That and JCo quit on the Jets, he wanted out and they were good enough to honor his wish to be released, dumb move on his part.
When your building a franchise designed to maintain excellence now and in the future, it is important to know when to cut players who are at the tail end of there career's, andr are likely not to perform up to the standards of there contracts.
It's a business.
You know your team better than we do Gun. However from a outsiders perspective I'm glad he's gone. Of all the receivers over the last 10 years I always thought Cotchery would fit in best with what we do here. Even during your teams worst years he was always a handful to cover. I recently thought that Brad Smith would take his role once JC retired but that's not the case now. Who is taking his snaps now?
PS I think he was a great pick up for the Steelers.

It looks like Derrick Mason will be taking Cotchery's role, more or less. Not a bad move provided that he doesn't start playing like his age. On the whole though, I dunno how any Jets fan can be thrilled with Braylon and Cotchery becoming Plaxico and Mason. Cotchery was hurt and wanted out, though, so it seems like they made the best of a bad situation.

Cotchery is a Steeler.
