Harbaugh was asked about the Saints bounty scandal and whether bending the rules was worth doing to gain advantage. Here is part of how he responded.

Listen, I hate the misperceptions about "Spygate" as much as anyone. But I can't argue with what he said ... in the minds of many across the country the Pats' titles are stained, meaning that episode shapes their perception.

That to me β€” the perception β€” is what sucks the most. We as Pats fans can argue all day about the details and the real effect on games (not to mention the grossly incorrect stories that are still floated), but that perception will not change, and we will not get over that hump until the Pats win another Super Bowl or three.

    Who cares what people think?

    Read the "Scarlet Letter."

    That's a badge of honor.

Mediocre HC. I can go 10-6 every year with 5 or 6 hall of famers on defense too.

    Its terrible

Well said the perception, rather than the reality is the issue..

Have always contended the BB handled the fallout poorly, and his attitude subsequent to this episode only made it worse than it actually was...

He should have immediately explained what he was doing, why he was doing it, the prevalence of this in the NFL and moved on.. sometimes more is better than less.

OTOH am tired about being outraged about the outrage..

It still boggles my mind that people are so misinformed (a nice way of saying stupid). Filming Defensive signals did not become against the rules until the 2007 season. So why would there be an asterisk for the 2001,2003 & 2004 Super Bowls seasons ? It was legal for ALL teams to film defensive signals during those seasons, so how exactly did the Patriots cheat or get an upper hand on other teams during those years ?

Really people, it doesn't take an Einstein to understand this stuff. It's kind of like the morons who want to ban Barry Bonds and others for taking steroids. Steroids didn't become illegal in baseball until after the 2004 season when they first started testing players for it and giving them suspensions starting in 2005. Therefore, anything done prior to that was not against MLB rules.

Oh I agree to an extent; it's like the Brady quote I used to have as a signature: tall trees get the strong winds. A lot of Patriots bashing over Spygate is fueled by their success and jealousy over it. But I think for Harbaugh to say basically "real effect or not, it taints perception," it's hard to argue there. That's all.

Bspn just had Bruschi on and asked him about this.. He got pretty heated and defensive which is hard to blame him for and basically stormed off the set at the end of the segment. Two things really bugged me about this aside from the obvious beating of a dead horse rehashing that espn likes to do.

First the sportscenter dude emphasized "which included video taping the final walk through of the Rams before the SB" in leading into the Bruschi response. Second, that Tedy didn't challenge the usual nonsense with what we here all know to be true regarding rules on taping and the fact that the walk through report was proven to be false.

I know it's my own fault for watching and getting pissed off about it but just once would I like to see somebody challenge these morons with the truth.

Seriously? On both counts? See to me a national media person saying that on the air is waaaaaaaaaaaaay worse than what Harbaugh said.

Agreed. That was the one time he should have come out swinging with the media and used the facts instead of just moving forward.

I agree.. it sickens me. Bruschi's head looked like it was gonna pop! The 1000 yard stare he gave the anchor (from 3 feet away) before storming off the set was priceless though :p

I absolutely guarantee that the Ravens, last season and this season, are doing something that violates the rules at least as badly as Spygate did. Of course, since Harbaugh isn't a particularly good coach, and because his team's going to fall off as soon as the aging D starts to regress (and he knows it), he's trying to position himself on the moral high road. So I guess he has that, for now... for whatever that's worth.

Contended when the Saints scandal broke, that that issue would not be stand alone and somehow in every subsequent breath on the Saints the Patriots spygate shyt would become intertwined, and generally thought of as a more heinous offense.

It is what it is, and will not go away.. wish that 60 minutes would do a special on BB and he could use that venue to clear the air.. and forever put it to bed..

But coming out of Ravens none of this is surprising, the timing maybe, but consider the source and atmosphere..
