The handheld thing sounds silly. I can do that with my iPhone. The rest sounds kick-ass though. Good on Bob for initiating a move toward excellence in EVERY facet of the Pats experience.

I was going to say the same thing. Plus if you have a verizon 3g phone you can watch NFL Red Zone through the NFL App.

While he's at it, Kraft should install some fans in the red seats - and I don't mean of the electrical kind.

But posters on here go on and on about how cheap Kraft is, and how all he cares about is filling the storefronts at Patriot Place. This makes no sense at all.

Curious to know who you all think is the cheapest NFL owner.

For that matter who is the cheapest professional sports franchise owner period?

Yeah, and Bob, when you're putting in the new Screens, slip in some new, hidden speakers to pipe in a little crowd noise and we are in business!

    Oops.

I've read about the hand helds. Push a button and hear a clapping noise. Push another button and the device cheers. Put it on autopilot and leave it on your seat when you head to the lounge area for chardoney and brie...the device will cheer and clap. controlled by big brother in the Enthusiasm Suite. I read that Biff Polian, an entrpreneur from Indiana designed the gadget.

Re: Kraft installing new HD videoboards, plus adding RedZone TVs and possibly handhel

I get so annoyed by fans at the stadium who are actually bigger fantasy football fans than Patriot fans. They'll get mad if Moss catches a TD because Welker is on their fantasy team. Or Brady will throw a pick and they say, "that sucks, but it's alright because I started the opposing defense." These handheld devices and the RedZone channel will just encourage these people who should be home on their laptops rather than at the stadium.

Re: Kraft installing new HD videoboards, plus adding RedZone TVs and possibly handhel

Yea, I used this handheld thing at the Patriots vs. Dolphins game in Miami last year. It's cool.

Multiple channels that gives you a look at just the team/players you want and even one dedicated to just the Cheerleaders :D

I have an iPhone and the NFL Ticket as well, and the handheld is light years beyond the Direct TV ap that allows you to watch the TV broadcast.

I'm not sure about the hand-held thing either, it seems kind of unecessary but maybe there'll be a market for it, who knows. But those HD's are going to kick:rocker:

I think NASCAR has proved there is a market for it - People are willing to Pay a little to watch the Broadcast.

The continued to push to improve the NFL's TV Product will necessitate these types of innovations to keep people in seats and out of their High Def Man Caves.

Re: Kraft installing new HD videoboards, plus adding RedZone TVs and possibly handhel

I would think the handheld device might appeal to those in suites that are watching the TV more than the game on the field, as well as those in the red seats. I would imagine they would be the only getting the devices, and not every person with a ticket. If it means the Pats (or any other team) get to fill more suites and/or charge more for those tickets, I say go for it. The more revenue a team gets from those people, the less dependent they are on revenue from the rest of the fans.

On a side note, I would imagine certain opposing fan forums are going to have a field day with this story about the Pats, video, and handheld devices.

This is some great news. New HD jumbos that will be the second bigget in the league Awsome. I am interested to check out the hand held devices and would love to hear more about the modernization of the stadium.

Kraft cheap? I don't even get where this comes from is because he wants to make money or because he privately funded the stadium, used no PSLs to do so, and now is renovating a 10 year old stadium. Cant say thanks enough to Mr. Kraft

Actually, it does. Ticket prices at the stadium are already ridiculously high, and we're in a down economy (to put it mildly). Sometimes you have to spend money to make money.

Where did you get it? I was at that game and didn't see anyone with it or any place to pick one up.

Do you have to rent them?

Re: Kraft installing new HD videoboards, plus adding RedZone TVs and possibly handhel

Did he not do that when he paid for the stadium without public funding?

Now couldn't that be why the ticket prices are among the highest in the NFL? Not the highest but among the highest. Should the people that attend the games pay a little more to see the game or should all of the taxpayers of the state take on that burden?

Yea, and I think they are expanding it to all Season Ticket Holders this year.

EDIT: Nope, just Club and Suite again this year.

It depends on how you look at "paid for the stadium". The state did pony up $70 million for infrastructure, and it did just approve even more money to go towards building a pedestrian bridge. However, there's no question that the vast majority of the funds used to build the stadium were private in nature.

The Patriots were the highest priced in the game. In 2009, they fell all the way down to second behind to the Cowboys, who'd just opened Jones' ridiculously overdone stadium.

Team Marketing Report -- Your Respected Source for Sports Business, Marketing, and Sponsorship Information: Short Hops

The people who attend games should pay whatever they are willing to pay (a/k/a market forces), just like with any other product. It's not the fault of the owners that people are willing to drop more than $500 to go to a game. But let's not pretend Kraft is a saint in this, either.

As for what taxpayers should be on the hook for, don't get me started. The citizens of Massachusetts, and the entire country, are already on the hook for all sorts of things they shouldn't be. But that's a topic for the political forums of the world.

I second that with Ralph Wilson a close second. But Brown has a sweetheart deal with Cincinnatti that city guarantees him a certain amount of ticket revenue and he still cries poor mouth.

Re: Kraft installing new HD videoboards, plus adding RedZone TVs and possibly handhel

The Chiefs have ranked 31st and 32nd in payroll the last two years, so they may deserve a nomination. Tampa Bay's spending had dropped dramatically the last few years ever since the Glazers bought Manchester United, they probably deserve consideration too.

For all sports isn't the owner of the Clippers in the NBA notorious for not spending any money?

That is nitpicking a bit, yes they had to expand roads etc... but that is something they would have had to do if a major housing development had gone up in the area.

Went off memory on this one and I thought they were 3rd. :bricks:

Re: Kraft installing new HD videoboards, plus adding RedZone TVs and possibly handhel

Ticket price data is usually flawed in the fact that they do not factor in PSLs into the cost of the ticket. Both the Jets and Giants have relatively low ticket prices for their market, but PSLs for the lower section of the stadium costs as much as Toyota Camry. I think the Patriots are the only large market team that has a new stadium that is under 15 years old that doesn't have PSLs.

Kraft could have easily charged $1000 PSLs for the nose bleed seats and up to $20k for the 100 section PSLs (well maybe not $20k a decade ago, but $5-10k) like the Jets and Giants did and then knock off $20 average per ticket and they would be considered a middle of the pack team in terms of ticket price. They decided not to bilk the consumer out of paying a huge upfront fee for their tickets, but the trade off is one of the highest ticket prices in the league. At some point, the balance of value will shift to the Krafts. But most season ticket holders wouldn't see a return on a PSL investment in terms of lower ticket costs for decades.

The only advantage of PSLs is that many teams allow you to sell them when you want to give them up which you can't do with the Patriots' season tickets. But if you want to keep your season tickets in your family for generations, what's the difference?

In fact, passing PSLs could cost future generations in inheritance tax since the lower bowl PSLs already have a huge value in a lot of stadiums and will need to be declared. Someone who can afford $20k per seat for a PSL will probably easily hit the barrier of the minimum for inheritance tax to kick in in 2011 and beyond if Congress let's the Bush tax cut expire after this year and do not either extend it or create a new cut.
