I wish I could enjoy being a Boston fan as well. I am a die hard New England Patriots Fan living here in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. I just don't agree with the Celtics, grew up hating them, I am a die hard Laker fan, and grew up a die hard Dodger fan. I do have respect for the Red Sox, they have an awesome team. LA sucks in that we have NO football team, so Boston is one lucky city in that they have all four sports. GO PATS!

I've grown up in Northern California my whole life, and probably would've ended up a dreadful Raider's fan if it wasn't for my mother marrying a Bostonian lol. Thanks to him my whole childhood I grew up loving Bird, McHale, The Chief. I had the joy of watching a New England Patriots team that at times was an underdog overachiever or just plain bad. Going to A's games and yelling some smack talk at Canseco as the Bosox would take out Oakland.

For all of you guys who live back east and actually get to really absorb the teams you love, I tip my glass to you. You're one group of lucky bastards. :p

You watched McHale, Parish and Bird without becoming a lifelong Celts fan? Damn.

I dont want to derail the OP, but Im a Celtics fan. Not to the extreme that I am a Patriots fan. I can say though that as a kid, when Reggie Lewis passed away, I stopped watching basketball for awhile and Ive just never been able to get into it like I can football.

The Bruins and the Patriots are the only teams I care about. Needless to say, the Bruins' current state has me ecstatic considering the lack of playoffs for the Patriots this season.

Then again, Boston sports fans tend to be massive front-runners. Few people cared about the Patriots until they started winning, and the Bruins used to draw half-capacity crowds until this year when they got good (though they were the most popular team in the city in the 70s).

Except for we few, we happy few.

Not to mention that the center of the article he contacted me about, was the satisfaction of finally having some pay-off after years of let down.

Bingo. The way I felt vindicated for all those terrible years with the Patriots in the early 90s, it's the same way I'm feeling about the Bruins now.

To answer CampPen33, I became a Patriots fan in 1994 when the Raiders and Rams left us here in LA. My brother and I put all the other teams in hat, and I drew the Patriots, he drew the Colts. I am glad that Drew Bledsoe ending up going to the PATS, being that I watch PAC10 football. It has been great being a NE fan, but the best feeling was SB36. Imagine a room of 50 people all wearing RAMS jerseys and I was the only one wearing a NE Jersey. When Proehl scored the game tying TD, I got people yelling and screaming at me, saying RAMS will win in OT. The best moment was when Vinateri hit FG and I was the only one yelling at that point. It was awesome.

Well it's hard to watch anything other than Football over here in terms of American sport but if they start showing MLB/NHL/NBA then i would definetly start following the Boston teams, it just seems natural to me to support teams from the same region (Im a season ticket holder at Wigan Athletic(soccer) and Wigan Warriors (rugby league).

Unfortunately, i doubt i'll get to see much other than Football for the forseeable future. The only channel that showed any Baseball (just a highlights programme) has stopped after it lost pretty much all ad revenue. I do try and follow the goings on of the other Boston teams online but it's pretty hard to get any sort of affiliation without actually watching live games.

As I always say, it was a blast. Literally. I experienced a lot of life lessons during all my deployments, even the ones that weren't to Iraq.:D

The only thing that I can ask of anybody, is to honor anyone who has not been as lucky as I have. I truly have been blessed.
