For most of their existance, the Jets have been a pathetic organization. They have had merely 14 winning seasons in the last 45 years. That's 31 non-winning seasons. 31 out of 45 !! They have merely 4 div titles in 4 and a half decades. They had that one glorious year in 1968, when Namath lead them to their only championship, and almost nothing else in their entire existance!

However, much like us, they were turned around and taught how to be winners when Parcells came along. The problem is, just like us with Pete Carroll, the coach's that follow Parcells inherit well-built talented teams that have been taught what it takes to win, and therefore these coaches that follow wind up having some level of success for awhile, no matter how lame they are, because the teams are good enough to keep winning for awhile, despite them. However, eventually, things start to erode, the talent weakens, the discipline and confidence start to slide, and before long, these replacement coaches start to be exposed. They records of success, earned mostly off of pre-existing talent gathered by Parcells, starts to even out and failure starts to become the way. This is where Kraft had the sense to see what was happening, and make his play for Belichick.

For the Jets however, there is no Robert Kraft guiding the organization. No astute judgement and keen insight. Just cluelessness. That is what your seeing with first, Herm Edwards' idiocy in running the team. His obvious lack of game management skills, such as game-planning, making in-game adjustments, and decisions, such as play-calling, strategy decisions, and even simple clock mangement. And he really made a total fool of himself with his loss of emotional control and unstable 'meltdowns' during taped press conferences, for all to see. It is totally unfathomable that those running their organization did not step in long ago and put him out of his misery. He was clearly in over his head, and anyone with any judgement at all could easily see it. But they didn't. So now, after this latest debacle of a season, they are going through this national embarrasment comedy show, as they try to fumble their way through the process of cutting ties with this fool, and they can't even do that. What's more, the rumors are that their owner does not want to spend money, and that their selections for the next coach are just as bad.
So at this point, ALL of Parcells postive effects on the organization have been completely wiped out, and they have become the totally inept and comical organization they always were before he arrived. It's great for the Patriots that they can have 2 easy wins each year, but it's even greater to realize what great ownership we have in comparison, and for that we should be truly thankful. For many years, under the Sullivan regime, out management wasn't much better and we were prone to similiar bouts with being laughingstocks, but thankfully Mister Kraft stepped in and took over, and we have been in football nirvana ever since. Let these latest episodes with the Jets serve as a reminder of just how lucky we are!

to be "turning in to" a laughing stock, you can't already "be" a laughing stock. That'd be like me saying the Patriots are "turning in to" the class of the league.

my point was that they had crawled out from under that weight for a few short years when Parcells took over, but have already squandered all that he had accomplished and have now completely 'backslid' into being clowns again.

it just emphasizes what could have happened to us if kraft didn't step in, stop it, and get Belichick. (it WAS beginning unde Carroll)

it's so nice to have good management after all these years.
