bunch hysteria ensues..

Everyday folks like Rush, Hannity, O'Reilly and the rest of the right wing crew say very derogatory and demeaning things, but this is the norm.. when the exception happens, see Letterman, then a shytstorm ensues.. bottom line, despite what you think, no one really cares.. and all that happens is that Letterman gets better ratings and Palin has more face time..

None of this is hypocrisy, you belief that the right is the way, truth and the light and never say anything bad about us.. and it is none of that.. Letterman should not have said what he did, but this shelf life and continuation is completely unneccessary. The hypocrisy lies in ignoring the vicious right wing press and their never ending battle against all things that does not agree with their next savior... all the while the next savior does not have the talent or intelligence to do much of anything except create the next shytstorm..

The democrats and the nasty left wing are obsessed with Sarah Palin if they wern't this whole thing would never have happened Letterman is the one who started it all and Letterman just boosted her higher in the public eye, every decent parent in America was disgusted with that Old Man Letterman and his attempt to be funny and suck up to the Democrat Palin Haters, no it isn't the Conservatives or me that keeps Palins name in the papers it's the "horrible frightened jealous democrats" Palin is one of the biggest threats they have on the horizon right now and they in all their childish hatred are making her even bigger.

The dried up old man Letterman should retire, take all his money and go down to Bermuda and go swimming with President Jug Ears Gitmo Muslims.

Letterman apologized, she accepted. I think both parties should be satisfied. Time to move on I hope.

    Really...
Never seen such a tempest in a teapot.

..."It’s not your fault that it was misunderstood, it’s my fault. ... So I would like to apologize, especially to the two daughters involved, Bristol and Willow, and also to the governor and her family and everybody else who was outraged by the joke." ...

If the OP doesn't consider that an apology, then what is? Get a life!

Exactly. This was the only problem I had with this situation. I always side with free speech, especially in comedy contexts. I heard Olbermann refer to Palin as a "delusional maniac" for wanting an apology, but he was calling for Imus to be fired. Weird! Shows what a partisan hack douche he is.

But I digress. I thought it was dumb that people were calling for Letterman to apologize (except Palin, I can see that since it was her daughter), and even dumber that people wanted him fired. But if this same joke was done about the Obama daughters, boy would there be a media crapstorm. That's the only gripe I had with the situation.

It's much ado about nothing. A tempest in a teapot, as wistah said best. Hopefully it's done.

Not so. I watch MSNBC every morning for a half hour or so before work and parts of the Letterman's Palin routine(s), feigned apologies and finally his somewhat sincere apology is always covered. Then they go about the business of tearing Palin down while giving Letterman the benefit of the doubt. They even give long segments to guests like the liberal Ariana Huffington for example to help them belittle and ridicule Sarah. There is hardly a person from the left more politically motivated than she so I don't see how you can blame this non-stop Sarah in the news attention solely on the right. There is one voice though that is squarely in Palin's corner and that comes from Mika Brzezinski (liberal), who is genuinely outraged at what Letterman said and doesn't blame Palin for her outrage.

It's a front page on msn.com, yahoo.com, cnn.com etc. so it seems the main stream left contributing at least as much as the right is that the right

Aha!! I knew it!! The truth drips out, drop by drop.

    .... drip...... drip....... drip

(Psssst: did you hear?? The media is dominated by left-wing atheists who won't let a decent conservative get face time without slamming said conservative with everything in the arsenal. Pass it on.

    OK, I will. Peace, out.)

Shows what a gullible old fool you are, one piece of evidence makes everything different..:rolleyes::rolleyes:

The reality is that most people do not listen or really give a damn.. but in the perception of the right everything small becomes big..

All the while the death of Tiller has been justified by Rush, O'Reilly and the rest of this crew with no reproach..

Protests today in NYC they want Letterman Fired.

If Jeb Bush said that any Female Democrat in America looked like a Slutty Flight Attendent he would have been thrown out of the country, Letterman should have the same punishment Don Imus had.

Dave Letterman is stinking piece of sh!t, I'd like to see what kind of a slut his wife looks like, does the old bastard have any daughters of his own.

TAKE HIS VIAGRA AWAY FROM HIM

I don't think he believes in marriage, unless maybe he caved in recently. He had a woman stalker, though. She used to walk into his home in Connecticut when he was away and leave love letters. She got sent to a mental hospital, obviously.

And what's the left's fascination with Palin? The race is over. Long over. And the cool dude won. It's as bad as Leno still making McCaine is so old jokes. Luckily he's gone for now.

And he can't even apologize right. I guess he has to appease his base. He's competing with Stuart for the young "Aren't I wonderful I only hate Republicans and Christians" crowd. He even got caught up in his lies but, the Pravada... I mean the MSM won't pick up on it. He said at one point I checked before we did the joke to make sure she was 18 and then later says he thought only the governor and Giuliani were there. He's such a douche. I can't believe I use to watch his show. Around the same time he changed form wearing athletic shoes to loafers is around the time he stopped being funny or even amusing.

Palin continually puts herself out there on the national stage.. what Letterman did was wrong and her daughter should have never been put into the equation... her eternal quest for more face time allows for her to always be in the spotlight.. she has turned into a media whore.. the right is as infatuated as is the left, but everytime the right frames her the byline is look at what the bad press is doing to poor Sarah.. Sarah does it to herself, she is getting ready to run again, it is a long campaign cycle.

BTW Palin accepted his apology.. but this will get played out ad infinitum...
