Ill agree with this. I personally thought the Titans would be a problem as well, but they're imploding. If the Pats play mistake free football, they'll win this game. If they win, my confidence in this season will be sky high :D

Nice article. Great game coming up between 2 very good teams. This game and the NO-Jets game will be very interesting to watch.

Great article, I expect this game to be a good one, but I am not completely sold on the Ravens success just yet. I believe their record is inflated slightly by playing the Chiefs and Browns. I could be wrong, but......Sunday will be telling.

No, I'm with you on htis one. Despite playing the Browns and Chiefs, their D has allowed more points than the Pats. Yet somehow everyone is gettin orgasmic over the Ravens D and saying the Pats D is in transition. IMO, their O is better than their D, and their O isn't as good as the Pats, even without Welker. Flacco-Kelly Washington is not Brady-Randy Moss. They have a edge in the running game, but that's it. And third down back goes to Faulk.

The only time they played a decent team (Chargers) it was a high-scoring affair that they squeaked out. I think this will be another high-scoring affair as the Pats O continues to improve week by week.

There are some great matchups this week! Aside from the Patriots, I'm really looking forward to the Jets/NO and GB/Min. games.

Re: Kerry Byrne:Time To Temper Expectations

Good read start to finish. Here is the opening:

Did we miss something here? Or did the Patriots beat a 2-0 Atlanta team pretty handily on Sunday?

Judging by the reactions of much of Patriots Nation, you would have thought that Tom Brady was knocked out with an injury, that another season was destined for failure and that they had cut off beer sales at Gillette at the end of the first possession.

Instead of reveling in the 26-10 win over a solid Atlanta team that was led by a great young quarterback, Patriots fans seemed intent to focus on the superficialities of Brady’s relationship with Joey Galloway or the lingering rust on his once-shiny Ferrari offense.

    Tough being spoiled, isn’t it?

We are spoiled. Pats fans who have been around a while remember what it is like to celebrate a win, and if the win was in a closely fought game, the win was that much sweeter. The new breed of Pats fan, the ones that came aboard in 2001 when the Pats started winning a lot, just don't understand. They cannot celebrate a win unless the Pats dominate in every phase of the game. The first words out of their mouths are, "Yeah, but ...."

The closing of the article indicates the author is familiar with patsfans.com:

Bottom line: Sixteen-point victories over good teams and good quarterbacks don’t come easy and don’t come often. You wouldn’t know it from the tenor of the conversation around town this week. People need to change their expectations, because the current ones are not realistic.

Re: Kerry Byrne:Time To Temper Expectations

I think one thing to consider is that our D is better than the Chargers' D.

Good article. Someone noted somewhere that In one of the Pats SB seasons they only won by 16+ points once or twice.

Nice work on the Raven! Funny story about Puffins. I spend a lot of time on the water around Monhegan Island off the midcoast of Maine and a local outfit runs Puffin tours to a few of their nesting spots. Lately, the local bald eagle population has recovered and they're beginning check out other types of food sources. This past summer they've been taking tourists out to see the puffins and their chicks in their natural environment only to have the eagles swooping in masse plucking the little chicks form their nests to the horror of gazing tourists.

The great thing about this is, those games don't run concurrently, so no flipping back and forth!

Is GB/Min a night game? I've got a lot of confidence that GB is going to win that one.

Re: Kerry Byrne:Time To Temper Expectations

I absolutely agree with this point, but have a couple of mitigating comments:

    • The Pats opponents have been remarkably reluctant to challenge the DBs:
[*]Outside of the last scramble drive, the Bills tried almost nothing downfield. With Edwards at QB and the Pats focus on Evans/Owens, can't blame them.
[*]The Jets kept everything inside 15 yards. With a rookie at QB, can't blame them either.
[*]The Falcons had a little success with Jenkins early, but as the game slipped away from them late they didn't attack downfield at all.
    • Hard to get interceptions when your opponents (likely intentionally) are limiting their playcalling to only safe passes.
    • Pats defense has taken the opponents key players out of the games (Evans/Owens 71 yds, Washington/Keller 98 yds, Turner/Gonzalez 72 yds), which has been a bigger priority than scheming turnovers.
    • The Pats offense is not doing the defense any favors as far as turnovers are concerned. Slow starts and FGs allow the opponents to stick with a conservative gameplan.
As the offense becomes more effective at scoring TDs, especially early in games, the defense will start seeing routes besides short slants, outs and comebacks. Bodden, McGowan and Meriweather have been very active in the secondary so far, so I expect them to be the likely candidates for "big plays".

If the Pats win sunday I will be on a high but if the Jets also win and shut down the Saints powerful offense then back to the worry wart doldrums about winning the East.

If the Jets do shut down Brees and the offense then you could be looking at a championship defense there :eek:

Re: Kerry Byrne:Time To Temper Expectations

It should be a good game for our Pats(ies).

If they win then they are definitely "for real"!

I am just hoping that by the end of the year Brady can gel with his WR (even Galloway)...maybe they activate Tate as well. If they can crest toward the end of the season then there is hope in Mudville for our beloved team to do well and make it to the SB.

But I would still like to see them do well against Baltimore. Maybe BaltiLESS, ever think of that?

Re: Kerry Byrne:Time To Temper Expectations

Agreed, but they both seem to be a couple of wounded ducks right now. For me the intrigue is to see how Sexy Rexy's vaunted Jet's D does against the Drew Brees in his house and of course I'm hoping the Packers pull out a can of 'whoopa$$" on Favre.
