I found it very interesting that the Patriots were talking to Dexter McCluster, a 5-8 jitterbug, about being a slot receiver. The Patriots are looking for a small, quick guy to replace Welker, and I expect them to draft at least one. I hope it is McCluster; can you imagine a LB trying to cover him?

Too bad that PFW spilled the beans on this one...now everyone will be looking at him as a slot guy instead of a RB. Grrrrr.

McCluster would be a BB dream come true, with all the versatility he would bring.

Maybe Bill wanted the PFW guys to spill the beans. Maybe the Pats don't really like him and are trying to get teams to move on him because the Pats have their eyes on other players.

I think BB really wants the guy, but knows other teams are smart enough to figure he will try to deke them. They will think he had PFW leak the news on purpose and will 'outsmart' BB by leaving the guy alone.

    But ...

And here I was thinking that you were looking for that cell phone that has the extra large numbers...

I think that the Pats like the "quicker" receivers vs. the faster receivers because the quicker ones tend to get better separation on the CBs.

As I've said, I think that Edelman is going to end up outside opposite Moss once Welker gets back.. And with his height (6') that makes him a good target out there.

Edelman isn't 6' anymore than Welker is 5'9", though Edelman does have about 3" on Welker.

I stand corrected. I got my receivers mixed up. Brandon Tate is the one who is basically 6' (5'11 7/8" ) where as Edelman is 5'10 3/8".

Wes Welker is 5'8 6/8". They rounded up the quarter inch.

I wouldn't take him before the 4th or 5th. Too small and tiny hands.

NE has looked at McCluster, Gilyard, and Golden Tate who can all be projected to the slot. They also have Darnell Jenkins on the roster who spent a chunk of last season on the PSquad. Like Gaffney and Moss, BB continues to build depth and diversity with guys who can play inside or out as needed.

Two sleepers with quicks to watch are Appalachian State QB Armanti Edwards and SMU WR Emmanuel Sanders.

Edwards will be a conversion to WR after a highly productive career. Very quick-footed w/ 4.5 (or better) speed. If he can run decent routes, he'd be a welcome addition.

Sanders was a Combine highlight. A football player first, he showed some athleticism when he ran the 2nd fastest 40 (4.41), had the best broad jump, 2nd best cone, and 3rd best shuttle. Very quick in and out of his breaks, he can run all the routes. Has a slight build, yet has been called fearless vs DBs. Another highly productive player.

Both have been projected as late picks, although Sanders may have risen.

Are you sure that is the second fastest 40? I thought there were some 4.3 and even a 4.2 but I am not sure. I just got a glimpse on the NFL channel.

    Second fastest at his position?

Yes, his 4.41 was behind Jacoby Ford's 4.28 at the WR position.
