That Garoppolo took part in practice Tuesday, on a limited basis, reinforces how the Patriots have hopes of him playing this week.
To my knowledge, they'd never worked out Yates previously. Yates is one of the more mobile QBs and he performed decently enough a few years back for Houston. He was under O'Brien's offense last season before he tore his ACL.
As for no contract. Yates is only 9 months post ACL tear. He may not be able to pass a physical yet.
