Is there a reason Collins doesn't try to block every PAT?

Yes because if you touch the opposing player while vaulting over them, it's a penalty.

He tried it this year and nicked a player on the way over him and was flagged.
To be fair he didn't nick the player on that play, he fell over him because he couldn't get the height he needed on the play.

penalty-wise, there's no reason not to try it on every PAT because the downside is so limited--re-try the kick if it's a miss, or a 15-yard penalty on the KO. KOs are almost becoming irrelevant anyway, so the 15-yard penalty isn't much.

The kicking team actually has a third option -- try a 2pt conversion from the 1 (half the distance of the usual 2 yard line spot for a 2pt conversion).

On a related note, why can't Collins do this more often? :D

They need to protect against a fake. The guys behind the line don't usually rush except for end of game situations. Instead they usually drop back in coverage.

Hmm......a fake from 15 yards out with special-teamers would be an interesting strategy in contrast to running your best 2 yard play with your offense.

Clearly I was thinking of FGs but thanks to all that pointed out this was for PATs.
