So I guess the Jets found a loop-hole that kills an up tempo offense

    Faking an injury.

I feel kinda hypocritical about this since Willie Mac did this in Indy on the "Goal Line Stand", but seriously, every time the Pats picked up the pace, someone would come up lame and cause an injury timeout. Then they would sit out one play and come jogging back on the field as if it never happened. This isn't an excuse thread, the Jets came to play and deserved the win.

The way I see it, this is a huge loop-hole in the rules that can't be closed. How do you penalize a guy who claims he's injured, you can't as far as I can tell. Maybe make him sit out the rest of the series if the team doesn't use a time out? I hate that the Jets are starting to make Football look like the other Football.

I don't think the rule will be changed..it is just one of those things that we know teams are going to abuse but have to deal with it.

Re: So I guess the Jets found a loop-hole that kills an up tempo offense

I didn't see the Pats pick up the temp until the game was over... This is a non-topic. Jets beat us, we had no sense of wanting to win that game. We got punked and bullied, like last year...

They definitely faked a couple of injuries there, but not going to criticize them for it. It's a valid tactic.

Don't be that guy, you sound like a colts fan but thats not surprising considering how many people were so enamored with Brady, the MVP talk etc.

Holy Boo Hoo.... Thread. FYI, the Jets kicked our @ss today. If faking injury is part of their gameplan. Kudos to the Jets for excecuting that. At least one of the two teams out there was willing to do what it takes at all costs.....

Re: So I guess the Jets found a loop-hole that kills an up tempo offense

Not for nothing but when were the Patriots up tempo?? The 1st drive of the game?
Their slow methodical play (down by 2 scores and they use up 8 minutes on a drive they get no points from) pretty
much all game long but especially in the 4th qtr was maddening.
    VERY UNPatriot like.

Re: So I guess the Jets found a loop-hole that kills an up tempo offense

They certainly did do this but still they beat us fair and square. They did nothing outside the rules.

I do disagree with one thing, they could close this loophole easily. If someone causes play time to stop from an injury, they should have to sit out for a set number of snaps. If they really were injured, they would anyway.

My goodness. No offense but you sound just like Bill Polian and Colts fans or (gasp) Ravens fans.

Re: So I guess the Jets found a loop-hole that kills an up tempo offense

Jeez, I was pointing out something that I noticed, I'm saying this had any major affect on the game and wasn't why the Pats lost.

My point is, there's no way to stop it, is there? That's more my question. The freakin league worries about the players socks be pulled up but this has never been discussed as far as I know. It's a FREE TIMEOUT if the player is taking a dive.

Re: So I guess the Jets found a loop-hole that kills an up tempo offense

why do you think the nfl put in the rule where an injured player has to sit out at least one play

this tactic has literally been used for years , by every team in the nfl

The loophole was single covering two wide receivers and mucking up the middle. Get receivers open, hit them and have them catch it is the secret.

If there was a way to eliminate it do you think that all of the people on the competition committee would have figured it out by now?

a rule change i'd like to see after the season, is an automatic 15 yard flag for any player telling the ref to throw a flag haha

    You're probably right.

I guess the Offensive equivalent is asking for a measurement. We all know BB likes to use that one for a freebie timeout.

    We got our ass kicked.

    That's it.

Catch the catchable balls. Block the blockable guys. Things like that.

Screw this thread. Jets played well - certainly well enough to win. We did not.

1st one.... okay, it happens. Took away our momentum and slowed down the offense. Had to settle for a FG.

2nd one.... this is starting to seem a bit fishy

3rd one..... this is getting out of hand.

4th one..... fans start booing the "injured" player. This is BS

    5th one..... ridiculous.

Every time the Jets player took one play off and then ran right back on the field.

The blueprint on stopping a fast-paced offense has been written. Want a free time out? Need time to reset and get your players in position? Not sure what play to call and need a few more seconds to figure it out? Fake an injury, get a free time out.

The NFL seriously needs to look at this exploit and make some changes to the rules.

    Said this at the time.

Bart Scott (#4) was laughing on the sidelines after.

Every time we started to move, a Jets player would roll around on the floor.

You would have thought Scott had broke his leg, but 2 plays later he was knocking Brady down.
