White House Unbuttons Formal Dress Code

President Obama in a meeting last week in the Oval Office, where his predecessor required a coat and tie at all times.

WASHINGTON — The capital flew into a bit of a tizzy when, on his first full day in the White House, President Obama was photographed in the Oval Office without his suit jacket. There was, however, a logical explanation: Mr. Obama, who hates the cold, had cranked up the thermostat.

“He’s from Hawaii, O.K.?” said Mr. Obama’s senior adviser, David Axelrod, who occupies the small but strategically located office next door to his boss. “He likes it warm. You could grow orchids in there.”

Orchids eh? He likes it warm you say?

The desert...the tundra...but not the White House I guess.

This makes sense.. why wear a sports coat if you do not have to, why wear a long sleeved shirt if you do not have to.. tie..etc.

This has nothing to do with his dress code. He could wear underoos if he wanted to, for all I care. The story about his dress code just happens to unintentionally point to his hypocracy. On the campaign trail, Mr Obama said YOU & I CANNOT keep our heat up high, you know, 72 degrees, cuz we gotta save the planet, and not piss off the world. Yet this guy seems to like to crank up that same thermostat, cuz "he likes it warm". I guess those people, "whether they live in the desert, or the tundra" aren't allowed to "like it warm" too.

Sweet, he's right. Now let's see what happens with respect to increasing energy efficiency on a level large enough that it's worth talking about. That's the game here, not micro usage.

Is thermogate as hypocritical as a guy who claims to hate both political parties yet only ever has specific complaints about one? I think not.

    #87 Jersey

Not being a suit and tie guy myself ... I say take off the tie and relax. There should be a dress down day in the White House. If Obama needs a person to be in charge of it all I nominate Pete Carroll ... Secretary of Attire.

    Here is the official shirt:

It's an idiotic issue in all honesty. I posted it simply to point out how FOS EVERY politician is. The idea that the Messiah is any different than your usual politician is what I'm getting at. I personally couldn;t care less if he brings in space heaters, cranks the temp of that room up to 95*, and sunbaths through the window. That's his perogative. If I want to do that when I go home, guess what, I will. Just don't go telling me, and everyone else, that we can't do that, whether we live in the "desert or the tundra", and then go do it yourself. That's what ALL politicians do, and to the absolute amazement of myself, Obama does that too.
