US Job Creation Plunges, but Rate Drops to 7.6% - Yahoo! Finance

Now they've found a way to lower the U6 rate....it lowered fuggn .5 points.

    Lowest level in 44 years!

    Our gov't lies to us.

    "Ain't it awful"

    "No it's god awful"

BTW do you have any evidence that it has been doctored, and done differently than it was done under the past three presidents?? Or is it that old myopia again???...

Let's see: 1946+65 = 2011. So, no, the government isn't lying; this is something that would happening regardless.

It's a good thing we're riding out the sequester, too. Last thing we need is to support economic growth.

    Tell you what Darryl.

I'll answer your question if you can tell us your thoughts on "people leaving the workforce". Keep in mind that once a person runs out of unemployment benefits, they are no longer counted (even thought they're stil unemployed).

BTW....no other president since FDR has experienced a depression as long as the one we're in. So we can't compare today's reports to recent periods as this hasn't happened since the Great Depression.

I believe we need to count people who have run out of unemployment benefits. Our reports MUST give Americans a clear picture of our current condition....and as of today, they don't Jack.

This thread is about US Unemployment reports...so I'm discussing it's methodology. If you want to discuss something else, start your own thread Jack.

    Are you serious?

You're whining about government lies and the labor force participation rate. Now go back, read what I wrote, and think about it for a while.

No, it certainly isn't. Even the IMF has come around on that.

What did Obama's $900B jobs bill do for our economy? Did it create any permanent improvements? The fact is, we still have a longgggg road back to economic health and we don't need any more temporary fixes that just add to our deficit. We don't need to bail out any more union pensions (see GM bankruptcy) or mega-corporations either.

Ok, guess we'll find out. My hope is that our gov't never tries to create another bubble in our lifetime Jack.

What's your opinion on creating bubbles?

    Unfortunately, it's not dead PR.

I think this jobs report shouldn't come as a surprise considering the non-existent GDP numbers from Q4 of 2012. Expect more unevenness moving forward.

Ok, we have some common ground here. I could stomach investing in something with long-lasting benefits....but it would have to be a guarantee, not a hope.

Obama's desire to get banks to lend to less qualified Americans to buy homes is not one of those good ideas.

I agree on this as well. Bernanke isn't helping. The funny part of the stock market is people get excited and think, "Wow, a new record high!" despite the fact we're only back to where we were 5 years ago.

You do know that if the corporations create jobs (they didn't say WHAT country these new jobs were in...nor do they need to) in third world countries, they're still considered new jobs.

USA is quickly turning into a shell of it's former self and morphing into a third world country. When the new immigration laws happen, look for this place to be a multicultralistic living hell.

We can not compare to the last 4 presidents because none of them experienced sustained high unemployment like we have today. So we can only compare our current situation to the Great Depression.

Now answer the question I asked you.

    My Jersey:

We never needed to change it because all our economic downturns only lasted a brief period and unemployment would go down quickly.

But when we have sustained high unemployment as we did during the Great Depression and as we do today, our metrics need to reflect current conditions so Americans get a true picture of our economic reality.

The only rational comparison of our economy today are the conditions found in the Great Depression.

You STILL haven't added on iota of intelligent commentary DarrylS aka...chumly.

a person who stops looking for work is not considered unemployed

in theory, the unemployment rate could reach zero if everyone stops looking for work

Dropouts: Discouraged Americans leave labor force

the employment rate is 63.3% ..... the lowest it has been since 1979

the economy is not healthy, and obama has done nothing to help
