LB Jonathan Freeny & TE Greg Scruggs to IR

I'm wondering with the two open spots on the PS, if they will add a TE and a QB if only as an arm to save reps with Jacoby on IR....................IIRC in the past when they only carried two QB on the roster, there was one on the PS.......

They will probably try to address the TE position. It always looked they wanted to have 4. The Q is what's available.

They invested a lot in that this year. Harbor was a solid player/back up option .. and a costly cut. They must've seen something in Scruggs. Now they are left without both (and without some cap money as well).

Recently they had Gannon Sinclair (ex CHI) for workouts. Bryce Williams who had good beginning of TC here is on Rams PS.

EDIT: And lets not completely forget Reece who could be some sort of option here (if in good form).

So lets see:

1. After cutting DT A Johnson for DT Hughes who was cut a few days later for TE Scruggs with TE Harbor cut two days after .. Pats are finally bringing DT A Johnson back on 53 and are left somewhat thin @ TE.
The only healthy TE this week is Derby. Although both Gronk and Bennett will most likely play on Sunday this is not the best math .. especially since Derby can only partly back them up since he is no real blocker. There is also no other TE on PS. And suddenly .. Derby's job is safe (for the moment)

2. On the other hand there are now 11 DLs on the roster (4 DEs plus 2 DE/OLB and 5 DTs).
Also 12 DBs. There will be a lot of shuffling of the roster till the end of the month at least.

It's the normal, constant rotation at the end of the roster depending on injuries, needs and gameplan. The shuffling will go on until the postseason.

Honestly, I am more intrigued by Scruggs staying with the team for so long than by any of the other moves. Usually those tryouts are over after 1-2 days (see Hughes). Would love to know what they saw in him.

Could be they wanted beef against the buffalo run game, so now they want the penetration of A johnson. BB uses the roster like a menu sometimes, different players for against different offenses.

Jonny Freeny & Gregg Scrubbs = no loss whatsoever. Good riddance, and stay gone.

Glad to see Anthony Johnson back on the 53.

Not glad, at all, to see Gee-No Grossem (another in a long, continuous line of over-drafted top-100 busts) back on the 53. Was really, really hoping that Marcel Reece would be signed instead.

Who the heck is Greg Scruggs?

You'll know who he is when he returns to the 53 later from IR as the Pats one allowed returned player....

....and it will be just in time to cause the Pats to cut another player to make room for a needed addition.

Scruggs is the gift that keeps on giving.

:p

Really hoping Hightower and Collins stay relatively healthy, because we are over loaded with dt/de's.

Yeah .. but I actually wouldn't be surprised if Mr. Scruggs comes in for the post season as some sort of BB's secret weapon .. or if knee injury is more serious - to be signed for next season .. it would be so typical BB
