Aren't the liberals always proudly proclaiming on their high horse how accepting and tolerant of diversity they are...? Here's a sample of the "tolerance" we see in here by the local liberals.

Of course, the ultra-liberal moderator hasn't even lifted a finger to do anything about any of this disgusting bigotry, but that's besides the point. I get banned for saying "One knee equals two feet" but the following is perfectly aceptable:

    "the Bible is bullsh-t"

"I don't understand why you'd waste a second of your life making up and believing in stories about the existence of imaginary things."

"I believe that Christianity will fade into oblivion in the future"

"There is no god or gods any more than there are magical bunnies or enchanted sea monsters."

"The evangelicals are attempting to turn the entire nation into a radical Christian nation. They have no respect for those of any other religious persuasion."

"Of course QuiGon, who admires the Nazi Pope"

As an author of one of those quotes, I'll answer.

I don't understand what is so bigoted about me stating this?

"I don't understand why you'd waste a second of your life making up and believing in stories about the existence of imaginary things."

I don't understand your thinking. And it is your thinking. It is not your color or your gender, it is your thoughts and I don't understand them. I called the belief in god to be a belief in imaginary things. If you don't think god is imaginary, defend that point. Give me any type of fact or proof that god exists.

If you feel it is bigoted to call into question someone's thoughts, I don't know what to tell you. Maybe you shouldn't participate in a open forum.

oh, and I don't think it is even remotely close to what gets said about atheists. In fact, the pope just pretty much declared all atheists evil. Is that bigoted?

oh...I'm also not a left wing liberal. That's an attempt at slander. You should be careful about slandering people. (I assume you use "left wing liberal" as an insult, but maybe I've misinterpreted you. In either case, I'm not a left wing liberal or what I think you mean by it.)

Well, this is certainly not an open forum... but, to address your point, a rational discussion and query into what others think, why they think it, etc, is not bigoted. Constant condescension, attacks and ridicule of others for what they think is.
Well, you're going to have to share with us the exact quote and context (preferably with URLs) if you want me to respond to that... not give a ridiculously vague statement like "the pope just pretty much declared all atheists evil".

Heh heh heh... while I love the fact that you consider it slanderous to be called a "liberal" (your words, not mine) you're just going to have to live with the idea that if someone walks like a duck and talks like a duck, I'm going to call them a duck.

Well, until Patters comes in here and declares that calling someone a "liberal" is now considered a personal attack and a bannable offense...

Ok, maybe you shouldn't engage in discussion of any form if you don't like your thoughts being called into question. But again, what exactly was bigoted about my statement?

What part of "condescension, attacks and ridicule of others for what they think" was unclear...?
OK, you obviously don't know proper debate, so let me assist: If you have a point to make, you should make the point and, if necessary, support the point. You can't just throw an entire encyclical out there and say "well what do you think of this..?!?"

Are there specific points contained therein you want me to address...? If so, I will be glad to do so, but it is quite disingenuous to throw out an entire link and say "respond to this!"

You appear to use "liberal" and "left wing" as insults as I stated in my post, even though I've never seen you define your understanding of those terms. If I've misinterpreted you (like I pointed out in my post), my apologies.

So let's clear the air, what is your definition of "a liberal" and do you mean it as an insult?

Defining a liberal is like trying to define porn: Tough to put in words, but I know it when I see it.

Do I mean it as an insult...? Well, I don't exactly hold liberals in high esteem but that doesn't necessarily mean it is an insult. Only you can decide whether or not to be insulted by that word.

It was unclear how it applies to my post. I just said I don't understand it. And seriously, are you trying to say you don't engage in "condescension, attacks and ridicule of others for what they think"?

You asked for a link and I gave you one. If you want specifics, I gave you enough in the first post. I'm certainly not going to read any part of the encyclical, I'll just leave it with the interpretations others have already provided.

similar to how we feel about having to define a compassion-lacking, elitist Con man... we know it when we see it, or hear it squawk about Welfare, TWOT, or the Clintons... the latter of which was as much a part of the Empire as their current heroes in office...

    Putting On My Moderator's Hate

If you have issues with the way this forum is moderated, take it up with one of the moderators or try posting those issues in the Patsfan Pub. This is a political forum and the purpose of this forum is to discuss issues. None of those items violate the rules of the forum, except maybe the first one which is broadly offensive, perhaps, to all Christians. But, as you well know, we let the isolated violation slide.
