Boy the Patriots could exploit this kid come week 1. I hope he starts against them as well for the season opener.

He is a rookie and will have a learning curve but he is an improvement over the rest of garbage they have at CB. Dyson is OK but if he is injured the depth falls off pretty fast.

It can't get worse than last years play-off game when one of the starting CB couldn't even walk, the Patriots went after him 3-4 plays in row before he was yanked.

    LCB Andre Dyson, Hank Poteat
RCB David Barrett, Justin Miller, Darrelle Revis

He's just starting the preseason game because he looked good against Jets 3rd stringers. If he starts week 1, the Jets have issues or he's a future all-pro.

Revis has a chance to be a special player. The Jets are asking too much if they expect him to perform at that level in Week 1. Still, considering how underwheliming and out of synch the Pats' passing offense has looked early on, I wouldn't put it past Revis to play well in Game 1. He has rare talent.

Not sure about that unless you consider all first round CB to have "rare talent". I like him quite a bit but "rare talent" to me means he's likely to be one of the top two or three CB in the league consistently in his prime - I'd love to have him but I think you're overstating it a little.

"Rare talent" is too much at this stage, but Revis was the cornerback I liked in the draft. I expect he'll do very well for the Jets, dagnabbit.

    Agreed, agreed and agreed.

BTW, the title to this thread is a little off given that he's "starting" because Dyson is hurt.

He may have rare talent, but at this point what he has is raw talent. This move by Mangenius smacks of desparation.

If he starts on the 9th, by the end of the game, that rare talent will be cooked, and Brady will say to Moss, 'well done'.

You just can't say enough about the guy. The next Champ Bailey has arrived.

I don't see any reason to downgrade the talent and potential of players who play for other teams. Revis has the ability to become a #1 cb in the NFL. It will probably take time for him to realize that talent.

We aren't, I think we just have a different definition/threshold for the phrase "rare talent".

I wasn't referring to any of your comments, which were very reasonable. I was replying to Denverpatsfans' obvious sarcasm (which was amusing).

Let us remember that Mangia first came to the whole league's attention
in '05 when he crafted a satisfactory ...a sufficient ... secondary for us
out of the bits and pieces left after injuries depleted the starting ranks.

If anyone can make DB lemonade
    out of DB lemons,
    it is Eric.

Belichick has a good history with DBs too. I can't say that it was more Belichick than Mangini but Jets fans can't say the opposite either. We don't know. But we do know that when a position needs help that Belichick isn't afraid to get his hands dirty - so while Mangini may have been the main guy there - Belichick also may have had a little to do with that.

Revis has only been a Jet 7 days, but if practice is any indicator he should turn out to be good #1 CB. It is way to early to tell as of yet of course.

And not for nothing but he has not been named a starter, he is just getting some reps with the first team D.

David Harris the Jets 2nd round MLB pick is performing very well so far in practice and the preseason games. Keep an eye on Harris.

Wow, I didn't realize how bad the Jest's defensive backfield was. Brady may throw for 500 in that first game.

How could anyone possible know that? He played for a team in the Big East that had to play exactly ONE team that threw the ball (Louisville). The rest of the quality teams in that conference (WVU, heck, even Rutgers) ran the ball most of the time.

    ===================================

Well lots of teams in the NFL run the ball more then they throw, Revis at 5'11" and 205 has a reputation as a hard hitter and good tackler in college, skills that will translate well to the NFL run game.

This kid is by no means a reach.
