Well, our WR coach was a first year coach for WR at this level

Yes but that doesn't seem like a legitimate excuse for the organization, we failed to secure good talent at that job and we paid for it.

I think the "we promote from within" mentality can really hurt an organization, not only does it shut off the available talent available outside your organization, which might be higher than what you have available within, but it also creates "in the box" thinking. I would feel a lot more comfortable with really solid position coaches, strength trainers, treatment specialists, etc. In certain instances I would actually be better than many guys they have on staff, which isn't a good thing.

Let's see...
-- Half the folks on this forum were spanking their monkey over Galloway's signing.
-- Edelman...so much for BB sucking at finding WRs.
-- Tate, he flashed well in limited play, get him back healthy and we'll see good things.
-- That WR coach you are talking about was stolen off the Minnesota Vikings staff, prior to that he was on the staffs for **** Vermeil, then Herm Edwards (I'd take Herm as a position coach, just not a HC) - he's exactly the "type" of coach people are hollering for BB to sign - yet somehow he's a poster child for "the failure of BB's system."
-- Promote from within provides consistency for the players, look at all the kids out there in SF and Oakland who have to learn a new offense every year? Frankly, your complaint ignores all the coaches who have been plundered off BB's staff - it's rather odd that NE's coaches suck, yet other teams keep stealing them. :confused2:

But our acting OC was an experienced nfl WR coach.
maverick4 is trolling the Planet, your humor is unappreciated. :beatingcoming:

Yet somehow the Colts manage to keep their good coaches and keep their team going without missing a beat, part of it might be coaching and part might be drafting but there are definitely cracks that could widen pretty deep if not addressed.

You want Colts' coaches? :confused2:

I want better coaches than we have now. Look at this another way, everything about your argument about not bringing in outside talent could equally apply to players, yet BB is all about bringing in vets. You chose to bring in an example of a coach taken from the outside that didn't work, but did Pees work?

There will be examples to support either argument that one can point to but I think one would need to take things on a case by case basis to be accurate. I'm not saying that one shouldn't promote from within, just that the coaches overall ability should be considered, and one should go with the guy who's the best for the job.

Let's not get too far into the rough here - I stated my argument for why I felt WR was the most critical position in need of building/rebuilding going into the offseason - that had nothing to do with coaches. You brought in the coaching staff, arguing that BB should stop promoting from within and linking that statement to the WR position, which, oddly enough, was an outside hire just like those you were lobbying for. Forgive me for pointing out the irony in your argument. I'm not concerned with BB's coaching hires and have not argued for hiring/firing anyone. Back to WRs:

I am not enamored of any Free Agent WRs; I do see a number of quality kids in this draft who would compete well for #3/4 WR, back-up the slot, and develop into 1a/b WRs in the Deion Branch mold. I am not looking to replace Randy Moss as much as to fill any void that develops if he's injured or leaves the team. I am not looking to draft an instant #1, I just want a kid who can come in and put in the hard work necessary to develop while filling the complementary role required across from the #1.

You brought in the coaching staff, arguing that BB should stop promoting from within...

No, I never said that, I said it's a bad idea to limit yourself to only those already in your organization, that one should pick the best qualified candidate.

I'm sure BB doesn't limit himself, though he has preferences, in any case I am corrected as to your point.
