Here is the player rankings from Pro Football Weekly as of 4/11/08.

    http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/NFLDraft/Player+Rankings/2008/AllPositions.htm

First make your Patriots draft picks using the player rankings. You can pick any player ranked AT or BELOW the Patriots picks. NO Trades. here are the Patriots picks currently:

    PATRIOTS 7 62 69 94 129 164 197 238

After you have made your picks in accordance with the above you can do another with trades as long as the trades equal the value chart.

To be clear: At #7 you can pick any player ranked at #7 or ranked below #7. at 62 you can pick any player ranked #62 or below but not ranked above #62. ect , ect

I'll be back with my picks later.

Pats trade 7 to the 'Boys for 22 and 28. The 'Boys badly want McFadden, so they take him, the Pats get bigger bang for their buck.

Also, we trade 62 and 69 to the Falcons for 37, they have many needs and would love to get some more picks in a deep draft.

    22. Mike Jenkins, CB, USF- best CB available, fills need
    28. Jerod Mayo, ILB, Tenn- best cover LB in the draft, rising for a reason
    37. Cliff Avril, OLB, Purdue- Colvin's replacement?
    94. Durant Brooks, P, Georgia Tech- bit of a reach, but we need a better punter
    129. Anthony Collin, OT, Kansas- great value

    No Trades:

    #7. D. McFadden RB Arkansas
#62. J. Barrett SS Arizona St.
    #69. Charles Godfrey CB/FS Iowa
#94. Philip Wheeler ILB Georgia Tech
    #129. Marcus Howard OLB Georgia

This is not at all how I think the draft would go but with these constraints I consider this to be the best possible situation for the Pats, trade McFadden later for players and not for the picks.

    Trades:

Pats trade 7 to the 'Boys for 22 and 28. The 'Boys badly want McFadden, so they take him, the Pats get bigger bang for their buck.

Also, we trade 62 and 69 to the Falcons for 37, they have many needs and would love to get some more picks in a deep draft. (Yes I just stole this scenario from mavfan, but I like it.)

    #22. Jerod Mayo ILB Tennessee
    #28. Patrick Lee CB Auburn
#37. Cliff Avril/Groves OLB Purdue/Auburn (whichever floats your boat)
    #94. Carl Nicks OT Nebraska
#129. Jack Ikegwuonu CB Wisconsin (worth the risk)

If we had these picks this is how I would want the draft to go, I picked all of the players slightly before their ranking

Truly one of the worse prospect rankings I've seen yet. That said:

    7 Derrick Harvey
    62 Antoine Cason
    69 Chris Johnson
    94 Ahtyba Rubin
    129 Terrence Wheatley
    164 Stanford Keglar

    238 Jonathan Goff

When the draft process began, I was very interested in DHarvey, like many others, after watching his college career. But at 270 lbs he is not an explosive athlete. He ran a 4.84 and 4.94 at the combine, with a slow 1st 10 yards, a meagre VJ, among the lowest of all DE prospects.

People seem to forget that his effort was very spotty last season, even more so than Gholston's. Now we're going to draft him at #7, ask him to lose weight or tranform his body, transition to a new position, learn the Pats complex scheme...

Doesn't that make you nervous? If I were a 4-3 team I would consider him in the mid 20s. Otherwise, DHarvey's too much of a risk for me.

Albert was my original choice, but couldn't get the edge rusher I wanted later on, based on these stupid rankings (and with no trades). In addition, had to sneak in some of my other favorites as well.

I'm not completely sold on Harvey yet -- but I'm not ruling him out either. The DE/OLB position is extremely difficult to evaluate especially when considering their LB responsibilities. Only the Pats scouts and coaches KNOW (or think they know), if a player can make that conversion. Fans like you and I only guess -- huge difference.

In the real deal, there's only one player I'd draft at #7. Chances are he'll be gone, therefore trading down to draft a CB. Bet you can't guess who these two players are.

Anyway, this is not my mock, as I'm just playing a game. BTW, when are you going to participate?

I didn't want to be repetitive. It seems like I keep repeating my opinions on this board, and it must be boring to anyone who takes the trouble to read them. I started a thread called "Multiple Personality Mocks" using the PFW draft chart earlier in the week.

BTW, I wasn't trying to be hypercritical, I'm genuinely interested in your opinion on these issues.

    #62 Antoine Cason, CB
    #69 Red Bryant, DT

    #129 Curtis Johnson, OLB
    #164 Darius Reynaud, RB/WR
    #197 Jonathan Goff, LB
    #238 Joey Haynos, TE

Weird with the 2 CBs at the top, but overall some good talent, I think.

    #12 Leodis McKelvin, CB
    #42 Quentin Groves, OLB
    TRADE

    #60 Ray Rice, RB
    #94 Ahtyba Rubin, DT
    #129 Jack Ikegwuonu, CB
    #164 Stanford Keglar, LB
    #197 Jonathan Goff, LB
    #238 Joey Haynos, TE

What made you take the plunge with McKelvin? I haven't reached that point yet. Athletically he meets every criteria, I just have a bias against small school cbs. Everything else is fantastic, except I have no idea who Curtis Johnson is. That's my problem.

I love playing this game for some reason, gives you a good feel for the draft, can't wait for new prospect rankings so we can do it again.

    7. Branden Albert OG/OT Virginia
    62. Antoine Cason CB Arizona
    69. Charles Godfrey CB Iowa
    94. Chevis Jackson CB LSU
    129. Marcus Howard OLB Georgia
    164. Jonathan Goff ILB Vanderbilt
    197. Ezra Butler OLB Nevada
    238. Derek Fine TE Kansas

I'd be very happy with this draft, we would get a starter at either RG/RT who could develop a few years until we are ready to move Light to RT. All three CB fit the system and play special teams/return kicks. We would be set for years with this trio. The three LB would add depth and though Butler apparently has a weed problem, with a sixth round pick and considering his experience in the 3-4, he would be well worth the pick.

    7 CB Leodis McKelvin Troy
    62 DT Dre Moore Maryland
    69 CB Antoine Cason Arizona
94 P Durant Brooks Georgia Tech
129 ILB James "Beau" Bell UNLV
    164 OLB Stanford Keglar Purdue
    197 ILB Jonathan Goff Vanderbilt
    238 CB Jonathan Hefney Tennessee

The offense will be just fine...
