bravo, neocons... bravo... representing the will of the American people extraordinarily well...

'Bush intends to attack Iran before the end of his term'

    http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1210668683139&pagename=JPost/JPArticle/Printer

US President George W. Bush intends to attack Iran in the upcoming months, before the end of his term, Army Radio quoted a senior official in Jerusalem as saying Tuesday.

The official claimed that a senior member of the president's entourage, which concluded a trip to Israel last week, said during a closed meeting that Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney were of the opinion that military action was called for.

However, the official continued, "the hesitancy of Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice" was preventing the administration from deciding to launch such an attack on the Islamic Republic, for the time being.

The report stated that according to assessments in Israel, recent turmoil in Lebanon, where Hizbullah de facto established control of the country, was advancing an American attack.

Bush, the officials said, opined that Hizbullah's show of strength was evidence of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's growing influence. They said that according to Bush, "the disease must be treated - not its symptoms."

In an address to the Knesset during his visit here last week, Bush said that "the president of Iran dreams of returning the Middle East to the Middle Ages."

"America stands with you in firmly opposing Iran's nuclear weapons ambitions," Bush said. "Permitting the world's leading sponsor of terror to possess the world's deadliest weapon would be an unforgivable betrayal of future generations. For the sake of peace, the world must not allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon."

I really hope not. The rhetoric is eerily similar though.

    No.
Not even Bush is that stupid.

I do think we need to pass a law or even better - an Ammendment to the Constitution - that forbids the president from launching any non-defensive military action in his last term. A better one would bar any such action at all, but we all know how the aging erectile-challenged boys in the Pentagon like to stroke off when they see stuff get blown up. They must've all had nocturnal emissions the night of 9-11-01.

Considering there are no troops left, I will predict nothing more than air strikes. But that will be plenty enough for the **** to officially hit the fan.

Say goodbye to a US carrier in the region. Or, perhaps a US base in Iraq, or perhaps the Green Zone, if Iran wants it so.

Unfathomable? Still? ... It's about oil, stupid.

    Don't worry...ain't gonna happen.
Hey! That's the same response I had to my wife's insane remark: "What happens if the Giants d-line gets too much pressure on Brady?"

They'd love it to be true, cuz then they won't have to do it themselves. Which they eventually will.

They don't want it to happen, but they certainly do want to say it will.

I don't see how we could, because as you correctly point out PC we don't have the resources available to defend properly if Iran should decide to retaliate by launching an attack into Iraq. It would also throw Iraq into utter chaos with the Shia faction turning overwhelmingly against the US. Maybe he wants to hit 'em before he gets out, but I don't think we have either the justification or the means to do so.

if it's about oil then where is it. why aren't we taking iraq's oil. where is the proof that it's about oil? we should be paying 1.50 at the pump if we were going to take iraq's oil. where and why aren't we stealing the oil if it's about oil?

Would some sort of attack on the governing structure there allow those more moderate to seize power?

Maybe, but the problem as I see it is that its just as likely to rally public support for the current regime against the USA.

Not sure that the inner circle will listen to reason or military experts, there seems to be a prevailing attitude that this superpower will be able to dominate any one in the world and nothing can stop us. There are a lot of young men and women out of work right now, and with the right marketing strategies many of them can find meaningful work defending the US.

I certainly hope it does not happen, Judullah seems to be a better option, as long as the Judullah does not kick us in the ass in ten years from now.

That's not the way it works. This isn't some dime-store hit where we have instant cash to walk around with. It takes years to fix the infrastructure, pump the oil, and dole out the contracts. Think please.
