4/5/2006 Note by Pats1: Don't mind this thread, I'm just getting some stuff from 2005 online.

First Offensive series - JaxO1

Kickoff: Hobbs at the 10, 18 yd return, good blocking - no one got past the 28, but Jax kept any lanes from opening.

1st and 10 NE 28: 4 wide, Play Action Pass to Faulk underneath 6 yds, double-teams on RDE and LDT. Neal was thrown down by Stroud, Neal grabbed his ankle to trip him and keep Tommy from getting creamed. Jax came out in a 4-2 nickel. 10 yd penalty holding.

1st and 20 NE 18: Shotgun, Faulk in motion to make it 5 wide, Stroud came across causing Neal to jump - Neal needs to settle down, that could have been called on him too. 5 yd penalty encroachment.

1st and 15 NE 23: Shotgun, Faulk in motion to make it 5 wide, Tommy beaned the Umpire trying to hit Watson on a square-in - he had a step on the LB. Hochstein had a nice pancake on Stroud when he tried to slip by him.

2nd and 15 NE 23: No-Huddle, 3 wide TE left, Faulk offset right. Tommy may have thrown this away since the coverage was closing down, the pass was high - aimed at Watson in the cover-2 seam (like the pass to Givens on the first Tampa drive). Neal had a nice pancake on Stroud. Mankins and Hochstein doubled Henderson.

3rd and 15 NE 23: 4 wide. Tommy stepped up in the pocket to avoid the DE pincer then scrambled with an open field in front of him - he missed seeing Watson wide open on the right side line, 7 yds.

4th and 8 NE 30: Miller 46 yd punt, Jax 9 yd return, Paxton slammed returner down.

Analysis: NE spread the field and Jax countered with the nickel package. Good coverage, Tommy only found underneath routes open. Nerves affected Neal and Jax’s Stroud.

First Defensive series - JaxD2

1st and 10 Jax 33: 2 wide left TE right I formation - slot (Wilford) in motion to line up behind LG facing left. Run Taylor 1 yd right side. Beisel took on the RG in the hole and ate up the FB who double-teamed him to try and open the hole; Wilfork was double-teamed by the C/LG - Vrabel helped Vince split the double-team to hit the RB head on; Colvin 'goosed' Wilford and sent him on his face when he bent sideways in front of him - presumably to cut block, but it looked like he was picking dandelions - hilarious.

2nd and 9 Jax 34: 2 wide TE right I formation, 1 step drop-quick pass to left WR. Hobbs had dropped back 8 yds before the snap, but read it and was quickly up to make the tackle for no gain.

3rd and 9 Jax 34: Shotgun, 4 wide, 3 right, RB offset left. Pass incomplete on crossing pattern underneath - Asante had good coverage aand Leftwich threw it a step too far. NE 4-2 nickel, tight coverage at line - no jamming. Willie did a nice job of driving the RT into the RB who was trying to duck across the pocket to release into the right flat .

4th and 9 jax 34: 44 yd bouncing punt, Dwight picked it up and stepped out of bounds to save a couple yards.

JaxO3

1st and 10 NE 22: 3 wide 2 right TE right. Play-action pass to Faulk 12 yds. Watson stayed in to double RDE and keep him from getting downfield so there was a clear throwing lane to the right flat. Mankins did a sweet job, first double-teaming Henderson with Hochstein, then releasing him to Russ to help Kaczur who was getting beaten inside by the LDE.

1st and 10 NE 34: No-huddle, 3 wide 2 left TE left. Faulk stretch play left 19 yds. Beautiful blocking - Watson road the LDE laterally left freeing Kaczur to take out the SS; Mankins handled Henderson; Neal cut the RLB coming on a run blitz; Hochstein sealed the LLB who slid too far right; Troy blocked the nickelback and Givens the LCB.

1st and 10 Jax 47: No-huddle, 3 wide 2 right TE flanked left. Watson, screen left, loss of 3 yds. Henderson read the screen and Neal was unable to get an angle to block him cleanly.

2nd and 13 @ 50: No-huddle, 3 wide 2 right TE right, P.Pass offset left. Henderson walked Mankins back and batted down the pass - Tommy had time, just didn’t get a clear throwing lane to hit Patrick underneath - looked like he might have forgotten how tall a 6-7†DT could make himself.

3rd and 13 @ 50: Shotgun, 3 wide 2 right TE left, pass Branch 20 yds. Deion found a gap in the zone in the middle of the field. Great pocket.

1st and 10 Jax 30: No-huddle, 4 wide, 3 right. Brady rolled to his left to avoid the rush and missed high to Deion on a sideline comeback. Kaczur took the LDE inside and across the pocket, Mankins again came off a double-team to help when Nick was beaten after he got the man to the right side of the pocket, Logan was able to cut him as he turned to pursue Tommy’s rollout. Penalty, Illegal contact, 5 yds, auto 1st down.

1st and 10 Jax 25: 3 wide 2 right TE left. Run, Faulk right side 1 yd. Good blocking opened a hole, Neal got upfield to get a piece of the MLB - who threw him off but would have been too late for the tackle; The FS made a good read and came up fast to make the tackle.

2nd and 9 Jax 24: No-huddle, Shotgun, 4 wide 3 left, Faulk in motion right for 5 wide. Gorin was beaten inside by the RDE who knocked Neal off the RDT and flushed Tommy outside, the RDT ran him down for the sack, loss of 4 yds. Mankins was very naughty and tried to push Henderson to make him trip over Hochstein who had fallen down when Neal was knocked off their double-team, Henderson could be seen trying to get the Umpire to call a chop-block. Jax was in a 4-1 dime, they had stayed in the nickel up to then.

3rd and 13 Jax 28: No-huddle, 3 wide 2 left TE left - Jax calls TO.

3rd and 13 Jax 28: Shotgun, 3 wide 2 left TE right - Jax 3-3 nickel, blitz look RLB/Nickelback, rushed 3 - Watson dropped the pass inside the 5 - Tommy was high but it was catchable; nearly intercepted, Deion made a nice play tackling the DB at the 6.

4th and 13 Jax 28: FG formation - Vinatieri pooch punt 24 yds, Paxton made a nice direct snap and then raced down to tip the ball before it went into the end zone - downed by Graham. (Mruczkiowski led a horde of big men in a Keystone Cops pileup trying to down the ball and nearly knocking it into the end zone before Graham swooped in with the good hands.) Ball downed on the Jax 4.

More to follow.

I'm in the process of quickly converting this to the regular format and putting it in the .htm file. I'm adding series headers and all that jazz.

The 3rd quarter is almost done on my end.

Knock yourself out you glutton for punishment! :p

I didn't feel like writing up each player unless they stood out in some fashion, folks pretty much have a handle on what the guys are doing from our earlier work.

I, for one, really appreciate these reads. Great stuff.

JaxD4

1st and 10 Jax 4: 3 wide 2 left TE right. Jones right side, bounced it outside for 4 yds. Warren shoved the RT into the RB, then was taken down with a judo throw to keep him from making the tackle for no gain - the Umpire was probably screened from the play, the Ref must have been checking his horoscope. Beisel pursued well for the tackle with Rosie coming on backside pursuit to pile on for fun.

2nd and 6 Jax 8: 2 wide, I formation, TE right-motion to behind LG. Taylor left side 3 yds. Wilfork was pushed back by the C, but kept this feet and kept pushing to clog things up. Beisel was stood up briefly by the TE, then threw him down and helped clog things for Sey to make the tackle. Everybody on the front seven was minding their gaps and clogging the middle.

3rd and 3 Jax 11: Shotgun, 4 wide trips left. Pass to Taylor on a swing route, 2 yds. D in a 4-1 dime with Vrabes at MLB - he read Leftwich’s eyes and hustled out to cover, got juked, but made the one handed ankle tackle to keep him from the first down.

4th and 1 Jax 13: 30 yd punt out at the Jax 43.

Mike, you want to grab them here or should I e-mail them to you?

No need. I got them here. They're all in the file now - keep hittin' me up!

JaxO5

1st and 10 Jax 43: 3 wide 2 right TE left. Run Dillon up the middle 5 yds. Mankins slowed up Henderson for Kaczur to get inside him, then got the LLB and screened out the MLB whom Cory faked into playing too far left before cutting back behind Mankins’ block. Good push up the middle against those two DTs. Jax 4-2 nickel.

2nd and 5 Jax 38: 3 wide, 2 right TE left. Pitch left to Dillon, no gain. Watson came in motion from wide right to wham block the RDE, pancaking him and freeing Gorin to lead the sweep. Givens was in the slot and got confused when Mathis came inside following Watson - D-Giv hit Mathis, then released him to block the RLB (presumably his original target), he got a good block on the LB, but Mathis was able to stretch the play out allowing the LB to fight off D-Giv’s block and make the tackle. If David had held his block on Mathis and left the RLB for Gorin, Cory should have been able to get the corner and make positive yards if not a first down. Jax 4-3.

3rd and 5 Jax 38: Shotgun, 3 wide 2 left TE right. Pass Watson, square out, 8 yds. Tommy had a great pocket. Watson was covered by a LB and did a nice job of fighting though the jam and screening the defender with his body to give Tommy a target. Jax 4-2 nickel.

1st and 10 Jax 30: 3 wide 2 left TE right. Run Dillon right side 1 yd. Mankins tripped over Hochstein’s feet while pulling to lead Dillon, this closed Cory’s hole and threw the timing all off, Jax was able to close everything down. Jax 4-3.

2nd and 9 Jax 29: 3 wide 2 left TE right RB offset left. Tommy was forced up in the pocket by the LDE (whom Kaczur rode past him and out of the play), he got nervous and scrambled for two yds sliding down - he had time and protection unless he saw something downfield the camera didn't show. Jax 4-2 nickel.

3rd and 7 Jax 27: Shotgun, 4 wide 3 right RB offset left. Tommy scrambled and was sacked at the sideline, 3 yd loss. The pocket held for a 5 Mississippi count before the blitzing LLB fought through Faulk’s block all the way around behind the pocket and got a hand on Tommy while he was falling (Kevin had his jersey and slung him down, the Ref was checking his horoscope for NE this time) - Tommy 'c'ocked his arm twice and pulled it back down during that count. Great coverage downfield. Tommy missed Faulk slide out to the left to give him a dump off target and scrambled out to the right instead, looking downfield and running for the sideline. Really good blocking by the line during the scramble. Jax 4-2 nickel.

4th and 10 Jax 30: Shotgun, 3 wide 2 left TE right RB offset left. NE TO.

4th and 10 Jax 30: Shotgun, 3 wide 2 left TE flanked left RB offset right. Tommy wasn’t ready for the snap - miscommunication between him and Hochstein. He picked up the ball and scrambled left, his arm was hit as he tried to throw. Jax 4-2 nickel - both LBs showed blitz and came, the movement up front may have affected the communication and timing between Tommy and Russ. Still good protection for Tommy to recover the ball and look downfield, he had a 4 Mississippi count before he started to the left and was hit at the 5 count.

Ball over on downs to Jax at Jax 30.

Analysis: Cory Dillon is forcing the Jags to switch back and forth on running and passing downs from the 4-3 base defense to a nickel package. Judging from what they were doing, it looks like they game-planned for Dillon, and were thrown off by Faulk starting the game.

JaxD6

1st and 10 Jax 30: 2 wide, TE left, flanker left. Snap dribbled through Leftwich’s legs, covered at the Jax 22 by the RB - Beisel touched him down and just missed beating him to the ball - good reaction. End zone replay showed the C fumbled the snap.

2nd and 18 Jax 22: Shotgun, 4 wide 3 right. Pass, Jones, incomplete. NE stayed in the 3-4, but was aggressive in moving around - Vrabel showed blitz then dropped in coverage while Monty blitzed, coming unblocked to hit Leftwich as he released and causing the ball to fall short when Byron couldn’t step into the throw. Penalty, Jax, delay of game, 5 yds.

This was horrible officiating, allowing the play to go forward and the QB to get hit on a dead ball penalty - if they do it to Byron they’ll do it to Tommy. I’ve already noted a holding non-call on each team in the last two series, obvious stuff like jerseys getting all stretched out and defenders pulled down. Yellow card for the officials. (A soccer thing for those scratching their heads.)

2nd and 23 Jax 17: Shotgun, 4 wide, RB flanked left. Pass, Jones right flat, 8 yds - Willie in coverage. NE was in a 3-2 dime, with Monty at MLB and Willie playing up over the slot.

End of 1st Qtr.

3rd and 15 Jax 25: Shotgun, 4 wide 3 left RB offset right. Leftwich sacked by Willie, loss of 7 yds. NE brought Green in and went with a heavyweight 4 DL front with Vrabes, Colvin, and Willie at LB. Willie blitzed off the edge for a five man rush, Leftwich went down at 5 Mississippi - coverage sack - Willie was cut by the RB, and got up to make the tackle after the Leftwich had to pull the balll down. Wilfork got faked out by Leftwich’s pump fake, penetrating and splitting a double-team, then stopping like the play was over. Pepper is going to have words with that young man.

Analysis: The Pats put a run stuffing line in, that was still capable of getting a strong pass rush with Sey and Jarvis, plus a blitzing LB. Leftwich still had good protection.

4th and 22 Jax 18: 46 yd punt, Dwight 27 yd return. Good blocking, Poteat, Stone, Don Davis, Troy, Izzo all could be seen creating the lane.

Excellent, excellent job. Wish I could help, still completely buried in work.

No worries, get your work cleared up by August and we'll get it formalized again.

You have seen that we have a Colts' fan who gave us the thumbs up and was checking out the Denver game for signs of what to expect in this go-round? We're absolutelivly famous! :D

JaxO7

1st and 10 Jax 37: 2 wide TE left, FB offset right, motion - TE to flanker right. Ashworth is in at LT - Watson is at FB. Pass, Givens, incomplete. Jax 4-3.

2nd and 10 Jax 37: 3 wide 2 right TE flanked right. Run, Dillon, left side, 4 yds. Mankins chipped Henderson, before going up and blocking the LLB, and Ashworth drove Henderson back 3 yds before tripping over the LDE as Watson drove him back. Givens sealed the safety inside. The entire line had good push, but the left side dominated. Dillon started to the right before bouncing it to the left to run behind Givens’ block. Cory seems to have decent straight-line speed, it was when he made the cut to bounce outside that he looked like he was running in molasses and never got up to speed before he was tackled by the CB - I think it is the injury(s) hampering him and not an age factor. Jax 4-2 nickel.

3rd and 6 Jax 33: 3 wide 2 right TE right. Run, Faulk, left side, 18 yds. Beautiful blocking - Ashworth drove the LLB who was up on the line laterally left; Mankins allowed the LDE to penetrate outside and took him out and downfield; Hochstein and Neal both got in front of Henderson sealing him inside, then Hoch released and got a piece of the MLB; Branch ran the CB off upfield where the CB was run over by his fellow defenders chasing Faulk. Gorin missed his cut block on the RDT, but Faulk ran away from him. Jax 4-2 nickel.

1st and 10 Jax 15: 4 wide 3 right. Pass, Troy, incomplete - thrown away with the RDE in Tommy’s face - still, Tommy threw at 4 Mississippi, so coverage was good for Jax again. Jax 4-2 nickel.

2nd and 10 Jax 15: Bad production ABC. Dillon right side for 4 yds, good bulldozing by the line. Cory hit the hole fast and with power, no cutting.

3rd and 6 Jax 11: No-huddle, aborted, another official snafu stopping the clock and allowing Jax to get their change of personnel.

3rd and 6 Jax 11: 3 wide 2 left TE flanked left. Pass, Troy, TD. Mankins did a nice job of staying home to meet Stroud stunting around from the right and standing him up. Good protection - Tommy and Troy did a nice step and fetch with Troy changing direction off Tommy’s pump fake to get open while the defenders froze - Troy only moved two steps and BINGO!

AV: Extra Point.

Kickoff: Taken at the 6, 21 yd return. Don Davis slammed into a TE and fought off the block to make the tackle.

1st and 10 Jax 27: WR right 2 TE left FB offset right. Play-action, sacked by Colvin, loss of 3. Madden shows Colvin being double-teamed, then both release him.

2nd and 13 Jax 24: WR left 2 TE right FB offset left. Play-action pass, Wilford, 14 yds. Leftwich had plenty of time as the play-action slowed the rush, Wilford still had to go to the ground to dig this pass out of the dirt. Wilford found a hole in the zone between Vrabes, Hobbs, and Colvin.

1st and 10 Jax 38: 2 wide TE right-motion to left, FB offset right-motion to I formation. Run, Taylor up middle, 4 yds. The RG pulled left to lead into the hole with the C sliding right to seal Warren outside; Wilfork stood up the LG clogging the middle and Sey beat the TE inside - the RG tried to hit Sey and knocked the devil out of his TE; Colvin came down the line and was blocked by the FB - forcing Taylor to stay inside; Vrabel followed the RG’s pull and was out of position opening up a hole between the LG and the C for Taylor - Ty and Vince fought off their blocks and each grabbed a leg as Taylor came through, in great danger of becoming a wishbone.

2nd and 6 Jax 42: Shotgun, 4 wide 3 left. Delay of game, 5 yds.

2nd and 11 Jax 37: Shotgun, 4 wide. Pass, Jimmy Smith, 19 yds. NE was in a 4-3 with Rosie at DE and Sey sliding inside. Vrabes blitzed from LLB and Willie from RLB. Beisel dropped in coverage from MLB. Smith slid into the zone seam on the sideline. Geno made the tackle.

1st and 10 NE 44: Shotgun, 4 wide. Run, Pearman, left side, 6 yds - Geno, forced fumble, Seymour recovered. NE was in the standard 4-2 nickel with Troy at nickelback - he had a nice jam on the left slot receiver and was part of why Pearman had to run sideways.

JaxO9

1st and 10 NE 40: 4 wide - slot right motion to trips left. Sweep left, Dillon, 6 yds. Penalty, Kaczur, holding, 10 yds. The LDE got good penetration on a pass rush and found himself in the middle of a sweep - Nick must have grabbed him, but I couldn’t see from that angle. Jax 4-2 nickel.

1st and 20 NE 30: 3 wide 2 left TE right. Run, Faulk, up the middle 2 yds. Gorin was beaten by the RDT. Jax, 4-2 nickel.

Midway through the second quarter, Neal has settled down and is blocking well, Gorin is the one having the most trouble with his blocks now.

2nd and 18 NE 32: Shotgun, 3 wide left, TE right. Screen right, Faulk, 5 yds. Kevin was run down from behind by a LB. Jax was in a 3-2 dime and blitzed a CB and LB to create an overload on the left. Mankins dropped back to pick up the CB while Kaczur stood up the LDE - you can see the LT in Logan by how well he moved getting back and out to pick up the blitz.

3rd and 13 NE 37: Shotgun, 3 wide 2 left TE right. Pass, Givens on a seam route, incomplete - overthrown, D-Giv might have had a play on the ball had Tommy thrown it short. Faulk had a nice pick-up on the blitzing CB. Jax was in a 3-3 nickel with lots of movement, they tried to overload the left side again and got nowhere.

4th and 13 NE 37: Miller 37 yd punt, no return. Matt Chatham was there to turn the KR back inside where Andre Davis brought him down.

JaxD10

1st and 10 Jax 26: Shotgun, 3 wide 2 left TE right. Screen right, Taylor, loss of 1 yd. Wilfork, Warren, and Colvin were rushing and all felt the screen and converged on Taylor who ducked under Wilfork and Warren’s arms, to be pounced on by Rosie.

2nd and 11 Jax 25: Shotgun, 3 wide 2 left TE flanker left. Pass, Smith, comeback to the sideline against Asante, 11 yds. Generous spot, 1st down.

1st and 10 Jax 36: 2 wide TE right FB offset right. Pass, Wilford, sideline out, 17 yds. Leftwich was pressured and got a good throw off stepping up in the pocket - Willie was inches away from a strip sack. In the seam between Asante and Hawkins.

1st and 10 NE 47: Shotgun, 3 wide, 2 right, TE left. Run, Taylor, left side, 7 yds. NE was in a 4-2 nickel with Sey and Vince inside, Willie and Rosie DEs, Vrabel and Chad LBs. The RG pulled left and Vince tried to go in his hole and was sealed outside by the C; Sey was double-teamed and pancaked by the LG/LT; Rosie held the edge against the TE; Vrabel filled the left side hole and went to duck down under the RG’s block - so the G grabbed him and pulled him right over backwards as he stumbled over him - guess the Umpire is still dazed from Tommy’s fastball; Chad took on the LT releasing off Sey and fought him off for a piece of the tackle with Willie who pursued from the backside.

Analysis: Jax has Mangini off balance thinking run and getting pass, and vice versa. Another flagrant tackle on a ‘block’, this crew’s eyeballs must be frozen - at least they seem to be equal opportunity offenders.

2nd and 3 NE 40: Shotgun, 3 wide, 2 right, flanker right. Penalty, false start, LT, 5 yds. NE 4-2 nickel.

2nd and 8 NE 45: Shotgun, 3 wide, 2 left, TE right. Pass, Jones, crossing underneath, 9 yds. Leftwich was under a lot of pressure, bumping into his lineman trying to find a throwing lane. Hobbs pushed him out of bounds, Poteat was chasing him across the field.

1st and 10 NE 36: 2 wide, TE right, FB offset left. Run, Taylor, right side, 1 yd. NE back in the 3-4. Jax used a complex blocking scheme I can’t follow from the camera angle. What I can see is Sey double-teamed; Rosie staying home until the runner committed; Wilfork holding his gaps; and a huge pile-up where Beisel takes on the TE and FB to close the hole; Warren and Willie appear out of the tangle and Rosie joins them all grabbing a piece of Taylor.

2nd and 9 NE 35: Shotgun, 4 wide, 3 right. NE TO

2nd and 9 NE 35: Shotgun, 4 wide, 3 left. Pass, Jones, square in, incomplete. NE 4-1 dime. 5’9†Hobbs knocked the ball away as 6’6†Jones tried to pull it in - Jones asked for a flag, but the Umpire and Side Judge waved it off. NE was in it’s famous 5 CB 1 WR defense.

3rd and 9 NE 35: Shotgun, 4 wide, 3 right. Pass, Wilford, button hook, 11 yds. NE 4-1 dime. Troy had coverage on Wilford, Leftwich again threw it into the dirt for Wilford to dig out - this is starting to look like a designed play to get the 1st down and put the WR on the ground to avoid the hit. Troy was right on top of him, good execution and decent coverage - Troy looked good trying to strip the ball out after Wilford curled up on the ground with the ball.

1st and 10 NE 24: Shotgun, 3 wide, 2 left, TE left. Pass, Smith, quick hitch, incomplete-dropped. Smith was trying to run first or heard footsteps. NE 4-2 nickel with Geno on the line inside Rosie showing blitz - NE rushed 6.

2nd and 10 NE 24: Shotgun, 4 wide, 3 right. Penalty, LT, false start, 5 yds. NE 4-2 nickel - Geno on line inside Willie showing blitz, LBs with lots of movement showing blitz. Colvin got away with one, jumping and getting the LT to pull out - slow motion shows Rosie was taking his first step into the neutral zone before Barnes moved.

2nd and 15 NE 29: Shotgun, 4 wide. Pass, Williams, square out, 11 yds. NE 4-1 dime. Hawkins came up fast and dragged Williams down.

3rd and 4 NE 18: Shotgun, 4 wide. Pass, Wilford, lob in the end zone - missed - incomplete. NE 4-1 dime. Hobbs with good coverage - Madden was singing Hobbs' praises for being positioned right to force the errant throw.

4th and 4 NE 18: 36 yd FG, just scraped inside the right upright.

score: NE 7 Jax 3
