Julius Peppers signs franchise tender with the Panthers

How are they "way past draft picks"? Yes, 2010 draft picks are a usable commodity. And Peppers isn't going to be that expensive in trade.

The Pats could package Green and Woods to Carolina for Peppers and it would be an even swap, imho. And the Pats could easily give Peppers a new contract that would be more than fair. The problem is how to do it while also trying to get Wilfork to a contract extension.

I agree that it's not going to be that hard, but if we get him for Jarvis Green and Pierre Woods. Well, I don't even know. We should build a statue for BB. Two OK players for a very good one? I wish.

Why does everyone forget the 17+ million that the Panthers would free up in cap space? That has a value too.

Green would give the Panthers someone to step in at DE for Peppers. Would Green be as good? No. But the Panthers have a damn good line down there and Green would surely benefit from that.

Woods gives the Panthers a damn good special teamer and someone who can step in as the starter at OLB or be a primary reserve there.

Hurney: Peppers signing not prelude to a trade - NFC South - ESPN

Just got off a conference call with Carolina general manager Marty Hurney, who discussed Julius Peppers signing his one-year tender as the franchise player.

Before the conspiracy theorists get rolling, Hurney said this move was not a prelude to the Panthers turning around and trading Peppers.

"We want Julius Peppers here," Hurney said. "This one-year contract was signed with the intention of him coming to training camp on Aug. 2 with the Carolina Panthers."

Peppers will be a Patriot by 9:47 pm PT expect an announcement soon

No, no, it's just NOW that Peppers IS available.;)

Ah yes... question : is there any way we can get Jason Taylor, Julius Peppers, Adam Seward, AND each and every quasi-linebacker that has been released from their team ?

Turn to ESPN Peppers just got out of his limo wearing a Paul Pierce jersey

I've been moping for days because the Patriots haven't signed

many of their draft choices. It's nice to see DaBruinz involved

again getting us stirred up.

Whether the Pats were planning to go after Peppers or not, there's no need to sign the rookies until just before TC starts (b/c they can't take part in TC until they're under contract).

What is your fascination with Adam Seward? Or are you just too small-minded that you have to resort to bringing him back up? Also, Seward was an ILB. Not an OLB.

Taylor has played OLB. In fact, he won the Defensive MVP while playing OLB. So, I don't get your incessant need to bag on him. Peppers has that potential..

Instead of being the poster child for negativity, why don't you bring something constructive to the table? Or is that too much for your grey matter to handle?

Just out of curiosity, how would getting rid of their best player be arguable to freeing up cap room at this point?

If it happened at the beginning of free agency a la Cassel, then it'd make some sense. But why would a team who's already under the cap want to free up more cap space by dumping undoubtably their best player?

No disrespect to anyone, just don't see how this makes much sense

The Associated Press: Peppers ends stalemate, signs franchise tender

I don't think it looks good for those in fantasyland thinking he is still coming here.....
Why? BB said last March he couldn't talk to the Panthers about a trade until Peppers signed the franchise tag. Today is the first day BB can call John Fox and ask. Not that I think it will happen, but Peppers signing the tag was the first thing that needed to be done in Peppers was to come here.

Bill said very clearly that he would not deal with any player until he signed his tender and his advice to any player in Pepper's position would be to sign - sooooo according to Belichick this would be the beginning of a trade.

Of course, I don't think there is anyway he comes to our team.

Replace "anyway" with "snowball's chance in Hell" and you have a dead-on accurate statement.

Well, I'm going to throw myself back into fantasy land and remain hopeful that Peppers is a Pat by TC. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

I was going to post this on Monday but I thought - ahhh I'll wait. My buddy is usually about 50/50 when it comes to this kinda stuff, but I thought the timing was too odd to be a lie. At about 10 am on Monday, my buddy texted me to tell me his dad, who's a cop, was on Julius Peppers' detail that morning at Logan and was heading to Foxboro (which didn't make sense considering he is still under the control of the Carolina Panthers, so if he were in Foxboro, I was thinking it would have to be a physical - a precursor to an upcoming move)... so needless to say I just kinda brush it off, it would be wishful thinking - helped get through the day in the cubicle... plus I didn't have an account so even though I had the information, I had no basis to just start an account now. Well. Now I believe this information has some import.

The Pathers weren't in the same position as the Patriots. Cassel had already signed his tender. Peppers had not until today.

From what I can find, the Panthers are actually right against the cap and have very little room to sign their rookies. It definitely helps that they don't have a first round pick to sign. But they still have to accommodate the signing bonus amortizations of the other rookies. Freeing up the 16.68 million would make that possible and give them the latitude to sign some other players to contract extensions (Richard Marshall, DeAngelo Williams).

I'm not saying it WILL happen. I'm saying it could happen and that cap space is something that the Panthers could use.

Man, I really wish that wasn't your first post. If you could verify this at all (names) you'd get some great headline action, that's for sure.

Julius Peppers gets a police escort from Logan?

Lets see, wanted to post this on Monday but registered today. Is that the BS warning horn I hear blaring?

I can't really remember the last time one of the, "my buddy told me THIS, stay tuned" stories actually came true. :(
