Last week was just an off game on the coverages.

This week the linemen were being held and tackled.

Why do you think the Patriots are complaining about the refereeing? Why is Vrabel chewing out a ref in the tunnel? They were being held. I've seen this in college football before where an upset is sprung because suddenly the refs put away the flags. You can run for hundreds of yards if you're allowed to tackled the D-linemen and then give crackback blocks to the safeties and CBs. 3 linebackers against 5 offensive lineman? Advantage: offense.

I think they have lost focus. When they have needed to step up, they have. They forced a couple of three and outs late in the game last night to keep the team in it.

that being said, I don't think our D "flies to the ball". You hear that phrase thrown around about some defenses (hard to believe the colts have this now) but I don't feel the pats are that kind of D. During a couple of runs, I noticed the lineman and linebackers "watching" the play after McGahee was past them. I say, don't stop playing even if your not in the play anymore.

The linebackers are growing old before our eyes. The best D we have from here on out is Brady. We had better score a lot more points from here on out. We can't seem to stop the rush at all.

I agree. There was so much holding in this game the Ravens should have
had 200+ yds of penalties. It was so blatant. Both their Offense and
    Defense were holding all game.

patriots run D hasnt been good all yr. We have allowed 80 odd rushing yards per game before the bye but 4.4 ypc. Its just we got up on teams so much that they couldnt run the ball. In close games it gets exposed a bit more.

Rodney Harrison is saving this defense - he continues to step up and make big plays when needed. I also don't know if it was a bad camera angle, but Adalius Thomas seemed to show a real lack of effort on the Ravens's 1st TD pass, and Rodney called him out on it. He waved half-heartedly at it - he could have knocked it down if he got off the ground a few inches.

I think the LB corp is getting old.

Sorry guys but the "linemen are being held and tackled" angle is an excuse. The linemen aren't the ones asked to make the plays, the linebackers are. Bru is just getting run over, AD hasn't shown up in this D as expected, Seymour really hasn't shown anything since his return, I don't hear Warren's name anymore...

This defense is not very good at tackling and this has been a constant problem since the beginning of the year. It's just that the offense has been able to disguise this alot by blowing teams out making the other team one-dimensional and having to throw into the teeth of our biggest playmakers, Rodney and Samuel and best tacklers, Rodney and Sanders.

The D is a concern, especially in the red zone where they rank last.

Don't get me wrong, I think this team is special but the defense could be better, much better.

I'm not an analyst, just a fan that enjoys good football and the past 6 years have been pretty sweet to watch what the Patriots have done. The past two games stick out to me, though, as games where it seemed like the opposing offense could pretty much do whatever they wanted with our D giving up a lot on almost every play.

Did they stop them when it counted last night? For the most part, yep. I have a bad habit of watching the ball/ball carrier instead of the line (i.e. what may cause a big gain could be holding, etc.) so I probably missed a lot. It just seems that Philly and Baltimore marched pretty effectively for most of the game. Feeley and Boller don't exactly come to mind first when thinking of cream-of-the-crop QB's so it kills me to see them look so good (again, for the most part).

Someone on NFLN last night during the post-game said that they're "tired". I hope they rest up fast. There's still more football to be played.

Just bad period. Red zone defense is dead last in the league. Hobbs couldn't
defend my mother-in-law (she's 94). LB's are geriatric. Seymour getting had.
    You name it.

Of course it's an excuse. That's why I mentioned it in the first place. It excuses a lot of what we saw last night. I've watched too much football not to know that tackling the defender gives the offense a huge advantage. Typically, my attitude is that the way to counter this is to have your OL hold and tackle. But then Is aw that Koppen had a holding call that killed our drive.

I went back and fast forwarded to the McGahee running plays. The Ravens were TACKLING the Patriots. You may think the Patriots should exhibit good form in tackling but they are on the ground with 300 pounders laying on top of them. Go back and look at the film. If the DL can't control the gaps, hen Tedy and Seau are not going to get a hand on McGahee.

McGahee was untouched 5 yards downfield on many of those runs.

The Colts probably won't even make it that far.Even if they did I still like our chances at home in the snow.Bring on any team!

The Cowboys are second best in the League...

In the AFC, the Colts are second best...

I was amazed at that red zone D stat. It's quite a 180 from the bend-don't-break D of years' past.

There r a few others on defence to hold this team togeather but it may not be enough to hold the steelers offence... The ravens waz passing on the pats all night and Rothlisberger is ten times better then kyle boller so if patriots r going to hold off the steelers offence they need 2 make arrngements or something!!!!
