With the additions at CB this offseason I find it hard to believe that unless the Pats get multiple first round picks via trade and pick higher up,a CB will not be thier first selection...unlikely at least and besides that I doubt Jenkins will still be on the board at #23

If he's still on the board at #23 and the top OLB/DE and Maualuga are off the Board I would be happy with us drafting him. I hope his speed isnt a concern because I still think he could be a lock-down corner. If not than FS it is and we move Merriweather to SS

DJ Moore is expected to be high up on the Pats list and he could last till early round 2 - Sean Smith is a possibility as well in the 2nd round if he is still available, but I see Jenkins gone by the 15th pick and CB probably will be some focus in rounds 2 or 3 IMO

Yeah, I was confused when I first read this today. But would welcome him with open arms if somehow he were still available. But then again, I'd wonder why he was still available, and be somewhat leery:)

Lack of straight-line speed could drop him, but he's been a starting corner for the Buckeyes for three years, and almost unbeatable the last two. The man can cover, and he can play CB in the NFL. If all other options are gone at #23 and he's there, it looks like DB play goes from weakness to strength this year.

I just cant imagine Jenkins being available @ 23. There's just no way. I've watched him play quite a bit and despite the shakey timed speed, he plays with exceptional game speed...which is what really matters. This kid can play.

The reason Ty Law fell to the Pats at the end or Round one, was also "shakey speed", FWIW.

I think he will definitely fall from the top 10. It's just a matter of how far. I think the Saints @ 14 would be a likely destination.

True. I wouldn't let 1/10 of a second get in the way of drafting Jenkins.

Perhaps the Pats are attempting to help drive up his value, especially for teams who might compete with the Pats for players they like

That's an interesting point. I keep thinking that Malcolm Jenkins doesn't fit the tradition Pats CB profile, but his game is quite reminiscent of Ty Law's, and Law was undoubtedly the best CB we've had in the past decade.

I think the Pat's interest is legitimate, and that they are doing diligence to look at all top prospects who could potentially fall to the 23 range. I don't see CB as a likely target that high given our FA acquisitions, but if Jenkins stood out then he would certainly be worth consideration there.

I would be very happy if we got Jenkins. He reminds me a lot of Antrel Rolle in that he is versatile. If the Cardinals ran a defense like ours, Rolle might be a corner still.

Thats a very good comparison. I actually think Jenkins may have even better cover skills. I have him ranked as the clear cut #1 CB in this draft.

If he is the best available player, you take him. None of their CB's are a sure thing.

What is the consensus here if Vontae Davis is available at 23? He very well may be, as he may have been overlooked a little at Illinois. I know he and Jenkins weren't too far apart at one point, some considered them 1-2 in the Big Ten. There are a lot of good corners, and I wouldn't be surprised if we grabbed one--maybe 2a or 2b. I absolutely love DJ Moore too, as he's been discussed to the fullest

I know we improved the position thru free agency, but I feel there's a good chance Hobbs will be gone for bigger money next yr. I know we have some depth now but there are still question marks with the other guys. I know some would disagree, but I am expecting a CB somewhere in the first 4 picks. Just too many good ones this yr, and we still need a #1 or maybe even #2 (depending on what happens with Springs, Bodden, and the sophomores) to go into the future with. At least it will vastly improve depth and competition. Just don't see anyway we give Ellis what he'll desire, or more realistically, what some other teams would give him. I estimate that to be somewhere in the 7-8 million dollar range per yr.

(FWIW--I'd pass on V.Davis at 23 but take him at 34)

I wouldn't touch Davis with your pole, the talent is there, but I don't trust what's between his ears.

I agree. Plus he's inconsistent, not something BB likes in a 1st round player.

I agree. This would probably fall into the most disappointing pick thread if we got Vontae Davis. I do like Jenkins a lot and wouldn't blame them one bit for grabbing him with 23 if he was there.

The question is whether Jenkins is Top-15 or Top-20 or Top-25 talent, not solely whether they'd draft him at 23.

The Pats are easily in striking distance of a top-15 pick, by trading the last of the 2nd rounders.

We all agree that 11 draftees will not make this roster. Something like 7 or 8 rookie draft picks and 4 or 5 UDFAs sounds about right.

It's not like BB to spend a pick on a guy that is camp fodder. You can get that in free agency. He will trade up and down to get the specific players he wants. Question is whether this is a guy that he wants to coach for the next 5 years. It's like a job interview.
