Peter Sirmon 7 Year veteran LB formerly of the Titans seems like a good athlete at a position we are in need of and looks to be a decent pickup for anyone before training camp starts.

I don't believe he has yet to find a team and turned down the Cardinals offer as recent as a few weeks ago.

I am surprised we have yet to speak to him,Unless his ACL problem he had a few years ago is being questioned now.

Would he make depth a little better even if Seau returns? - I think he may be as good or better insurance than what we have with Izzo,Mays,Woods and Alexander as backups right now - for some reason I worry about those 4 being able to play well if needed.

Bruschi is getting long in the tooth (read slow) Vrabel, Thomas, Colvin Seau

Yeah I would be all for Sirmon.

The rest of our depth is garbage.

We usually carry 9 or 10, including Sters.

    LINEBACKERS (9-10)

    OLB: Colvin, Thomas, Woods
    ILB: Bruschi, Seau, Vrabel
    ST: Izzo
room for 2-3: Alexander, Mays, Lua

Somehow, I think it POSSIBLE that there are players out there we could consider who MIGHT be able to beat out ONE of the bottom three in Training Camp.

my point is that every time someone gets cut there is a post saying we should sign him. with the addition of seau our depth is good and you want to build a roster with some youth at the position, woods, alexander, mays ,lau, rogers, bissinger, hopefully 3 will emerge for back up rolls and special teams

I knew what your point was but after the top five we have no proven LB, it's not unreasonable that we would sign a veteran. Maybe they like Woods, Lua and Rogers enough, fine, but available veteran LB are more than a passing interest to us.

Theres very many people with exceptions like you who don't think Seau will play in a semi starting role for the whole season if one of the other guys gets injured..Hes like 39 now right? - Don't expect him to be playing anywhere near as much as he was last year, Legendary LB or not,Seau's age is likely to show as the season wears on..Why not more security at the position? - I just don't think I feel secure with no real experience at that area - Sirmon has 7 years

Wow, I can't believe this guy thinks he's in a postion to turn down an offer from any team. The name sounded familiar and I thought I remembered him as a pretty decent LB. His stats say differently. Maybe he was a really good college LB that just never panned out in the NFL...or maybe he was one of those mediocre LBs that always had all pro games against me in Madden. :D

Don't forget that Barry Gardner is still lurking around. He could be that added vet FA LB that would provide more vet competition for us

Am I alone in thinking that Bruschi is going to have a great year?

Yes, the latest medical word I read on him was he was rehabbing more in terms of every day quality of life. It's probable his NFL days are a thing of the past, unfortunately....

Last year at the end of the season when pretty much everyone agreed we were thin in terms of quantity and quality depth, we had:

    Eric Alexander ILB
    Tully Banta-Cain OLB
    Tedy Bruschi ILB
    Rosevelt Colvin OLB
    Larry Izzo ILB
    Corey Mays ILB UR
    Mike Vrabel OLB
    Pierre Woods OLB

Additionally the following players were previously on the roster but were placed on IR

    Don Davis ILB
    Barry Gardner ILB
    Junior Seau OLB

So that's 11 guys who were on the 53 man roster at one time or another last year.

Now personally I 'm thinking that Oscar Lua might surprise some folks but generally all our rookies and UFAs at LB should be considered practice squad material - and maybe they can play a role on special teams or contribute later in the season following injuries.

But we DEFINATELY can bring in more veteran LB competition especially now.

Thomas, Vrabel, Bruschi and Colvin will not play every down every game. After them the veteran LB depth includes Alexander and Izzo - not a whole lot of gametime experience after that.

So YES there is plenty of room to bring in Seau, Simon and more - after all - we're not even in training camp yet.

If he plays SILB I am very worried, he was getting run over at this position last year. If he plays WILB (his more natural position) then he should be more effective.

I am not expecting a "great" year from 54 but he will be part of a very strong defense so he shouldn't have to be great. As long as he helps stop the run, makes all the tackles he should make we will be fine.

Sad to think that this may be his last year, very sad. I think he is my favorite Patriot ever....

I love Bruschi myself but if I had to pick my favorite all time LB there is no other choice but Andre Tippett - We may not live long enough to see a dominating Patriots LB like Tippett in a Patriots uniform again.

If he only had enough supporting cast around him on defense in those glory days of his,the Patriots surely would have one a few more Super Bowls.

I've noticed that those player weights in profiles don't change year to year. He's 6'2", are we sure he's still 237 after 7 years in the league?

The definitely play a 4-3 though.
