I hear you -- and I'm one who is willing to excuse a nasty fight on Jabaal Sheard's record. The problem with Ellis, IMO, is that it's "just" a fight, and "just" academic trouble, and "just" smoking weed, and "just" continuing to smoke it even after being suspended for positive drug tests. At what point is that "just" too much? You see the word immature attached to him a lot, which in the past has been a huge red flag for players who continued to get into trouble in the NFL.

One day I'll get the fascination. Oh, wait -- no I won't. On top of these character concerns, he's playing a low level of competition (has anybody here actually seen him play?), where he was good, but certainly not dominant, he had a whopping 11 tackles in his lone ACC season before being dismissed (which again, historically is very hard to do at South Carolina) for "repeated violations of team and university policy"

I just don't get it. Even if it is simply smoking pot (and I don't think it is), to continually do so in such a cavalier and/or careless manner to get caught repeatedly makes me also flag him for intelligence issues and simply being unable or unwilling to follow rules/directions/protocal. I could give a sh!t that he's reportedly performing well in interviews. Let him host The View then. If you can't ace an interview you know is coming, with an infinite amount of prep time, you also fail the intelligence test.

Not on my board. I do not want him here, even as an undrafted free agent. I doubt the Kraft family does either. How many times can it be a coincidence that somebody is in the wrong place and the wrong time with the wrong crowd. That's called a habit. Let somebody else try to rehabilitate the guy. Ellis certainly doesn't appear to have the immense talent that you want to ignore multiple red flags. If he was the next coming of Lawrence Taylor, maybe you can talk yourself into making exceptions. A guy rated to be a 2nd-3rd rounder who figures to be a backup/situational player? Yeah...I'm not looking the other way and gambling on greatness. What are the odds the leopard changes his spots once he starts cashing large checks? Probably pretty close to zero.

Umm, don't you know that you're not supposed to destroy someone's binkie without giving them another player a binkie replacement?:p

Oh, I'm clearly swimming against the current. He's become a full-blown board binkie at this point.

Amen, Brother.

More than anyone in this draft, JJ Watt was BORN to be a Patriot.

Brother Tak, I salute your espousal of Kenrick Ellis, who I have been PRAYING for us to get ~ him or Phil Taylor, who is now off my Board ~ since Halloween...But if you honestly think that JJ Watt compares to Mike Wright...

Well, let's just say our views diverge. ;)

TAK!!

People said Clay Matthews was born to be a patriot too and they passed on him. Wat isn't talented enough to warrant a first round pick from the Patriots, like I said he's mostly a heart and effort guy who had one good year at Wisconsin and that only goes so far with the Patriots. They pick somebody based more on talent and character, Watt has Character, but the talent may not all be there.

If you don't think JJ Watt combines RIDICULOUS Explosiveness with his Passion and Relentlessness, you simply haven't done your homework.

Stop before you hurt yourself, I'd hate for that to happen.

YouTube - JJ Watt vs. Ohio State

Watch his Ohio State game tape, I gave you the link. The talent is there, if you can watch that and definitively say that he doesn't have talent, then you have a world class poker face. If he had 1 more year as a starter we wouldn't be having this discussion because he'd be a top 5 pick.

Uh, no. I had at least five reasons why I wanted no part of him. He'd be either a pass-rush specialist or starter who is a liability against the run in this scheme. The complete lack of ability to anchor and set the edge is something that Matthews never had and he proved as late as the Super Bowl that he still doesn't have it. Watt has no such hole in his game.

They aren't gonna pick Watt, you people are delusional. I've already said numerous times that I do like JJ Watt, but as not the fit for the Patriots that people think. He doesn't have enough bulk that they like in their 3-4 ends. Say what you want about not doing my homework but come draft day Watt will not be a Patriot and I think Watt will be no more than a situational player down the road and never develop into a dominant pro bowl player, not gonna happen. The Patriots would pick Mark Ingram before they pick Watt.

Really Uncle Heat, such vehemence for poor Mr. Ellis! (Steve Spurrier invites you for coffee and a comparison of football life in the SEC v. ACC ;) ) As it happens my Day Two binkies on the DL are Stephen Paea early, and Jarvis Jenkins late second/third. Ken Ellis happens to be an oft troubled, yet talented youngster for whom NE is taking the time to conduct due diligence.

Do I think NE will draft him? I can't say, but their track record for using second and third round picks on developmental talent is hard to ignore. I'm not one to waste a lot of time carping over a player's lower level of competition if he appears to have the talent to succeed in the NFL, to that end Ellis has the tools. At the moment there is an alleged assault arrest, depending on which source you derive your information from, which raises the specter of a return to his South Carolina woes, yet knowing NE's scouting prep and Mama Kraft's standards, I can't help but think any assault charge wasn't an automatic deal killer once the facts had been determined.

Let the buyer beware! I'll gamble with NE whichever way they go.

I'll drown with you then. Not a fan of kenrick Ellis and not @ DE especially. I would run around him every time if I was an OC with a good scat back. I have no faith in his ability to change direction, especially while engaged.
