It's easy, and only takes a few moments. There's a huge difference between holding out/asking for a trade in order to get more money while playing on the best team in the league vs. holding out/asking for a trade because you only have a couple years left and want a chance at a Super Bowl ring but you're stuck on a 1 win team.I love how when a Law or Branch or Samuel has a contract situation or holds out, this board is full of posts ripping them and how selfish they are, etc etc.
Jason Taylor is holding out REFUSING TO DO HIS JOB and fans want to 'buy' him by giving up draft picks.
Jason Taylor has never been part of winner. From my perspective Ive never seen him be a leader, and have seen him play a one-dimensional get a sack at all cost style, and last year he was a locker room problem.
Why in the world do we want a guy who is refusing to do his job, and has a history of being a 'leader' on an underacieving team.
If Taylor were here and refused to report to camp, 99% of the posts would be about what an @ss he is, and he needs to be cut.
Very interesting.
Jason Taylor is holding out REFUSING TO DO HIS JOB
It is certainly NOT clear if this is the case or not.
JT apparently told everyone that he would be in camp in 10 days or whenever the "voluntary" stuff is over.
Apparently Dolphins management told him "come right now or do not bother to come at all"
He said "no, not right now"
So they said "well then, you are not welcome to come at all"
So far no statements from him, but the above account is consistent with what Taylor told the press a few days ago.
No way I give a 2nd or a 3rd for that over the hill, dancing chrome dome.
I can understand where you're coming from. If he came here and split reps with either Seymour or Warren (preferably Seymour since he has a history of injuries) then it would be good. No way to do I offer a 2nd or a 3rd for someone who is in his 30's though. A 4th is the most I'd give in this situation. But then again, I'm not a part of the New England coaching staff/personnel.
I'd give a second day for a guy, but the most would be a 4th round draft pick. The reasons, as I stated before, are that we already have two very capable 3-4 DEs. If he came in as a situational guy (as in pass rush) to relieve Seymour than that's fine. I'd gladly give a 4th for him. But a 2nd and/or a 3rd for a guy in his 30's skipping mini-camp to "Dance With the Stars" is not worth it to me. Plus, you can tell he played all out on every play last season if you watch Dolphins games. He was one of the only guys in which the coaching staff credited with going all out on every play. Maybe it was because he was drawing a lot of double teams due to the year before or maybe it's because his skills are eroding. In this case, the latter is more likely.
Good point. However, I think it would be far-fetched to say that Jason completely quit on his team last year.
All this aside. Even if Parcells started shopping Taylor again, there is no way he sends him here. We are the guys he is trying to knock off. He would be doing his franchise a favor by sending him out of the division/conference.

Surely you must be able to realize that.
PLUS (and this is a big plus) Parcells would never ship him to us or any other division rival.
Andy, It's quite simple. Jason plays for another team so when he holds out, I'm happy he's not hurting MY team and the idea that he can come and help our team out is very intriguing.
When a Pats player holds out it hurts the moral and overall balance of our team (whether it cap related or other).
In a nutshell, hurting our team is bad, hurting another team...who cares.
Jason wants a chance to win a ring, how can you fault him for that. He's a great player that is going to use his leverage (the little that he has mind you) to force a trade. I want him to play for us, I don't want him to go to another team that's a contender.
No I dont see a big difference. Its about character. If you are going to assail the character of someone who refuses to adhere to their contract because they feel they want more money, the same is true of someone who has an agenda different than money. Its the same thing F-U unless you give me my way.
Also, you are out of your mind if you dont think that Taylor is going to require a new contract and more money from whatever team he is traded to.
Quite frankly, I have more respect for the guy who is honest and holds out for money. That is about the rest of his life, and the lifestyle he will have for 50+ more years. Taylor is in essence saying get me out of this team because we've been losing and I don't want to put in the effort it would take to turn this team into a winner. Hey, teammates, good luck, but do it without me, I'm going to go somewhere where its easier to win.
I have no respect for the opinion "Those guys are losers, let me go play for a winner" from a guy who has central to the losing efforts they put up. Isn't character about sticking it out and being the reason the team turns it around and wins rather than baliing out?
All well and good, but that doesnt explain assaulting the CHARACTER of the Patriot player (The things said on this forum about Law were equivalent to what people say about criminals, corrusption and politicians) for the same thing then welcoming Taylor with open arms.
I dont want him. Not for free. He is way beyond his prime, he doesnt fit our system, but most of all he is showing a tremendous lack of character. WINNERS don't always win, but they don't run away. If Taylor had the type of character that exists in the Pats lockerroom, he would be in Miami WORKING HARDER THAN EVER to be THE REASON that the franchise turns around. This guy abandoned his teammates to be on dancing with the stars, and now is saying, by extension, his teammates suck so bad, he wants to go to another team. Hello????????????????? He was on the field contributing to all of those losses.
The worst guy to add to a lockerroom is the guy who was supposed to be a leader on a team that consistently underachieved, and especially, when he tries to distance himself from the losing. Taylor can take his 'I wasnt the reason we sucked' attitude wherever he wants, but I will guarantee you he will not end up with a Super Bowl ring. He is a selfish player in a team sport, but even worse, a sport where individual stats create the impression of leadership from guys who totally lack leadership skills. As I said, I wouldnt want him for free.
if Taylor retires can we encourage him out of retirement and sign him? Didnt we do something like that with Seau? Or does Miami still hold his rights after retirement cause he still has a few years on his contract? Im not sure what Seaus contract was.
Does anyone know how it works? That would be sweet if JT retired and he came out to play for us like Seau.
You can argue that winning a ring -which won't happen in Miami for a while - could affect his life for 50+ years as well. Ask Dan Marino.
Why not get out, while he still has a value in the league? He does not want to be a looser, he has a choice and he's making it - I'm sure it was not easy.
He has to retire, sit out a year, file his papers by some date (not sure when that would be) and then he can come back next season.
Same situation Ocho Stinko is in with the Bungles.

Look I see where you are coming from, but it's not like Jason is leaving a team that even REMOTELY has a chance. 1 and 15? I mean that's demoralizing.
He wants out. He has a chance and he's not getting any younger. I want him here, if not screw him he can go dance with whomever he wants.
I make no excuses, I want what's best for our team and screw the rest. Jason would help out. Bill, Tom and the vets would make NE a very nice home for him.
Taylor has been a Dolphin his entire career, and HE IS PART OF the reason he doesnt have a ring. You argue as if he deserves one. He doesnt, he hasnt earned one.
"Getting out" to me is a losers move and shows poor character. You would assume a guy whose life would be affected for 50 years by not getting a ring would put everything he had into winning. Someone with that type of attitude would not abandon his teammates that he busted his @ss alongside to win, he would want to be there to be the reasonthey all win together.
Oh, and as far as Marino, I don't know why you think it will affect his life for 50 years. It certainly wont affect it as much as the money he has compared to not having it, and the idea that 'Marino is incomplete without a ring' is a media creation. Marino doesnt have a ring because he didnt earn one. I dont have one either because I didnt earn one. Id like one just as much as him. I wasn't good enough to play in the NFL, he wasnt good enough to win a ring. Doesnt mean he deserves one any more than I do.
And if you think Marino would trade his millions in the bank for poverty and a ring, you are out of your mind.
