Yes, BB has said that if they can't pass the conditioning test then he can't put them out on the field.

    Washington failed the conditioning run?

I heard on Sirius NFL radio this morning that the reason Washington was on the PUP was because he initially failed the conditioning run. Based on the conversation (they were talking about the difference between being medically healthy to return and in football shape and how the Pats require their players to pass the conditioning run to be healthy enough to play), I don't know if it was speculation or a statement of fact (or at least statement of sources). It would make sense since he was only on the PUP for one day.

If Washington did in fact fail the conditioning run, that is yet another black mark on his less than stellar beginning with the Patriots. Again assuming this is the case, he is starting to look like another David Terrell - a failed reclaimation project.

He passed it before camp is official..he won't be missing a day of camp because of that. I really do NOT think it is that big a deal. If there is a conditioning problem ongoing, that is more important and MIGHT BE an issue. This one run, is not.

Re: Washington failed the conditioning run?

I think it is a bigger deal than you think if he did indeed fail it. Assuming Washington performs better in camp and the preseason than he did in minicamp, this could be a tight WR race. In that scenario, Belichick and McDaniels are going to be looking at every reason why they should keep one player over the other. Things like whether they showed up for the run in shape could play a factor in that situation. Maybe not.

If it wasn't a tight competition (like Antwain Smith a few years back) or Washington wasn't clearly the worst WR in minicamp, I think it wouldn't be a big deal. I think the fact that Washington is entering camp far behind Caldwell and Gaffney in picking up the offense and catching balls, failing the run can only hurt him.

Actually how can you disagree with him? If failing the conditioning run is actually the case.

The guy just got a big hefty contract if he sticks with the team and hes going to come in here out of shape?

That is a black mark in my book.

Who is the scout who picked Washington as a good fit for the Patriots? I think listening to Chad Johnson for the past 4 years has made him lose his sense of reality. Like someone said before, it's like David Terrible all over again.

Technically Belichick originally came out and raved about Washington when he came out of the draft noting that his injury history is long but was worth the risk because of potentially what he could become.

Well...basically whether technically put ON the list or the fact that you do not practice is basically PUPed. I think Kelley two years ago had trouble and was cut for that. It happens. If you read Tomase/Breer, yesterday I believe they had this...

"As a quick add-on to the story,(WHICH was about PUP) the book’s not closed on the list yet. The team will hold its conditioning run tomorrow and, thereafter, it’s possible additions are made to the list."

I think the inference from that is that if one does NOT pass the test, PUP is the option.

Given how many players are from different teams, it just shows that some may NOT be used to the conditioning needed for the team. I think it's silly to start making judgments on that right away. Also notice, if indeed that is what happened, he came to camp early and made sure he passed before camp was scheduled..OR when the bulk of the runs will happen, today. Not making excuses for him, but wait until there is something substantive. I REALLY doubt that a conditioning run will be a deciding factor. As I said, if that shows more him not being in shape during camp, it's another story.

I think that your thoughts are correct. 1+1=2 If they don't pass the conditioning test, look for more players to be added to the PUP list.

Right, but it's difficult to have the test when they haven't even started camp yet. The tests, I would think, will start tomorrow. They are only starting to report to camp today.

Then again I could be wrong. It's been common in the past for new players to fail the test the first time or two. I wouldn't read anything in to it.

I thought the conditioning run was the day before the first day of camp with some stragglers getting tested the day of camp. Players report a day early for their physical and I thought their conditioning run. Assuming that a player reported earlier than that, they could have gotten their physical and conditioning run done days early.

    He did?

Then why did he draft Bethel Johnson instead?

Anyway, I give a pass to any new guy who fails the run on the first try, as long as he passes it on his second try.

It seems any WR would fail a conditioning run, I know they have a lower target than the OL but still. WR run, that is what they do.

This guy better play his ass off on special teams if he wants to have any shot at making the team.

This is purely from memory, so it may not be acurate as to what the conditioning run consists of. Everyone gets 30 seconds rest between sprints and 1 minute after the 10th one. Total of 20 sprints.

    O-linemen, D-linemen: 40 yards in less than 6 seconds

FB, TE, QB, K, P, LB: 50 yards in less than 7 seconds

RB, WR, DB: 60 yards in less than 8 seconds

Because Washington had major neck and back injuries and most questioned if he could even play a season in the nfl.

That dropped him to a late 3rd early 5th round type player. Bethel Johnson was a second round risk.
