Only 32 Franchises and yet only a handful are continually successful. How you suck year after year while drafting at the cream of the crop end only goes to prove that regardless of talent, coaching and proper management is imperative for success.

Don't be too hard on the Green Beans. They still earned a trophy.

Congrats on your 28th place finish!

Don't think he'll be fired, but he deserves to get **** on for a while for continuing to play Fitz so long. Ya reap what ya sow.

Same goes for Macc because he's the fool who actually re-signed that POS of a QB. Rip both of them until August. They deserve it.
All is right with the world: while competitive teams are vying for playoff spots, Jets fans are "On To August"! Jets Nation is following the plot line perfectly: Out of contention in December, back pages of the newspapers say "Fire The Coach"! It's just like clockwork...

IMHO the key question to ask about a guy like Bowels is: are the players getting better? If not, he needs to be replaced with someone who can develop players. To me that was the difference here in NE between the Carrol regime and the Belichick regime. Carrol had an interesting scheme where players did interesting things (and he still does) but none of them got better over time, whereas with BB under his coaching they improved or they were replaced. The reason Carrol does well in SEA is that he's had another decade or so to hone his system in college, and the GM in SEA is much better than Bobby Greir at picking the groceries for him.

Cap space would have been a problem if they had tried to hold the team together and compete in 2017. They're projected to be almost a million dollars over the 2017 cap, but notably missing any kind of legitimate QB.

But given the absolute disaster this season, they're going to have to essentially start over. Hypothetically, if they cut/trade Revis, Clady, Mangold, Decker, Skrine, Richardson, Marshall, Gilchrist, Harris, and Giacomini, then that would open up $67 million in cap room (not counting what it costs to pay their replacements). All of those guys are some combination of too bad, too old, or too hurt to stick around for big money during a rebuilding period, but that's also a ton of guys to get rid of at once. It's 10 of their top 12 projected 2017 cap hits, with Wilkerson at #1 being the biggest disaster of all but immovable and Carpenter at #10 being good enough, young enough, and not saving enough.
Yes, there really is not much worth saving here. It's amazing as you say that they have used up so much of the cap on aging players and have garbage at the most important position, QB. Petty and Hackenburg are not lighting it up. If they were any good in practice the coaches would have started them long ago. The Jets are tanking at the same time where there really doesn't look to be any great QB talent coming out of college. Sucks to be them!

The NYJ also show the peril of building primarily via free agency and huge contracts. IMHO the tipping point of their season came when Decker went out. Because they had so much tied up in big contracts they really had no one who could come in and do a decent job. Enunwa has made some great plays but Decker was more consistently in the mix, IMHO. This is why we see BB trade away Collins and Jones. It's better to have two mid-level guys who can do 80% of the job versus one stud taking up twice the money. The Jets are victims of the need to make splashy signings to keep their media image going. They're going to be savaged in the press if they do what CLE is now doing, but that's exactly what they need to do.

Only 32 Franchises and yet only a handful are continually successful. How you suck year after year while drafting at the cream of the crop end only goes to prove that regardless of talent, coaching and proper management is imperative for success.

Indeed, that's what makes the NFL so interesting, at least till this current greedy [ phallic object ] commissioner took over and ran it into the ground.

Is it bad that I hope the Jets win a couple more games somehow? I want to make sure this QB disaster continues :p

How are you going to get it into the stadium?

Don't most of you NE/Boston guys have a lot of room in the crotch of your pants?

Get it? It's an Irish joke.

Year after year of suckage from the Jets. I think a coachload of pornstars suck less than the Jets in the regular season.
